Memorial Day Cafe

wengenswitzerland.png
Wengen, Switzerland

A big old 1,400 pound pet cow. She's a co-host on The View. (To steal a Greg Gutfeld joke.)

This lamb has a rock and she's proud of it. She's Rock-Proud.

Rescued baby otter was set free, but always returns to greet his rescuer.

Raising prairie dogs.

Puppy can't believe how cute she is.

Adopting a senior dog who'd already been returned twice. Third time's the charm.

This baby already has a crow friend and I'm still putting out bread and danishes and getting disrespected like an idiot.

34 Puppy can't believe how cute she is.

Dogs aren't "smart" enough to know that their reflection is themselves. She's wondering about the other dog in the puddle.

The "mirror test" generally involves putting a mark on an animal (a paint spot, or something) in a location the animal can't see on its own, but could see in a mirror. If they try to examine or remove the mark when they see it in the mirror, they've "passed" the mirror test.

Some species of: dolphins, chimps, gorillas, orangutans, bonobos, horses(!), crows, magpies, elephants, mice(!), and octopi have passed the test.

Dogs and cats have not.

Separating "intelligence" from "instinct" is hard, though, because some ants can also pass the test.....

97 Television programming sucks these days. PC has made much of it impossible to enjoy. But it's been going on for years and will continue. One of the programs I use to watch years ago, Northern Exposure, started out great, I wouldn't miss an episode. It was off beat and funny. I liked the characters. But around the third year they just had to go PC and put a gay couple on because in their minds they were being hip and cool but the new characters brought nothing into the show. Ratings went down. Then they lost the star of the show. Ratings collapsed. A really good TV show gone because they couldn't leave well enough alone. Television broadcast companies don't care about the audience anymore and that's why they suck
