Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Wednesday Night ONT - April 29, 2026 [TRex]![]() Good evening Horde. The time has come for mid-week shenanigans. The bar is open. Welcome to the Wednesday night ONT which means another edition of random overnight fun and games. Pull up a chair and sit a spell. Good will offerings of amusing puns are happily accepted. Pants are optional. Be nice to your fellow commenters and AoS contributors. This is a Tucker, Candace and Megyn free zone. Please. Will you be smarter after reading this ONT? Will you be better looking? Will you be more fun at parties? Will you lose weight? Will you be wealthier? Will you be more fashionable? Maybe you should just settle for being whelmed. [Top photo: Somewhere unknown in Ireland that reminds me of Stonehenge but doesn't look anything like Stonehenge, Jenny Rose photo]Barry Larkin, now a veterinary surgeon from Melbourne, planned to interupt the torch relay along with eight other students from St John's College, believing that the Olympic Flame received too much reverence. The fake torch was hardly a master forgery, which makes the fact that it was passed off as the real deal all the more humorous. The fake was made using no more than a wooden chair leg that had been painted silver, holding at top a plum pudding can. As for the flame, which proved to be far from a reverent affair, this was created using a pair of underpants, soaked in kerosene. After a shaky start, Larkin ran with the torch to Sydney Town Hall protected by police who thought that he was the official runner, where he presented the torch to the Mayor of Sydney, Pat Hills. As the mayor was unprepared, he did not look at the torch and went straight to his speech. While Hills was talking, Larkin walked quietly away, avoiding attention. Hills didn't realise at all that the torch was fraudulent until someone whispered in his ear and told him it was a fake. Hills looked around for Larkin, but by now Larkin had merged into the crowd and escaped. What could be a better tribute to the Olympic spirit than unauthorized flaming underwear on a chair leg? A bill introduced in the Ohio House would designate the Loveland Frogman as the state's official cryptid. A bill sponsored by Reps. Tristan Rader, D-13th district, and Jean Schmidt, R-62nd district, calls for the local legend to be named Ohio's official state cryptid. House Bill 821 describes the Loveland Frogman as "a frog-like, bipedal creature standing approximately four feet tall." The legend dates back to 1972, when two police officers reported spotting a large frog-like creature on different nights. The Frogman made headlines again in 2016, when a couple claimed to have seen the massive amphibian while playing Pokemon Go. The sighting prompted Mark Mathews, who purports to be one of the police officers who spotted the Frogman in 1972, to come forward with the whole story. Mathews said the first officer to spot the Frogman, Ray Shockey, told him he saw the creature near the Totes boot factory and the Little Miami River. Mathews said he was skeptical of the story, but a few days later he was driving in the same area when he saw something run across the road. He ended up shooting the creature and putting it in his trunk to show Shockey, who confirmed it was the same animal he had seen. The animal was a 3- to 3 1/2-foot-long iguana that was missing its tail.I don't know whether to be impressed that the Ohio legislature has solved the rest of the world's problems so that they have time for such things, horrified that the Ohio legislature is passing legislation to to formally embrace a hoax, or pleased that people so stupid are busy doing things like this instead of doing harm by "fixing" things elsewhere. At least in North Carolina, they're spending their time looking for something that actually exists. Although I'm not sure how big a missing pig needs to be to warrant making the news. To be fair, the report does say the pig has "absolute unit" status. ![]() The world's largest Tyrannosaurus Rex statue needs a new home. Tyra, located in the Canadian Badlands, is a gigantic kitschy roadside attraction that, like the dinosaurs she is based on, is facing extinction. The 86-foot-tall T. rex that weighs in at around 145,000 pounds - significantly taller and heavier than any real-life T. rex - has called the small Canadian town of Drumheller her home since 2000. Visitors have been able to climb inside the giant dinosaur and stand in its open jaws that double as a viewing platform. Unfortunately, according to the Calgary Herald, Tyra is facing a problem no dinosaur has ever faced in their collective many millions of years on Earth: her lease is set to expire. In 2029, the current terms suggest that the structure could be dismantled. Local officials understand that it is a bit of a logistical nightmare to just up and move a giant dinosaur monolith, but so far, no one has come up with a viable solution for moving such a behemoth. In the meantime, Tyra underwent a structural assessment to ensure that she is stable and safe, and local officials invested over $300,000 into repairing and restoring the local landmark, ensuring that if Tyra does in fact change locations, she will be in relatively good shape.Maybe AOP needs a new lawn ornament? Tyra lives just down the road. If anyone can engineer a giant T-Rex transfer, it is AOP. Hat tip: Blaster ![]() You would be surprised to learn that almost 69% of the US mushroom production occurs in the borough of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. It is a small town of about 6000 people, but mushroom-growing facilities around town produce almost 451 million pounds of mushrooms annually (2024). 451 million pounds of mushrooms would occupy about 45 American football fields or 35 soccer fields. The dollar value of mushroom production in the US is roughly $ 1 billion per year. China is the undisputed leader in mushroom production. China accounts for 93% of the world's global mushroom production. The history of mushroom farming in Kennett Square dates back to 1885, when a grower obtained mushroom spores from Europe and began growing mushrooms. This concentration of mushroom farming in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, is due to historical immigration patterns, primarily of Italians in the 1950s or 1960s, easy availability of horse manure for the mushroom substrate, and easy access to the Philadelphia and New York markets.Source Keyshun Jones was fired from the store in Grapevine, outside Dallas, last November, but authorities say he would repeatedly slip back in, enter food orders on the register, and refund them to his personal credit card. Jones was taken into custody on April 17 after allegedly ringing up 800 orders of mac and cheese. Investigators began investigating the cheesy fraud after the restaurant reported hundreds of phony refunds. Jones faces charges of property theft, money laundering and evading arrest. He faces up to 10 years in state prison, if convicted - where he'll also be able to order mac & cheese, according to the menus on the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.Just imagine the jailhouse conversation: "What are you in for?" "Money laundering" "Yeah? Wow. That's sounds big. What did you do?" "I stole 800 orders of mac and cheese." -------- Might be the frequency they operate on. For a while GM had one frequency, Ford another, and so on. I think there were about 4, maybe 5 different frequencies used by various manufacturers. I had all 4 in my wife's Ford Explorer (2020) replaced this past summer. They are a different frequency than my Chevy Colorado pickup. It could also be a simple matter of "arming" it via some weird shit you do in the vehicle; like tap the brake 3 times, turn the key off/on some magical number of times, offer up a chicken, etc. Do a web search and check out YouTube vids. Frustrating to spend time and money on something I lived well without for over 50 years of driving. Posted by: Anonymous Rogue in Kalifornistan (ARiK) at April 29, 2026 10:44 PM (QGaXH) You need to use a scan tool with the proper software to access and alter the TPMS program in the car's on-board computer. Code readers cannot do it. On my 2008 Suburban, I went with TPMS sensors for years. Finally found some affordable ones on Amazon, bought a set, and had them installed in the rims when I bought a set of new tires. The tire shop had to use the aforementioned scan tool to make the car recognize them. Fuckers barely lasted a year. Last year, I bought a set of near-new Michelins from a friend, mounted them myself, and shitcanned all the TPMS sensors. They were all swollen and split. Bad batteries, I guess. There used to be something called "virtual TPMS" which I think was really better. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at April 29, 2026 10:58 PM (utfVc) 136

They disbanded after releasing their final album In The End in 2019, completed using vocal demos that lead singer Dolores O'Riordan had recorded on her hard drive before her accidental drowning death in 2018. Another reason for the large number of mushroom farms in PA is the availability of played out hard rock coal mines.
You've heard of mushroom management : Keep 'em in the dark and feed 'em shit. Coal mines are great for the "dark" part. One of the major dangers in raising mushrooms is contamination of the beds with non-wanted spores. There are a huge number of mushroom species in the world, but only a relative handful are not poisonous to one degree or another. The last thing a mushroom operation wants is a stray airborne spore from one of the "bad" mushrooms getting in among their crop. Coal mines are almost ridiculously easy to isolate. I've mentioned in the past that my wife is a coal miner's (step)daughter. There is a mushroom operation about 5 miles from her parent's house in a defunct coal mine. ShroomsSmall.jpg You would be surprised to learn that almost 69% of the US mushroom production occurs in the borough of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. Biden's Dog I listened to Bovino and there wasn't much there, I mean details of the sort that an insider (former but recent) could use to illustrate what he's saying. The high-profile "metro surges" - LA, Chicago, Charlotte, Minneapolis, and apparently a mini-one in Phoenix - are not typical procedure, nor are they the whole story. My main question remains when the most important enforcement element will kick into very high gear - employment, and employers.
Of the two magnets, employment and welfare, the first is by the far the most important and largest. Progress has been made on the latter, which is much easier and more efficient as we're talking federal programs. But the dramatic outflow we need, starting yesterday, to materially change the situation prior to who knows what January 21, 2029 ain't coming til the employment magnet is diminished or switched off.

A minor league baseball team in Pennsylvania will celebrate an unusual local cryptid this season when, for one night only, they will take to the field as the Squonk. Said to inhabit the northern forests of the state, the curious-looking critter was first detailed in the 1910 book 'Fearsome Creatures of the Lumberwoods.' The "always unhappy" Squonk was said to sport "misfitting skin" that made it so unsightly and uncomfortable that the pig-like creature constantly wept about its unfortunate state and could "dissolve itself in tears" should it be frightened or the need to escape from capture arise. A United Airlines flight from SF "encountered" a drone on approach to Lindbergh Field here in San Diego this morning. First report said "struck" but later airline revised the report, crews found no evidence of any collision.
Didn't say which part of the pattern, and I'm not sure of the exact speed of a plane like that on approach, but pretty sure it's much faster than any conventional drone - so an "encounter" could be pretty exciting, as in screaming just past the drone. I get a "check tire monitor system" text message in the display panel, and that can be turned off by hitting the trip odometer rest button. But the amber tire alert lamp stays lit. It is easily ignorable. I ran into the text-wall limit when referring to "virtual" TPMS. That system used the ABS wheel-speed sensors to compute a running count of wheel revolutions on a per-wheel basis. With 4 like tires, all the wheels should do an exactly equal number of revolutions over a long-enough time span (so that corners and road bends are averaged out). If one wheel consistently records more or fewer revolutions than its mates, it might be under or over inflated. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at April 30, 2026 12:24 AM (utfVc) 219

Posted by: rhomboid at April 30, 2026 12:29 AM (U/Byj) TPMS is a heavy-handed attempt to force habitually unobservant people to check their tires. Unfortunately, the implementation has been very bad. You what would work? Mount four of those el-cheapo non-contact infrared temperature sensors, one at each wheel. Underinflated tires run hot, and very hot as they approach failure. You could have software that compares measured temperature of each tire and compares to what should be expected, given ambient temperature, road speed, and duration of trip. If a sensor gets obscured by mud or dirt, or suffers road damage, system could report "sensor error, XX wheel, see dealer". I would make the sensors standardized to a very few types, and as easy to replace as a light bulb. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at April 30, 2026 12:44 AM (utfVc) 231

I can't even work on new harleys because they have become such a technological nightmare you need $1000's of dollars of scanning tools. Up until not that long ago the repair manuals all had a wiring section, basically the schematics and some trouble shooting for certain electrical goodies. Now? lolol, yeah right. Thats not even in the books anymore noooooo you need to buy an electrical manual. Its 2" thick, it's $100, will be useless when the next year's model comes out, and is all flow charts and requires computer programs and break out boxes that you need to update the adapter plugs for newer models. The shops I work out of all said fuck this. Posted by: Berserker-Dragonheads Division at April 30, 2026 12:47 AM (snZF9) 234
Thanks, AOP & Bers-- ignore the TPMS light. Check!
At least it will be there to prompt me to check the pressure more often, I suppose. LOL I go to the dealer for oil changes. (The idjit-lube places have mostly gone out of business locally. Wonder why? *not really*) Of course, dealer always tries to push another $600-700 "service" each visit. I know they'll want to do the tires, so will get a bid from my fave tire shop before next oil change. Car mfr's warranty runs out this autumn. {Hold me, mommy, I'm scared!} Posted by: JQ at April 30, 2026 12:49 AM (rdVOm) 235

Berserker, there's long been a trend in some consumer product areas to seek out "older" models, because they were .... better. Better made, but also without all the useless "features" (= more things to break or go wrong).
I've wondered why there hasn't already been anyone even trying to capture market share with better made, simpler products. From cars to water heaters to fridges. Oh sure, exploit any actual advances in materials or design - which in most cases are minimal. But make them simpler, make them last, and charge more - there would be the proverbial mobs beating a path to your door(s). Posted by: rhomboid at April 30, 2026 12:53 AM (U/Byj) 239

Did you ever watch that youtube video by a guy that made hot-tube ignition for a Briggs & Stratton mower engine? He used stack of those little "anti-fouling adaptors they used to sell for spark plugs - basically an inch-long steel tube with a 14 mm male thread on one end, and a female on the other. I think he ended up stacking about six of them. The engine started on its spark plug, and once warmed up, the tube was hot enough to act as a glow plug, and fire the mixture. And the engine would run on practically any fuel. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at April 30, 2026 12:54 AM (utfVc) 240

Speaking of tires, there is one thing I could get behind: make an improved tire valve. Maybe something with bayonet pins, and a smooth extended snout, so that a pressure gauge or tire inflating hose could latch on and make a leak-tight connection, without me having to crouch there, pushing hard on the tire chuck so it seals.

Us dumbass country boys in flyover country do a walk around the vehicle and kick the tires. If one looks low we put on the portable compressor with a digital gauge. It only happens when it -15degF. But the compressor batteries are only rated at -4degF so it stays in in house until needed. Those valve stem sensors suck balls.

Posted by: Rev. Wishbone at April 30, 2026 01:02 AM (Fbc0I) Smart truckers used to walk around their rigs and trailers with a bat or hammer, and thump all the tires on the sidewall. A properly-inflated tire gives a slightly musical "dunk" sound, while a low tire makes more of a flat slap. Any tire that "thumps" with an odd note is worthy of closer inspection. I have an '87, an '88, a '92, a '94, and a '97. They all have the EVO engine. That engine was made from 1984 1/2 up to 1999. I have them because I worked on 100's of them, and they are solid. Made my day, when one older gentleman brought his boat in to the locksmith shop-- his key turned, but didn't actuate the ignition. No other employees were available, so I hopped up into the boat & checked things out...
Simple switch. Several wires/connectors. Tightened them all (starter wire was loose). Found one wire dangling & traced it to some accessories.. hooked it to the "key on" pole. All good! Starter worked, everything worked, customer satisfied! Ran into the old fellow in another store a while later-- he was so happy! Introduced me to his friend: "This here's the gal that fixed my radio!" Hahaha. Posted by: JQ at April 30, 2026 02:12 AM (rdVOm) 270
