36 The subject of Six O’Clock, Winter—the Third Avenue El (short for “elevated train” at the peak of the evening rush hour—reflects Sloan’s ability to catch the drama in everyday scenes.

The IRT Third Avenue Line, commonly known as the Third Avenue Elevated, Third Avenue El, or Bronx El, was an elevated railway in Manhattan and the Bronx, New York City. Originally operated by the New York Elevated Railway.

Big Govt bought it and closed it down, much like Liawatha closed down Spearit Airlines.

76 Sloan sets a mood and location with color (the sky is especially well done) detailed, realistic backgrounds and objects. The people are comparatively indistinct, interchangeable and, maybe, unimportant. He did the same with "McSorley's Bar". I may not care for the subject of the painting or the urban mindset, but can admire the talent.

He took a job teaching at an art school but informed his students, "I have nothing to teach you that will help you to make a living."

That reminds me of a professor at Berkeley -- he specialized in computational chemistry -- who introduced himself to his Quantum Chemistry class thuswise: "Hello, I am Professor ___. My research interests are systems where the number of particles are less than or equal to one. If systems with more that one particle are of interest to you, then you should enroll in Professor ___'s class."

Now, with this judgment, there was a harsh rebuke of Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson’s dissent, where Justice Alito, in an academic tone, essentially called her a reckless clown who doesn’t understand the law. We’ve seen a similar attitude on the liberal side as well, with Justices Kagan or Sotomayor disagreeing with the majority but avoiding Jackson’s dissents since they usually don’t make much sense.

[T]here was an unspoken baseline that, for the highest court in the land, and really the world, you could appoint ideological opposites, but you did not cheapen the institution by lowering the intellectual bar.
But the autopen removed that baseline, and with it degraded the level of discourse and eroded the professional respect that made those relationships possible in the first place. So for someone who has spent two decades on the Court, that has to be very painful to watch, seeing an institution slide into idiocracy and performative nonsense.

Someone on the X mentioned it is also possible that he is simply reading a script.

It has often been noted that Tucker relied on others to write his scripts for his shows on Fox.

Same as ghostwriters for biographies where they spike the controversy factor for bucks.

A lot of these podcasters rely on 'talent management' companies that do the hard work in packaging the ads, ensuring compliance with various laws, booking guest, etc. where the 'talent' is simply the newsreader on the cast. And curiously enough for people that track them, people using the same management companies tend to swim in the same direction on their podcasts.

The old media manufactured objectivity is now viewed as dead but that trust has simply been put now on podcasters who do the same damn trick.

223 Six O'Clock, Winter
John French Sloan

Like this painting a great deal - it actually reminded me of Chicago quite a few years ago - though I'd pass hanging it unless it was a set (see article below) of Sloan's painting.

>It Might Be Art Organization, The Poetry of Everyday Life: John Sloan’s New York Paintings, April 25, 2023

A lovely article that begins,

"John Sloan is known for his unflinching eye. His New York could be transcendent, full of heartbreaking moments, like the sunset captured in his 1906 painting, “Sunset, West Twenty-Third Street.” Sloan’s New York could also be a dark, hard place.

Some of my favorite Sloan paintings capture those small moments of joy, or pleasure, that creep up on us, moments that overtake us, in an ecstasy that takes us out of our present.

Others, like his painting of the bar at McSorley’s, freeze the flow of ordinary time. Frozen, in paint, the moment becomes monumental. Even the most ordinary moments and gestures, revealed like this, carry a heft, and dignity, that render them both solemn, and sad."

(More followed, reading all suggested.)

A nice art selection for a Tuesday. Thanks.

225 This is a seriously whacked out broad. We covered this yesterday a little bit.

Michigan trial attorney and Democratic fundraiser Kelly Neumann, the co-chairwoman of Senate candidate Mallory McMorrow’s campaign, threatened the Free Beacon with “legal action” unless we retract our story about her Veterans Day Facebook post honoring her grandfather who served “on the German side” in World War II, our Andrew Stiles reports.

The Free Beacon and others reported in January about Neumann’s bizarre Facebook post praising her “Grandfather, Albert Neumann,” who she said was “on the German side in WWI & WWII” and “escaped to Brazil … after Germany lost.” The post included several photos of the man in his Wehrmacht uniform. Neumann recalled that her grandfather was one of the first people to accept her homosexuality, a demonstration that “people can change and love can indeed win.” Heartwarming.

“Last week, the Free Beacon received a letter from Neumann’s attorney demanding a ‘formal retraction’ of the ‘false and defamatory’ statement in the article,” writes Stiles.

The massive culling of voter registrations is also going to leave a mark. The Democrats were reactivating inactive voters on the lists, casting an absentee ballot, and then deactivating them. Which is why the vote tallies never match the actual number of voters. Apparently the Dems have been monkeying around with voter histories and inactive registrations since about 2007.
