Around AI token spending:
When moronic upper management explicitly tells their software weasels that they will be evaluated on their level of AI use and are then surprised that those software weasels max out AI use... Well, I didn't use moronic lightly. IMO, those morons could be replaced by LLMs without much loss of productivity. If any at all. Posted by: Richard Cranium at May 27, 2026 04:49 AM (gtc90) 10

Evening and morning, AoSHQ satellites! A fine Woden's Day, innit, with Paxton defeating Cornyn last night? "I love the smell of John Cornyn's burning office in the morning. It smells like . . . victory."
Or words to that effect. RIP, Robert Duvall. Anyway! I be up, sipping coffee, after tumbling, confused, but not frightening dreams I can't recall. Waiting to see if the seller of my potential new house will accept the offer I sent yesterday. And it's SS payday, which means I have shopping and errands to do. Whatchoo up to? Posted by: JQ at May 27, 2026 *** Big black Stirling, age four, snagged his first mouse a little while ago. I'd seen him staking out the area around my nightstand, and then one night, staring intently at his litter box. I shifted the box -- and a gray mouse shot out and zipped under the bathroom door! I didn't see it again . . . until the next day, when I spotted something on the bedroom floor I thought was one of their toys. Uh, no. I scooped up the little corpse in the dustpan and disposed of it outside. (Oddly, it was gone an hour later.) The mouse did not look even partly mutilated, so Stirling didn't try eating any of it. I give him credit for the kill because he was the one stalking it. Dagny was not there with him. She'll hunt other things, and plays with her toys as if chasing down a kill, but she wasn't in on this. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at May 27, 2026 05:44 AM (wzUl9) 43

Fender introduced the Stratocaster in the mid 1950s and never trademarked or copyrighted the design. Then Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton happened and for the next 60 years the Stratocaster was copied without complaint from Fender. Not a great business move.
To fix this, Fender sued, in a German or an EU court over copyright infringement, some 4th rate Chicom guitar maker that was making spot on perfect Strat copies. The Chicoms never showed up because they are Chicoms thus handing Fender an enforceable default judgment. Genuis! And just like that Fender fired up the copy machine and started sending out cease and desist letters to every guitar maker on the planet that they not only need to quit infringing on Fender's copyright but recall and destroy every offending instruments these companies sold in Europe. It is not clear that there is time limit on how far Fender can look backwards. Remarkably, this is considered controversial by every guitar maker on the planet not named Fender. Fucking Whataburger worm employee just tried to rip me off. Placed order on app as usual. Get to restaurant. Go inside. Fucking slimy worm tells me the system canceled my order and I'll have to reorder.
Fuck you. No fucking way. Already got confirmation from my bank that the order was successfully processed and paid for. Just waiting for my bank to open to dispute the charge. Going to be calling the store owner. And ripping ass on Facebook and Instagram. Posted by: rickb223 at May 27, 2026 07:01 AM (TtKY7) 93

"These Texas races we 60 to 30.
How did the internal polling people not tell Cornyn and Green that they were down 2 to 1." Simple answer is that they believe their own bullshit. They've lied to themselves so much that the lies are now known as the truth and nothing but the truth. Posted by: Will Robinson at May 27, 2026 07:15 AM (zBgIx) 112

One would think that applies here. Except Fender has that BS copyright infringement judgment in the EU; that seems to have a shot at opening the door. Morning, 'rons and 'ronettes. 63 cloudy degrees here at Stately Poppins Manor, with a high of 83 expected. Rain is coming for the next three days, which should drop the temperature to a more manageable level.
Got a scene to write today, which I think is going to take me a couple of hours to get just right. Feeling blue, though not really sad per se. A usual day, I suppose. Posted by: Mary Poppins' Practically Perfect Piercing (aka Eloquent Depression) at May 27, 2026 07:21 AM (qRla/) 118

I think I may have mentioned that I have a family of rabbits living under my shed. Apparently, Mother Rabbit has had children. The other day, my doggehs Luna and Odessa were chasing two little ones, and the poor things were squealing in terror; Luna managed to bite one at least a couple of times before I could get hold of her. I didn't see any bodies, so I am hoping she only nipped in play and didn't fatally wound the baby.
