16 NEWS!!!

Researchers have built a quantum battery prototype that if scaled up to a functional size would only have to be charged every few years in under a minute by lasers that are not in contact with the battery. The EV communists immediately declared fossil fuel engines are so dead and started keying Teslas. It should be noted that the battery prototype is only able to hold a charge for a few billionths of a second which did nothing to tamp proclamations that this is a game changer.

Sing a song of sixpence,
A pocket full of rye,
Four and twenty blackbirds
Baked in a pie.

When the pie was opened
The birds began to sing—
Wasn't that a dainty dish
To set before the king?

The king was in the counting-house
Counting out his money,
The queen was in the parlor
Eating bread and honey,

The maid was in the garden
Hanging out the clothes.
Along came a blackbird
And pecked her on her nose.

51 The illegal aliens being held at Delaney Hall in Newark New Jersey are staging a hunger in labor strike. The illegals are claiming that they have been served beans and salad with worms inside, of being placed in crowded rooms without air conditioning and having their immigration cases ignored by federal judges. Some have been there for a year.

Oh no. Oddly, the illegals never seem to figure out all this could have been avoided by not breaking into the country illegally.

Meanwhile outside, Antifa shock troops are causing a full-blown riot that is being attended by the Governor and other New Jersey politicians. One of them is demanding that Antifa be allowed to inspect all vehicles entering and leaving the facility.

Absolute genius solution. Color me shocked that it hasn't been rolled out nationally.

70 Last night I dreamed about my late red tabby cat Arizona. He and I were living in an apartment not far from where I used to work. For some reason the front window cranked down like that in a car, and at one point when I'd left it down, AZ leaped out and down toward a sort of rocky gutter near the street. I zipped out and scooped him up, but suddenly he was sick: He had lost four of his fourteen pounds, his muzzle was lengthening like a collie dog's, and his head fur was turning blue. Of course he struggled about going into the carrier to the vet -- and Miss Linda had brought over several kittens for some ungodly reason, who had to be evicted from one carrier before I could put AZ in the other.

Then I woke up with Stirling next to me.

Cats. Huh.

Terre Haute, IN, a good piece away from the river. It's a bungalow, small porch, 3BR-1bath, 2-car garage, partly-finished basement, with all the appliances to come with it. All it *appears* to need from me is to have carpet removed from the hardwood floors (though they might need refinishing) and repaint two walls in the dining room. It checks all my boxes, including the price. Property tax is low, Progressive's estimate for insurance is not bad.

We need to see if it has central A/C and gas heat, and of course the inspection will tell me if there are any deeper issues.

Years ago, I vowed never to take on any job that required volunteers showing up. I was chief ring steward for the Houston KC show and got just enough people to cover all the rings. Three days before the show, six people - three of whom I absolutely had to have - told me they couldn't make it.

98 Terre Haute versus Las Cruces. Population density and age roughly the same. The TH household income is about 75% of LC well. The median house value is about 50% less in TH. Crime stats look roughly the same which you're a bit high. My experience here in LC Is most of that occurs in very specific areas which can be easily avoided.

In other words, it's kind of a downscale area that offers potentially great value, gets you out of the swamp and into your own home. What's there not to like? Sounds like a complete upgrade.

101 I had a part in yesterday's local Memorial Day ceremony at the Kansas Veteran's Cemetery.

I was given a carnation along with a few others, and during Roll Call of the veterans buried in the cemetery since last Memorial Day, I walked from the shelter to the American flag pole, and placed my flower circling the flag pole with the other flowers.
I think I was chosen because I wore a ball cap from my second ship.

Democrat Governor Laura Kelly was a no show today. She was listed in advertising the event, but the program did not have her listed.

I was with one of the widows I walk with. We met two recent widows there, and I did my best to comfort them.

Overall, a respectful time, with lots of reflection on fate to go with the ceremonies.

The Army personal I saw looked like fit, focused warriors, so that was good to see. A change from the Biden years.

These downscale towns that are less favored can make for great places to live. Las Cruces sounds kind of similar in a lot of ways and it's proven to be totally livable. The seeker to all the statistics they get everybody's hair on fire is they don't apply uniformly to these downscale towns. The secret is finding that sweet spot where where you can pick off a so solid home in an area that's remarkably not all that down scale.
Hope The virtual walkthrough works out. It's time for you to get on with this project.

Both Intel and AMD have named their cpus many different things over time. For awhile, Intel named their process id for a family of processors after lakes, cities, etc. Intel uses well, Intel for its CPU branding with its different processor levels being something like i3, i5, i7, i9 (which used to indicate the number of cores, but now is mainly a performance guide where higher has more cores for the processor).

AMD replaced the old name of Bulldozer with Zen as their CPU overbranding name (about the same time Lisa Su became CEO of AMD).

And each cpu has its own codename for the mfg process and then a number designator, AMD used famous artists for awhile and now is using descriptors like Granite Ridge family, Kracken Point, etc.

The names are picked so that the tech press and advertising people can distinguish the new hot processors from the old ones from the previous generation of chips. About the same as the car business used to be with different GM models with different trim levels that shared some parts but not others so you could get market differentiation (and a higher price).

It has gotten so bad on naming with market differentiation on processors that you have all these subvariants for niche markets because once the basic logic circuits are created, then you can basically use them like legos to build different processors for different tasks.

I keep up with it somewhat because I build a new computer every three years or so using the latest tech from 2-3 years prior to keep the costs down. AI has buggered up that thoroughly by inverting the better, faster, AND cheaper rule as chips firms join in on the AI goldrush mentality.

Depends on the teachers and curriculum plus students and parents.

Right now, I am not sure that anyone really knows where education as a field is heading because society no longer values education for itself; but rather view it as a credential. And that now carries throughout the k-12 all the way through colleges to the PhD and terminal professional degree level.

And false notions promoted by society on achievements of students and the role of teachers doesn't help.
