Self-Portrait
Vincent van Gogh

I found this self-portrait to be interesting because of the slightly atypical colors.

Oh, art-related...from Instapundit...

A fascinating art social experiment unfolded on social media this week after someone shared an actual Monet painting as an AI-generated artwork and asked people to explain what makes the “AI image” inferior to a genuine Monet piece. There was no shortage of “sharp-eyed” critics eager to chime in.

It all started after X user @SHL0MS posted the painting and wrote: “I just generated an image in the style of a Monet painting using AI. Please describe, in as much detail as possible, what makes this inferior to a real Monet painting.”

* * * * * * * *

“The fact that it looks like s**t and is s**t,” writes @RDL0013 in a since-deleted reply. “Slop. Doesn’t look anywhere near like a Monet. Looks exactly like somebody trying to replicate style and achieving like 20% of it. Not as vibrant as Monet’s typical choice..

85 Van Gogh scenes usually don't do much for me. The technique is fascinating with the disparate bits of color that seem to conflict but end up merging into a whole. I can't imagine seeing the world like that. Is this just natural to him or did he have to practice the process? Unlike other artists I don't recall hearing about finding a lot of test pieces and early sketches he left behind.

The eyes in this painting are the focus for me. They are by far the most detailed and realistic and revealing. The result may be true to life but it sure isn't a happy picture.

Druj is from Zoroastrianism, it is either a demoness or one of the myriad of minor demons that surround her, depending on the source material. They are identified with flies, and have to do with death and decay.

It’s one of the silliest things about such “cautionary” movies. We don’t arrest people for literally committing worse and worse crimes that are obviously going to lead to murder. We don’t arrest people for posting actual threats to commit murder.

Minority Report could have been a lot funnier—or a lot more dystopian—if Tom Cruise’s troubles were against the background of a world where the subways were unusable because of all of the obvious crimes in which the perpetrator was caught and let go; and if politicians were regularly killed because people who threatened to kill them were allowed to try.

Posted by: Boss Moss at May 18, 2026 10:07 AM (GpPpW)

The problem is not that we are exporting extra oil, the problem is that we don't have sufficient refinery capacity since no one has built a new refinery since 1976 and California is shutting their refineries down.
ALSO because of the Jones Act (which restricts US to US port shipping on non-US built and operated hulls which was put in place to "reduce the cost and facilitate the market for US shipbuilding" and did the opposite) we can't ship from the East coast to the West coast, so they sell the oil and refined fuel overseas.

We had a restriction on exporting crude. It drove the prices up by killing production because it restricted the market and there was not enough capacity to refine here in the US. It will do it again. Until we have more refineries.

Saw the new horror movie "Obsession" this weekend.

Very well done horror movie, shocking in parts but not spectacularly gory (except for one part). Not the date movie of the year.

The story concerns a guy in love with a gal who has him in the friend zone. He wants to tell her how he feels but is too shy, and kind of a weenie.
He buys her a silly "Make a Wish" gift but blows that moment and in a moment in frustration uses it himself to "make her love him more than anyone in the world". His wish comes true...but not in the way he wanted. Yes, this is a Monkey's Paw type story. Hijinks ensue.

It's pretty great. Great Acting. Great Writing, directing, and editing. You will be shocked, creeped-out, and kept on your toes throughout the movie. It's a horror movie so I don't want to oversell it. But, great job to all involved.

My one complaint is that it comes to a great and satisfactory horror ending one minute or so before the actual end before it comes to the actual end. IMHO, they should've stuck with that but the actual ending is fine.

If this sounds like you will like it, you will love it.

Check it out.

Any time the Seattle politicians want to divert public attention from some particularly nasty bit of corruption, they f!oat a dozen stories about volcanoes and how Mt Rainier is overdue. All the local karens go apeshit. Then they test the local volcano warning system, which always fails, and raise taxes to "fix" it.

207 Three Hispanic teens arrested for carrying out ONE DOZEN shootings in Austin over the weekend

https://tinyurl.com/3sm97njv

Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis said a 15-year-old and a 17-year-old were taken into custody after a string of shootings, vehicle thefts and robberies across South and East Austin.

Authorities said the 17-year-old had an active warrant for stealing a firearm from the same store where the 15-year-old allegedly stole another gun Saturday. Investigators believe the suspects stole more than four vehicles during the spree and may have switched vehicles multiple times.
. . . .
Late Sunday night, the Manor Police Department announced a third suspect who fled from a vehicle during a pursuit in Manor had been located and detained. Officials said there is 'no ongoing threat to the public at this time.'

-
During the 12 shootings, four people were injured, one critically.

I'd get used to this. Not every illegal who enters the US has free shit on their mind. Some have political aspirations.

There are already migrants here in the US that are in Congress and their allegiance isn't to America. It's to their "people."

A New York state court judge blocked prosecutors in the murder trial of Luigi Mangione from using some of the evidence from his backpack when he was detained by police in Altoona, Pa.
Mangione is accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in Manhattan.
“The evidence found during the search of the backpack at the McDonald’s must be suppressed, including the magazine, cellphone, passport, wallet and computer chip,” the judge wrote.

The problem is not that we are exporting extra oil, the problem is that we don't have sufficient refinery capacity since no one has built a new refinery since 1976 and California is shutting their refineries down.

___________

Can't say I'm an expert, but building a new refinery - assuming the BANANAs let you - is that it's incredibly capital intensive. I can see expanding and debottlenecking existing capacity but I also see that LyondellBasell's Houston refinery is being demolished for lack of a buyer.

During my 2 hour exclusive interview with Cynthia West
@Cyntaxed007
, she explained in greater detail the sexual things
@RepThomasMassie
asked her to do that she didn’t want to do.

She told me that when they would have sex, Massie asked her to tell him dirty and pornographic stories that included fake scenarios about him meeting up with other married couples and girls as young as 19 and 20 years old. Cynthia recalls telling him the young woman he wanted her to tell made up sexual stories about was in similar age to his daughter, and she declined and refused to indulge his sexual demands because Cynthia felt it was demeaning, gross and inappropriate.

She recounted one instance where Massie told her they were even going to “meet up” with the couple he demanded that she sexualize in stories while they were intimate.

I asked her if she was suggesting Massie was asking her to engage in swinger meet ups, and she said yes.

It is one of the most disturbing things I have ever experienced, by the time you reach the last of them, you have watched the man go insane. The man truly painted what he saw.
