"Independence One" was introduced on Monday at Baltimore/Washington Thurgood Marshall International Airport, displaying a massive "1776" across the front cabin windows and "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness" toward the back. "It's a symbol of what it means to give America the freedom to fly," said Bob Jordan, the airline's CEO, to a crowd of attendees. "As Southwest celebrates our 55th year, and (as) our nation celebrates 250, we wanted to mark this moment in a way that reflects who we are, where we've been and where we are headed." Some good photos here from the BWI X account
Here's what the painting job looked like

----- Speed limit strictly enforced! Wisconsin road adds a decimal point to its speed limit. It’s not a joke ![]() A Wisconsin road has added a decimal point to its speed limit — in the hope that the unusual traffic sign will give drivers’ second thoughts about putting the pedal to the metal. The Outagamie County Recycling and Solid Waste facility in Appleton, 107 miles north of Milwaukee, announced Monday that the speed limit inside the facility would now be 17.3 mph. “You may notice something a little different on your next visit,” the facility wrote in a Facebook post. “Our posted speed limit is now 17.3.” The facility, which provides recycling and landfill disposal services, said it decided on a posted speed limit of 17.3 mph because it makes drivers “pause.” “It makes you look twice. And most importantly, it breaks that ‘autopilot’ feeling we can all fall into when driving familiar routes,” the facility added.I don't know about you, but there is just no way I could keep my speed below 18. ----- What's another way to say a moron is full of shit? How about 29 year old man is constipated Josh Vintner-Jackson first felt some discomfort in his lower left hip in March 2020. At the time, Vintner-Jackson, who is from the UK, was 29 and worked at a startup in Austin. He balanced his time between work, hanging out with friends, and his active hobbies. He loved running marathons, including one five-day ultramarathon through the desert in Jordan. Over the next four months, he would occasionally feel a pang of discomfort in the area. By the end of May, he had started to become severely constipated, despite eating what he considered a healthy diet. After not pooping for eight days, he went to urgent care in June 2020, where an X-ray revealed a buildup in his colon.Check out the whole thing. And let this serve as a reminder to get your colonoscopy if you are due! ----- This should have been included in Tuesday's ONT, but someone dropped the ball. The Tuesday ONT host must be asshoe. Aircraft paint shop is more interesting than the paint job.
They were working on a new one (paint shop) and the air relief louvers weren't working during the first building commissioning and the negative air (to vent fumes) sucked in a large partition wall that separated the main bay from other spaces. J.R. Richards turned 59 today. He was the lead singer of Dishwalla from its founding until the band broke up in 2005, after finishing the tour for their eponymous fifth album. (They reformed in 2008 without him, while he went on to a solo career as a singer-songwriter, musician, record producer, actor, and TV and film composer.) They (and he) are best known for "Counting Blue Cars," the "tell me all your thoughts on God" song off their 1995 debut Pet Your Friends; but instead, here's a lesser-known track from the same album, about Dildo's family:

There is not a single speed limit on any road anywhere in the world that is observed.
It largely comes down to the whether your particular non-observance pisses of a particular cop. Posted by: Thomas Bender South Dakota means it. Signs say something like "speed limits strictly enforced." Though their freeways are posted 80mph. I saw a guy get pulled over, and when he passed me earlier, he was probably only doing 82. I had my cruise set right at 80, and it took him a while to pass me. That made me consider braking down hills rather than letting my cruise control go..... it doesn't try to slow the car down until it's 3 or 4 over. There are allowances for paint weight on aircraft. It's part of the mass properties assumption going into the whole design and type cert. But, like I say there are allowances, and you have to be within a +/- tolerance. Things then get tricky for parts that are mass-balanced like control surfaces and horns and stuff. Those things are controlled a bit more strictly often.

Posted by: Berserker-Dragonheads Division at April 30, 2026 10:30 PM (snZF9) Can't be insignificant? Grok says anywhere between 250 - 550lbs Hmmm, woulda thought it would have been more ... Posted by: browndog says woof GROK did the web search and summary for you. Any old web search engine (circa 2000) could do as well. You'd just have to read it yourself. A real answer would be to repeat the query, Throw in some assumptions, say aircraft model, dry paint density, coating system thickness and run some calcs. Maybe calc the surface area of the plane using a 3D model x thickness of coating x density = total weight. Should get it within a few pounds, not some wild ass range from where the high end 'estimate' is more than twice the low end. If the owner really cared they could weigh the plane when it was stripped to bright aluminum and again after paint completed. Posted by: Itinerant Alley Butcher at April 30, 2026 11:10 PM (/lPRQ) 187

One interesting thing about TPS/TPMS on tires, I read about this from something someone posted here:
all sensors communicate with the car. They aren't connected to the car of course, because tires do a spinny spinny thing, so they connect wirelessly. Is it by proximity? No that would never work because there are other car tires just feet from your car's tires. So they obviously have unique codes, that are constantly transmitting, well beyond your car because they would have to already go 10,20,30 feet or more depending on the size of the vehicle and tire configuration. What does that mean? That means every single modern car has a very convenient means of being passively tracked through waypoints by anywhos that happened to want to do that sort of thing. Interesting, no? Posted by: banana Dream at April 30, 2026 11:28 PM (3uBP9) 224

I'm thinking hmmm painting white over the green, then a shitload of blue over the white, and then red over some of the other white. I'm thinking original paint, plus white, plus another almost another entire paint layer with the blue and red. I was thinking damn they probably added 1200 pounds to the thing. Was just reading about the future of commercial air travel. Eventually they will remove all windows from the planes and replace them with wide angle digital cameras which will project an unobstructed real time view on the walls of the cabin to show the exterior. They're already testing out the concept on private Gulfstream 800's. The goal is to show the exterior views right, left and top. I can see where displaying the view underneath would be an issue with some of the less seasoned flyers.
Posted by: Orson at April 30, 2026 11:24 PM (dIske) You are generally still required to have side transparencies for control check. Even in the modern day and even long transport class aircraft. And that's rich for a gulfstream in that one of their big prestige items is their wide oval windows. It's a thing they're known for. Now there was a lot of talk about doing exactly that back a decade or so ago when there were all those SS biz jet startups. But those mostly all went boom. You have an unbroken track record of posting music by bands that I have positively never heard of in my life. It is a gift, use it responsibly!
Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at April 30, 2026 10:42 PM (utfVc) Thank you!..? I do actually watch the videos first, to make sure that the songs are as good as I remember (or as good as their radio hits if delving past those), that the A/V quality isn't messed up, that it isn't secretly a censored radio edit, and that there isn't anything weird in the video. (That last one is pointedly aimed at Hozier's "Take Me To Church." I made the mistake exactly once of linking it (on another site) just based on liking the song, which I thought was a veiled reference to cunnilingus, not knowing that the video is a gay male 'romance'. Guys, we said, don't scare the horses. Ick.) The revelation of unknown bands also goes both ways, so ICYMI here's a very specific performance that someone here recently linked to and now I'm obsessed with it. Posted by: SciVo Yeah, the lyrics aren't gay. It's a guy singing about his lover, and he uses female pronouns for her. I had never looked at the video before. A few seconds was enough, since it is gayer than the Obamas' double-ended dildo. I guess it could be a "trans anthem" today? But it was written in '14, a year before even the Bruce/Caitlyn Jenner thing came out. And the Postmodern Jukebox & Morgan James cover could turn the guys in the original video straight. https://youtu.be/9C0xGB73Uuc Posted by: mikeski at May 01, 2026 12:40 AM (VHUov) 355

Imagine the "final blow" description is not from Adm. Cooper or any serious person, as such people don't assume anything is "final".
April 1945 in Germany was an exception - pretty likely destroying the center of govt. would be the last act. Though even then hold-out actions by German forces in a Bavarian "alpine redoubt" were feared, and the Flensburg govt. continued after Adolf got rid of Adolf. Of course CENTCOM knows a lot more detail than I do, but my preference would be for renewed festivities to *force* the Strait open and safe for passage through destruction of Iran's anti-shipping capability. Forcibly removing their last "card" would not only hedge against fuzzy political outcomes or prolonged regime death-throes, but demo our totally dominant military capability. I think it's quite feasible and know it would materially add to our already robust credibility and deterrent power. Posted by: rhomboid at May 01, 2026 12:55 AM (U/Byj) 364
