Meet The PetMorons

Hello,
My cat Jasmine crossed the Rainbow Bridge on Wednesday, April 29.
She was 13 years old, going on 14.
She first came to my attention when I saw a picture of her on the local animal shelter's website. I was looking for a companion for my first cat Penny and Jasmine's picture just called out to me. I went over to the animal shelter and was able to adopt Jasmine.
It took her a few months to get acclimated to my house. She had a tendency to hide anywhere that was big enough to fit a cat, such as under my recliner and even in the drawers in my TV table. Penny didn't like her much at first, but then they figured things out and soon enough I saw them both sitting in my office chair like boon companions.
For the past 13 years Jasmine has been the perfect little lap kitty, just the right size to fit in my lap, purring contentedly and giving me head bonks to show her affection.
I will miss her dearly, but I was able to be with her until the end.
She passed knowing that she was loved. Jasmine truly was a blessing from the Lord.

Getting the RV loaded for Her Majesty, The Big Dummy and Rosalind to head off for four weeks, leaving on Tuesday.

Roz is going back to her home in California. She's been a good girl while she was here and I'll miss her, but she's someone else's sweetie now and should be with them.

4 Condolences on Jasmine. I'm a sucker for a ticked tabby. My Butch, also known as Butchie-woo, was a huge ticked tabby, and behaved much more like a dog than a cat. He was a very guy cat, with head sorta like a big hamburger. He liked a good snuggle just like Jasmine. He's been gone for eons, but I still miss him. So, empathy. They do wiggle their way into our hearts and stay there.

Oh, I do!

She liked to dig her claws into my lap and I have the scars to prove it. She also had a tendency to throw up a lot, often in inconvenient places or at inconvenient times. The back of my computer is a testament to that.

But we love them flaws and all, because the love they bring us makes it all worthwhile.

11 Jasmine looks like the little mama who brought 4 babies to our house and demanded that we feed them all. Our garage is now a disaster. All four of the babies were male and they and mom are all neutered now.

The feistiest looks like Mom. He plays with the black short hair who is the least human-friendly. There is one black and white medium-hair and a gray and white medium hair. The last two are somewhat calmer. Their fur doesn't seem to tangle so far.

A coworker of my sister's is trying to dump two cats on us with threats of harming them. Apparently these two keep pooping in her flower beds. She said if we don't take them, she will trap them and dump in the middle of nowhere.
My sister tried telling her that she can't just steal someone's cats and do that and that she should talk to the person first. Coworker refuses. I told sis, is this coworker going to help with our cat food bill or vet expenses? We really can't take anymore cats in.

20 My big black tom sleeps sprawled out like that, Pigeonist. I think it is part that he was a 100% indoor cat who never had the concern of other cats messing with him when he was napping, and partially because he is rather fat.

The second bit may be unfair, since my year-old tom kitten also sleeps sprawled out, and he is not yet fat.

23 Pigeonist, my cat Lily also snoozes on her back with her fuzzy belly exposed. It's not ladylike, but it is a measure of her trust that she can sack out in such a vulnerable position.

If she's in a sunbeam, I assume the filaments aid in recharging.

27 Both of my thugs love to have their bellies rubbed. Dagny will twist onto her back when you start to pet her. Stirling loves it too. I'd tell them they are being very un-catlike, but I don't want them to get any more ideas above their station than they already have.

No idea, but we are both angry that two cats may be harmed unless we take them, but then the person who cares for those cats loses them and won't know what happened. I don't want to receive someone's stolen cats.

Cats generally prefer it warm. There is a limit, though. When the power was out and we had no A/C during the hurricane of 2012, big Wolf, the black longhair, slept a lot, and Chekov D. Siberian actually panted from time to time.

35 Farm ferals report. Butterburr the pale yellow male continues to be the most friendly. Likes pets. Rascal the little tortoiseshell mama has finally let MiladyJo pet her, sudden progress. Still skittish, though. Kittens Angel the white with a raccoon tail and Leo the deep yellow-orange with a mane still keep their distance, but let Milady get closer this week, before scurrying off. Sad to say, we haven't seen the stripey kitten for a while.

Also, a skunk seems to have a burrow out in the metal barn. Still working on that one.

39 As far as my two furry thugs: Dagny is neither more nor less aloof, generally, than before my trip. But she often chooses to sleep next to me at night and during my afternoon nap. Sometimes she even trots in when I call her and settles down next to my legs.

Stirling seemed a little put out that I'd been gone so long. For a day. By Wednesday afternoon he was sleeping next to me again, climbing on me a couple of times a day to milk-tread and get head scritches, and in every way behaving as if I'd never been gone.

Jasmine never liked rolling over on her back to expose her belly. Kaylee will roll over, but doesn't like tummy rubs.

43 Joyenz your sister's coworker is doing emotional blackmail. Possibly you and sis can say "take a picture and we'll make you a flyer". "These feral(?) cats keep digging and pooping in my flowerbeds and I will trap them and take them to a shelter in X days. If they are your pets you need to keep them out of my yard" Include the picture she provides. I absolutely agree with your instinct of "no way, we are not taking in probably stolen cats".

A lot of places have laws that if you find a stray you have to notify Animal control and put up some notices, then the owner has X number of days to say that is their pet. If the cats are pets and cow worker traps and takes them to a shelter and owner claims them the shelter or the county will most likely tell the owner that they need to stop letting their pets roam.

50 There is a family of little ditflickers (I don't know birds) in a bush where I park at work. Every time I do one of them jumps out of the bush and acts injured trying to lead me away from the nest. You would think they wouldn't see me as a threat as I'm the one who fills the birdfeeder 15 feet away that they eat out of.

I used to have a decorative wreath on the outside of my house in which birds built a nest they returned to year after year.

One year I decided to take down the nest. To my surprise, I discovered three living chicks in the nest! I quickly returned the nest to its place in the wreath until the chicks had grown and left the nest.

He actually lobied the legeslature to change the law so he could have them. I think he's been hunting for them for at least 6 years now.

It is abnormal if they don't. It is a form of play, and it sounds like she knew how to play with humans. The standard setting is to draw blood and gnaw trying to find bones.

In my opinion, the best thing to do in that situation is to say "ow" and stop, the cat will let go unless it is really pissed or too wound up. If you jerk away, the problem is that cats are designed to keep prey from escaping and it is like yanking your hand out of a can full of treble-hooks

66 In my opinion, the best thing to do in that situation is to say "ow" and stop, the cat will let go unless it is really pissed or too wound up. If you jerk away, the problem is that cats are designed to keep prey from escaping and it is like yanking your hand out of a can full of treble-hooks

Yeah, Hexie and Allie will bite, but they stop whenever I say "ow." Allie's teeth are *very* sharp but she rarely draws blood.

67 I'm the only one that my wifes cat will let give him belly rubs. It has not been a bloodless process. I've leared the signs when he has had enough now but early on he would just snap and I'd get all four feet and the teeth.

My tom-kitten Sejong had no self restraint as a kitten and would not stop biting -- He had no peer age playmates and the adult cats just put up with him. When Becca showed up she taught him to not play so hard, so he has calmed down a lot.

Sejong would have kitten tantrums when I carried him inside from playing, he would bite my arm repeatedly. I wore long sleeve shirts on purpose
