Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Disney Star Wars: Shit or Garbage? The Marblemouth and Gorp opens tonight. The movie was previously tracking at a low $80 million for its three day debut. That's on the level of Soylo: A Soy Wars Soyry (as Ethan Van Sciver called it), which was the first Star Wars movie to lose money. Note this weekend is a four day weekend, but that projection was for the actual Fri-Sat-Sun frame. They estimated that with Monday included, it would make $105 million for the four day weekend. I mean: It's opening tonight so it's a five day "weekend," but the industry pretends that Thursday receipts are really Friday receipts. Which just another lie from the Industry of Lies. But that's been revised. Downwards. Now it's projected to make $80 million... for all four days of the weekend. Maybe $60 million for the three day weekend. Disney doesn't like that headline, so now they're bragging about a $160 million opening weekend. The catch? That $160 million is for the global debut, not the North American debut we always talk about. So this is a big revision downwards which Disney is spinning, incredibly, as double the previous projection. Disney looked around for a shill propaganda outlet that was desperate enough and corrupt enough to print up this corporate lie. Gentlemen, you asked for a miracle. I give you Deadline.'Star Wars: Mandalorian & Grogu' Hopes To Hyper-Space To $160M Global Opening Over Memorial Day Weekend -- Box Office Preview By Anthony D'Alessandro (Chief Corporate Shill)Comparing this opening with the lowest Memorial Day opening ever -- from two years ago. Nice job of bar-lowering!!! That all depends on whether families show up and push the first Star Wars film in seven years to a bigger number. Burger King is a promo partner on the pic, so hopefully Whoppers will have more influence on potential moviegoers than blue milk did for Luke Skywalker nearly a half-century ago.Wow they have a fast-food promotional tie-in? That means it will make a huge amount of money -- No Star Wars film or other corporate IP slop has ever had a Burger King tie-in before!!! In other words, the global debut is juiced because most movies do not open in every country in the same weekend. In some cases, very big countries like Brazil or Japan or China or the UK have openings weeks after the North American debut. But this is opening everywhere, except Korea. The only territory not going this weekend is Korea. That start for the $165M net production would be slightly ahead of the global opening of 2018's Solo: A Star Wars Story in like-for-likes. That box office low point in the franchise -- which went into theaters with a lot of behind-the-scenes melodrama (Lord & Miller were fired and the directing reins handed to Ron Howard -- posted a 4-day over Memorial Day weekend of $103M domestic and another $52M abroad.Even shill critics are panning the movie. It is currently just over "rotten" at Rotten Tomatoes, but the bulk of reviews currently tabulated are from hand-picked shills and influencers. It will be Rotten within hours. Most are complaining that it's "meh" or "mid" or a TV episode with a slightly larger budget (but still a cheap, TV look). Those who are sick of masculine action hero and self-declared "Big Bougie Daddy Bitch" Pedro Pascal will be happy to know that he's not really in the movie much, because it's almost always his stunt-doubles in the armor when he has his helmet on. Which is 96% of the time. They're also complaining that it is plainly for children, and by "children," I don't mean 12 year olds. I mean little children. I mean babies. That's not a terrible reposition for the franchise, as it's lost all older fans and all teen fans. Maybe it's best to start over with a New Modern Audience that doesn't know tha Disney Star Wars is a pathetic joke yet. But it's obviously going to result in a low take.. Only babies want to see movies about a baby for babies. And if you want to see a good movie aimed at a younger crowd -- I keep hearing The Sheep Detectives is wonderful. Chris Gore and Allen Ng of Film Threat both praised it, only disagreeing about what audience it's for. Gore thought it was a kid's movie that was also interesting enough for adults, whereas Ng thought it was a good and "worthy" kid's film, but not really one that adults would like.

Unless this movie has Avatar legs (doubtful), it's going to be a major money loser and a very big stain to start Favreau's and Filoni's reign as head of Star Wars. Yeah, Kennedy green lit it, but it's all their baby, all while news floats that Filoni hates Andor, the only thing that everyone seems to like about new Star Wars. Disney made a 2 hour and 12 minute tv season squashed as seperate episodes into a movie...for 6 years olds...who have the attention span of 100 minutes...and don't care for anything but the puppet scenes.
It's apparently a D+ production that folks should wait for D+...or never... Never reward obvious money grabs. This should have been season 4 of Mandalorian, but they couldn't monetize that, so they made it all worse to sell toys...they are sure they will sell toys (so don't buy those either). The original three Star Wars movies were great( ignore the Ewoks, sorry Ace). The next three had some good parts and probably could have been two good movies. The third trilogy bit the big one. Pretty much everything else sucked, though Rogue One was decent.

Some of the much older movies are challenging because of the pacing and/pr the music ( overly dramatic or wacky).
I am enjoying seeing quirky characters that are subtle. Everything now has to be QUIRKY or EDGEY because the audience won’t get it of people in general are so weird they have to exaggerate to stand out? The studios have all decided -- probably accurately -- that online personalities are more relied upon by modern people for information and "takes" on entertainment. They'll watch their favorite "influencer" for whether something is good or not before they even consider any other source.
So they have begun to focus on these people flying them out for special events etc and getting glowing reviews in response. And the old school is really pissed at being thrown aside for a bunch of THOTS and douchebags with a camera and a Youtube channel. And they are getting savage in response. A novelty movie series that should not have continued after the initial trilogy was continued anyway. The rights were a acquired by a massive entertainment conglomerate. That organization was formerly pro-American, at least ostensibly. It was taken over by anti-American dilettantes and communist saboteurs long before that, and acter that had no interest in making a profit, only in manipulating and scolding the audience. Each predictable financial catastrophe was treated as a fluke. The phenomenon has been echoed throughout the economy. No real interest in making a profit, just setting everything on fire. I saw "Sheep Detectives". I liked it, but having had young children, I don't think really young children would be entertained by it. They'd probably be bored half-way in. Older kids who are more familiar with the usual mystery tropes and romance shenanigans will more than likely enjoy it. Adults will do fine if you don't mind a silly comedy. Victory or Death is a riveting and provocative film telling the poignant story of unsung heroes inside the French Revolution. The year is 1793. Amid the tumult of the Revolution, peasants from Vendée rise up to defend themselves against forced conscription, brutal attacks on the Church, and execution of their king. A retired naval officer, Charette de La Contrie, is pulled from his quiet chateau life when a ragtag group of peasants urge him to lead them and champion their cause. The film traces the reluctant leader as he transforms into a charismatic and brilliant strategist, rallying an unconventional army of ordinary men and women to wage a fierce war in defense of their land, faith, and families, against forces determined to crush insurrection Posted by: Patrick From Ohio at May 21, 2026 04:55 PM (ubCxQ) 173

"The Sheep Detectives" is very good.
"Obsession," a $1M horror indie is excellent. Shockingly both are competently made. However, Sheep cost $70M and will probably not make its money back at the B.O. (It'll make it back streaming for sure.) Obsession has already made 25-30x its budget, and about double what Blumhouse paid for it. Starring Crispin Glover. It's not great, but it's fun. Borderline campy at times. Falls apart at the end. Captures about 40% of the sleaze of an actual 1970 film. Posted by: moviegique (buy my books) at May 21, 2026 05:13 PM (/d4WW) 250

There's the whole zero boil-off thing to work out, a way to insulate the cryo propellants enough to prevent boil-off loss. Bezos Blue Moon scheme is working on that as well. Now, with Starship and the Raptors, they use subcooled propellants. Both the LOX and liquid methane are chilled closer to the freezing points rather than at boiling point. That gets more density and efficiency, but means once you fuel it at the pad, you've only got a brief time period before it gets too hot. So, they've got to get some way to keep it cool down pat. Yep, to get antimatter, we'll have to make it, since it ain't exactly in abundant supply (one of the ongoing mysteries of why the Universe favored an excess of matter over antimatter -- we wouldn't be here if they were in equal proportions). And that would take more energy to make it than you'd get from reacting it. Of course the reaction could go much faster. Also, matter-antimatter annihilation makes gamma rays big time, and there ain't any gamma ray mirror. So making thrust from that reaction would be a problem. I was thinking...the easiest way to pile on Hollywood and get them to stop with the cultural messaging in everything they do. Someone needs to do a massively successful parody. I'm not talking some fringe entity like "The Daily Wire" and that half-assed movie they did with the basketball players.
I'm talking a mainline film like they did with "Not Another Teen Movie". Essentially, a film like that if successful, takes all the air out of the balloon, and immediately labels any DEI messaging done by Hollywood going forward as immediately recognized and devalued in the eyes of the viewers. Teen movies were all the rage before "Not Another Teen Movie" came out, and then *splat*, the market disappeared and they had to grab onto another trend. Currently, DEI messaging is a joke in our eyes. It would be interesting to see what happens if it becomes a joke in everyone's eyes. Posted by: Orson at May 21, 2026 05:27 PM (dIske) 312

Something that is actually conceivable for us, although pretty far away is a fusion engine like the Epstein Drive from the Expanse. The physics works. There are a few fusion reactions that produce mostly charged particles as output, rather than with a lot of neutrons on the side. Yu can use powerful EM field to push against, without some ridiculous neutron flux. Here you get crazy high specific impulses (10% c), and that would allow constant 1g thrust trajectories. Due to my recent adventures with a new strain of cholera from the 1800's (not really, but what I named it); I remain tired and goofier than normal (I thought it was Friday, Ace, sorry.Yesterday I was shocked it wasn't Tuesday). I hope this is not permanent.
It will be nothing short of a miracle if I pack well and make the flight on Saturday. I plan a nap on the plane, and am not eating the breakfast they offer as that's the last thing I need to start a trip. I am also behind in productivity. Even more behind than normal procrastination. My husband has said it does not matter so I will do the best I can. It used to be when I went out of town the house was super clean in the event the plane crashed and my MIL had to help clean out our stuff. Now she's dead and I am slacking, but still like to come home to a clean house. Full of woe and the wrong day. Behind in gardening for two weeks. I am currently soaking ranuculus corms and telling you Morons to see what you make of this. It sounds like I am soaking corns on my feet, which I have never had and nor do I soak my feet. It sound kinky, though.
