Police in Louisiana were called to help round up a mystery emu spotted wandering the city streets. The Duson Police Department said on social media that officers responded Wednesday to help the Lafayette Animal Shelter & Care Center wrangle a loose emu. "Anyone missing an Emu? ID# 118962 found around the 300 block of B Robin in Duson," the shelter wrote on Facebook. "We don't know the sex. It's not housebroken. Someone please call us 337-291-5644 or come by to reclaim -- because our team and the dogs are very confused."
China's Tiangong Space Station is currently occupied by a group of artificial embryos, marking a major step in the quest to understand the ins and outs of reproduction in space. And while none of the embryo-like structures will ever develop into an actual person, the experiment should at least provide us with new insights into the impact of microgravity on early human development.
Previous research has shown that human, pig, and mouse sperm become disoriented in microgravity and are therefore less likely to be able to navigate the reproductive tract. A separate study found that jellyfish who spend their youth - or polyp stage - in space tend to experience vertigo when brought back to Earth, struggling to swim in a coherent manner. On the other hand, mouse sperm that was sent to the ISS has been successfully used to rear healthy pups on Earth, suggesting that exposure to cosmic radiation may not cause harmful levels of DNA damage. Mouse embryos were also seen to develop normally onboard the ISS for a period of four days, eventually becoming blastocysts - collections of cells that later develop into the fetus and placenta.I expect much related frivolity and observational humor in the comments. Establishing permanent human colonies off Earth means gravity different from 1g, and reproducing in it. That is likely going to be a big problem. You can assume there's some tolerance there. We just don't how big that tolerance is.
Ever biological process here has 1g has constant background given. And the evidence is that things just start going awry in something different from than 1g.
The Moon is about 1/6g. Mars is about 0.38g, call it 1/3.

Mexican Mulligan
1 cup of brown rice (before cooking). I use brown rice because I have teh Diabeetus. White okay if you don't.
Good slug of soy sauce (hey, this is a scientific recipe)
Good slug of Worcestershire sauce
1 cup of frozen pepper strips
1.5 pounds hamburger, drained
1 packet Williams chili seasoning (you can use another brand if you wish, and I will explain why you are wrong...heh)
1 can red beans
1 can diced tomatoes
Cook rice. When it's just about done, add the soy sauce, chili seasoning, and Wash-Your-Sister sauce. Stir well.
Cook hamburger separately, OR used canned cooked ground beef (with fat removed) OR canned corned beef. In this case I had a can of cooked ground beef in the emergency stockpile that needed to be used up.
Add meat, beans, and tomatoes.
Simmer for 15-20 minutes at least.
I used some torn-up pieces of whole wheat bread from the last batch I made in lieu of crackers.
Pretty tasty. Way more than one person can eat at a sitting. The rest will go into freezer containers.

So here's what the 2A *actually* says, I guess:
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed, excepting insofar as such infringement is consistent with the Nation’s historical tradition of firearm regulation.

Probably trying to figure out how to get across town without being stuck in traffic. The place had 75K people when I lived there 1976-1979, and some areas were still the boonies. When I gassed up there after Katrina in '05, the former boonies looked like Sunset Boulevard in LA.

These "artificial embryos" are some sort of stem cell thing that grows like embryos, or so they claim.
NASA would not even attempt this. The Chicoms are just doing this because of the international "optics". They would have no qualms at all about using the real thing. Or actually impregnating a woman and putting in her in space to see what happens if they could get away with it.

The patron saint of weapons and firearms is Saint Sebastian. He was a Roman soldier and Christian martyr (died around 288 AD) who was sentenced to be executed by being shot with arrows. This seems to capture perfectly the court's legislative power, which is limited only by previous laws or rulings, regardless of how aberrant or baseless they were. NOT by the constitution itself.
As to all the other considerations, thanks for the commenters talking about them, I am aware of them. They can be summed up under "bad faith, lawless performance of duties" by the courts. Which has reached histrionic almost comical proportions, with the leaks in the abortion case and the gaming/delays of the VRA case.

Yes. As far as archival quality goes, the main difference was that Kodachrome (Process K-14) was dyed during processing, rather than having the dyes put in the separate layers at the factory, as with Ektachrome/Fujichrome/Agfachrome/Process E-6 slide film (and Process C-41 color negative film). This meant that you could use Extreme Badass dyes rather than being limited to the pussboi dyes that would work in a so-called "integral tripack".
Process K-14 was a Rube Goldberg procedure of diffusing a colored dye into the film, then diffusing it back out, carefully rexposing the film to light during processing through colored filters built in to the film stack, and about a million other steps.
You needed trained chemists on staff to run a K-14 line. In practice, only Kodak itself and a few very large independent processors could afford to process it.
E-6 and C-41 could be processed by local labs, or even at home if you were a careful worker.

Yes. A few years ago, I was on a cruise to Alaska that took us up close to a glacier. The blues in the ice were so amazingly intense that I can honestly say I've never seen that color anywhere else. I chose not to take pictures because I knew they would be disappointing later.

It's been amply demonstrated to all of us over the last decade that we have a huge problem in our legal system, largely our judiciary. They routinely ignore black letter law, overstep their authority and ignore precedent. And why not, there is no downside to going yolo. Neither Roberts nor Congress has done squat to stop them and in some cases like FISA just keeps shoveling them money.
That's the next big problem we have on the to do list.

Calif LOWERED the speed limit on some freeway in January.... now the limit switches from 65 to 70 all the time.
Fun Part? by Calif law if the speed limit is 65, Trucks with trailers have a 55 speed limit, but when it is 70, they can drive 70.
Also, by lowering the speed limit, people are on the road more time... thus more congestion... about 7% more which is noticeably.

I have a 500 gallon tank and AmeriGas fills it to 400.
At least AmeriGas has stopped using foreign call centers for customer service. A couple of years ago, I could not get it through their thick heads that my tank was down to 6% and we had a hard freeze coming. I eventually went to the local yard and taped a note on the door telling them we needed propane. 30 minutes later a guy from there called and said they were on their way.

But they used American film! They had captured it from a crashed satellite or spy plane or somesuch. They couldn’t make film as thin as we could, or something like that.
If I remember correctly they took the shots, developed the film on the satellite itself, and then slow scanned the images via radio to the ground.
The earliest US spy satellites did a similar Rube Goldberg kind of thing, the film lacks being ejected by parachute and snatched up by airplanes. It was a big deal once they stopped using film. A lot of times, whatever they were trying to get intelligence on, the information was hopelessly stale or outdated by the time it had been retrieved, developed, and pored over by the spooks.

What's almost amusing though is the weird combo of 1) no real leaks or info from our side about details 2) endless mostly incorrect leaks from various sources 3) instantaneous and sometimes amusing Iranian denials of all the leaked details (most of which cause panic among savvier sorts on our side).
There was a background briefing, finally, a few days ago, which was mildly concerning if taken at face value, which I don't. But the combo above has created a cycle of panic/Iranian repudiation/Trump returning to truculent trash talk that (presumably) calms the panicans. Kind of funny actually. Clothing details had to be perfect. American (and British?) buttons were sewn on with an “X” pattern for example. The European, in parallel. The French would smoke a cigarette down to nothing, and a lot of Euros held their cigarettes differently than Americans, in the first two fingers. Stuff like that would get you arrested.

Home tanks are sized in volume (gallons), so.it's easy to see what's going on. My 300 gallon tank only gets filled to 240 gallons.
The RV tanks are rated in weight, so the 80 % rule in pounds can only be defined at a particular temp, so they actually get filled to 4.6 gallons, which may or may not be 16#, depending on the temperature.

They weren’t stupid when they designed these. There is no reason to fill a 20 pound propane tank with only 15 pounds, or any other fraction, other than to rip off the customer. Which is what they do.

I enjoyed every single country I've visited in the Middle East, but Oman was amazing in a way I can't really explain. I'm not sure I've ever felt such peace.
Israel was my favorite by far, but time stood still in Oman. It could just as easily been 1023 as 2023. Another place wr never spent a dime on food. Strangers either paid for it in restaurants, or invited us into their homes before we set foot in a restaurant, or tbe owners would not take our money...or quit bringing food out.
It is truly tragic that the jihadi/religion has made the culture in the Middle East so violent, because I seriously don't think there are more hospitable, kind people on the planet.

Which is why I take *my* tank to my local propane dealer and have them fill it. It doesn't matter whether it has a bit of propane left in it, the tube under the valve extends down into the tank to the 80% level. When liquid comes out of the relief valve, it's as full as it's supposed to be. Then I pay for the exact amount of propane they just metered out. Those exchange tanks at the hardware or big box store (Blue Rhino, etc) is where you're getting taken. Note that they never actually tell you how much propane you're getting.
Note the the valve and associated tube is tank size specific. Basically the tube under the valve is longer for larger tanks.

I can get just short of 13 days running 24/7, on a catalytic heater set on low, provided it’s a full tank of 20 pounds. This is excellent fuel “mileage”, and I don’t need to run it 24/7 unless it gets truly cold. So it extends out to almost a month.
When they only fill it to 75% of their rated safe capacity, it just fucks up my fuel planning. There’s no reason for it, other than they are fuckheads.

I personally am a big fan of "hot" ceasefires. Most of these have been in the MidEast (surprise!). In the No. 1 is the ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel. Naturally Hezb didn't follow the requirements from the get-go, so naturally the Israelis immediately responded, and continued to respond to Hezb's mostly clumsy attempts in south Lebanon. As in Gaza, Hezb has interwoven their military assets with civilian infrastructure, so some villages now look like Gaza, plus the main town.
Anyway it's been "hot" all the way. Don't have inside story of course but there has been US dipshi**ery along the way. A request to not bring down buildings (this is about Dahiyeh, the southern Beirut suburb, "Hezbollahland". For "PR" reasons. Stupid. Anyway, there've been some targeted hits there in any case.
We haven't attempted to seriously restrain Israeli action and won't. They're not going to live with being attacked daily by these idiots. One more reason Tehran must change management.

I also cannot tell you folks enough about how much everyone in the rest of TX hates liberal freaks from Austin. Hell, they just hate people from Austin in general, even the mid-road types. And Talarico is very-VERY Austin Freak-ish. It oozes out of him. This, by itself = a 10-15 point victory by Paxton. Once the carpet bombing adds showing him, in his own words/voice, speaking about his f-d up "Christian Tranny, Gay, Abortion" doctrine - it might end up being a 20 Point victory. I hope Democrats burn 100M on this guy. It. Will. Not. Work.

Not really. The tank will smell realllly bad, and the carb is fubar, but I've dealt with worse. As long as the carb isn't rotted it can be brought back easy. I just brought a 1951 panhead back to life that sat for 15 years. If it was fuel injection you would be sooo screwed, but the carb would be easy. I would imagine it still has the stock CV carb, and they aren't too bad. Might have a clogged accelerator pump nozzle and jets, but no biggie. When you're ready we can conquer it.
