For you non-coder types out there, GitHub uses a tool called "git". "git" is a version control application; if you modify (say) a document or a group of files, you might want to be able to figure out what you've changed and you might want to be able to go back to a previous version of that document or group of documents.
Software weasels like me use those features every day. The important bit is that "git" is a "distributed version control" system. To work on git repository (a collection of files that's under version control), you "clone" it. In fact, that's the command; "git clone ". That feature makes it difficult for an entity holding your source code to ransom your access to it; every developer in your organization has a clone of the repository, which is a mirror image of the parent, plus whatever local changes you've made. They can, of course, do a version of blackmail; you have secrets you don't want the world to know. Pay us, or the world will know those secrets. Going on my exotic golf vacation next week (after Memorial Day). Just going to Western PA. Visiting the family also. I haven't swung a club yet this year. I may be spending the first couple of days up there at the driving range (if its still open). That region of PA (NW) used to have some fine public golf courses. Now? Mostly gone, like the population.

When an accident happened on the main bridge, you were stuck. I used to leave for work early enough that, if the main bridge was clogged thanks to one idiot running into another idiot, I could divert to the older bridge in the suburbs. An additional twenty-five minutes' commute, but at least I would be moving. The older bridge, which dated to the Thirties, was recently widened and turned into the superhighway it always should have been -- just as the main bridge to downtown was given a second span about forty years ago, only forty years late. Morning, 'rons and 'ronettes. 72 sunny degrees here at Stately Poppins Manor, with a high of 93 predicted. I plan on staying inside with the curtains drawn for as long as I can.
Had my annual physical yesterday. I'm healthy, says my doctor, which always comes as a surprise. He is bumping up my antidepressant dosage and also suggested counseling, though I don't see the use of that - I know what's wrong with me and I know how to fix it, but I simply don't have the will to do it. Why should I pay someone to tell me what I can freely tell myself? I may or may not finish my book draft today. I need to restore some cuts, type up a bridge and then move on to the final chapter. Counselling can be worth it even if they're 100% full of crap, or 100% telling you what you already know. It forces you out of the proverbial rabbit hole. It forces something external on to whatever is plaguing you. You have to go to a place and do a thing with another person, which can act as the impetus you might need to dislodge yourself from whatever path it is that you're on and don't want to be on. If we hairless apes could bootstrap mental health through brute force and willpower alone, we wouldn't even need a phrase that means "mental health". The Chuwi Unibook with a Wildcat CPU for $449 is an interesting alternative to the Macbook Neo.
Even though the Chuwi is a checklist winner on ports the 300 nits screen blows and that wears its welcome out quickly. Neo crushes it here on a part that is used 100% of time. Then there is the track pad. I have fussed around with the Neo track pad and it is a terrific part. If the Chuwi trackpad is on par with the typical Windows plastic fantastic ones, well, they too are pretty miserable. Keyboard? Again Neo's is excellent. Odds on the Chwi again, is on par with the typical meh Windows plastic fantastic ones. What about the case? Fit and finish? Can you get it in multiple colors? What about an equally well priced ecosystem of products that work with the Chuwi? Apple with its mid-priced phone, entry level watch, the basic iPad, some earbuds is a big win here. And lastly, what store can I visit to try and then buy a Chuwi? You can't and that counts. Apple did something remarkable with the Neo: they built an inexpensive laptop that never once feels cheap something the Chuwi will struggle with to match is my guess. The idea of putting your code on a platform you don’t own or control is stupid. And writing a version control script is not that hard. You can use git and not publish to GitHub, GitLab, or anywhere else. I've got git repositories within my own network that I don't share with other people, but DO share between machines in my local network. If you only work on one machine, then you can use RCS, which has been around since the early 1980s. Don't confuse the tool with platforms that make the tool easier to use with other people that you may not know. Even so, you do you. I actually have some stuff on GitHub that I purposefully intended to share with others who wanted to use it. Everyone craves in-group approval at some level. It's hard-wired in us.
Critical Everything Theory created entire microcultures whose only core characteristic is to seek disapproval. Transgress. Pervert. Invert. "Deconstruct". If you would have approval, prepare for disapproval. Now the same biological urge that once made it unthinkable to become a brigand or a murderer is now the very same urge that makes it unthinkable *not* to do so. How could we not go out and murder strangers and then kill ourselves? We're not *that* sort of person. Perish the thought. We're authentic. There's got to be some kind of Holden Caulfield angle to it all, but I never read that book so I wouldn't know. Posted by: Warai-otoko at May 19, 2026 07:02 AM (Ot/FD) 84
Wow. Pelosi did not endorse Scott Weiner for her seat.
Instead Pelosi picked my city supervisor, a union/CCP shill. Totally unexpected. Posted by: San Franpsycho at May 19, 2026 07:03 AM (RIvkX) 85
Las Cruces has a crappy paper, crappy radio stations, and is an afterthought to the El Paso TV stations. After 7 years of being in a MSM desert I have discovered their are many, many upsides.

I used to check the locals only for traffic and crash conditions, and the weather. Now, just the weather.
---- Sitting right here, boss. Posted by: Dozens of weather apps, waiting to be loaded onto your phone at May 19, 2026 *** My phone is used for three things: actual phone calls, texts (mostly to Miss Linda), and calculating my grocery bill before I get to the register. Almost nothing else. Occasionally -- but rarely -- when out I've used it to check something on the 'Net. More often than not I check weather on my laptop at home, though.
