He's constantly arguing the US should spend more on commuter rail but then again he vacations in Europe, south America and the Caribbean so not like he will be taking those train rides...

26 Good Grief! Serendipity --

Sister just sent me links to 'Big Boy' steam engine tour in the midwest. Last time one of the big steam engines came by, major highways were backed up for miles. We were going to use the opportunity for a family party because last time, we were not prepared for the interest.

Painting itself is a little too dark for me, but the fond associations are priceless.

Ninety tons of thunder lighting up the sky

She was a princess of the night
I saw the writing on the wall
She was a princess of the night
I take a ride across the sky

Speeding, sparks like lightning ,engine working hard
Furnace on the foot plate, shining in the night
Iron striking metal, the sound of racing steel
It's all I ever want to hear, it's music to my ears

61 When I was a kid in my hometown, the city had a park called "Mother Goose Land". A bunch of wonderful attractions for us kidlings: A sliding board that was built to resemble a wedge of swiss cheese, an Old Woman that Lived in a Shoe thing that you could crawl around in, Monstro the Whale from Pinocchio again, that you could walk into and many others.

The star attraction though was an old Nickle Plate RR loco with no fencing around. They did weld shut the boiler entrance but everything else was available to you. All the valves and pedals, etc. It was glorious.

It was higher 4 years ago at the start of the Russian war in Ukraine.

And the disruption to worldwide oil supply there was smaller, the US government was less receptive to producing oil to fill the market, and it didn't lead to the region in question fast tracking a series of pipelines to bypass the impass.

The oil market is...weird. The gas market even weirder.

But one thing's for sure: outside of some kind of calamity that destroys oil production in several oil producing regions at once, oil recovers quickly because too many people rely on it and too many people (even hostile actors) rely on its sale.

This ain't the 70s anymore where the clear majority of oil production is in the Middle East.

Demand destruction has started in Africa. Reportedly 5-6 million barrels of oil daily no longer needed.

All while exports ramp up here, and exports find a way in the ME. The disruption to physical oil transportation is honestly overstated. The only major impact is that Iran can't export its 2 million a day, half of which we've already made up for in exports. Otherwise, it's Indian tanker captains afraid of sea mines that don't exist.

The medium term effects are going to be that Iran will have destroyed its ability to threaten the oil lifeline nearby as UAE and Saudi Arabia build more pipelines to bypass the strait and get oil from the Persian Gulf region to places like the Oman Gulf and the Mediterranean.

Goes the elate metre of her wheels.
Steaming through metal landscape on her lines

Where speed throws up strange shapes, broad curves
And parallels clean like the steel of guns.
At last, further than Edinburgh or Rome,
Beyond the crest of the world, she reaches night
Where only a low streamline brightness
Of phosphorus on the tossing hills is white.
Ah, like a comet through flame, she moves entranced
Wrapt in her music no bird song, no, nor bough
Breaking with honey buds, shall ever equal.

It's obvious to me that Trump and the rest of the US leadership expected the world to come to its damn senses about the dangers of Iranian threats. All we've gotten is small arms fire here and there for weeks as well as footage of a small Iranian speedboat boarding a mostly empty cargo vessel.

This was also part and parcel with his effort to strong arm Europe into defending their own waterways that they rely on.

"Fucking fine. We'll do it. Now, shut up." seems to be the order of the day.

Outside of that, it's Indian tankers afraid of phantom sea mines and believing every threat from some asshole with a radio on the Iranian shore.

Meanwhile, the UAE started building a new pipeline about 4 weeks ago to completely bypass the strait, all while roughly 10.5 million barrels of the 20 million that normally went through the strait is getting out through existing pipelines (Saudi Arabia's went from about 500,000 a day to 7 million a day).

All I know is that Democrats were so afraid of losing the midterms that they didn't go maximalist in their policies like opening the borders in order to affect long-term change.

Why can't Republicans govern like Democrats?

They will probably take the House because political gravity.

They won't take the Senate. They'd have to win senate races in several Trump+15 states in addition to pulling Collins out against the literal Nazi and holding onto MI (about to nominate a terrorist sympathizing Muslim) and GA (Ossoff is darkhorse upset territory with the feds focusing on Fulton).

299 A taxpayer-funded Texas waterpark has sparked backlash by organizing a Muslim-only day to celebrate Eid.

Epic Waters in Grand Prairie, Texas drew outrage this week as it released fliers for the June 1 event, which will demand a 'modest dress code' and serve only Halal-slaughtered meat.

Posters for the event say it will be 'for Muslims only' to create a 'family-friendly environment', with tickets starting at $55 each.

The waterpark's website notes that men and women will not be separated during the event, but attendees are told to 'uphold Islamic etiquette' by 'lowering the gaze' throughout the day.

'Please follow the event’s modest dress code, and practice ḥayāʾ (modesty) through respectful behavior,' the event says.

All attendees are 'expected to dress in accordance with Islamic values', and the waterpark says all swimwear must meet Muslim guidelines.

The redistricting in response to Callais will be felt more fully in 2028.

UP, over the past year, has been out here along the route doing surveys on trackage, bridges, curves, etc. They pretty much have all their ducks in a row. I have the O Gauge model running on my basement layout. Even with that, I've had to swap out many curves to a larger radius because of the wide swing. The model has all the sounds of the real Big Boy, including whistle, bell, chuffs and, of course, smoke. It's a monster! Weighs about 10 pounds.

329 I will admit that for one night in 1974 Jaws was, in fact, the greatest movie of all time. You see, my small town had to wait 6 months to get "Jaws" so it became a town social event, you had to be somebody to get a ticket to the first run premier showing at 7:30. I had 2 tickets and the fiery vixen that was Rhonda Fleenor sat next to me. She made it clear beforehand that I was being used for my connections and I was not allowed to touch her in anyway

Oh yeah. I was 12 in 74.

Anyway, glory be unto the heavenly host and all 7 devils that head came out of the bottom of the boat

She shot straight up into the air 4 feet and landed square in my lap

Grabbed me for all she was worth replacing my face with her chest

After the show was over she told me that she detested my presence and never wanted to see me again dead or alive

I didn't care.

Rhonda, if you read this I touched your titties.

The end
