Three people were sentenced to jail in an insurance fraud scheme that involved dressing up as a bear and staging fake attacks. Alfiya Zuckerman, 39, Ruben Tamrazian, 26, and Vahe Muradkhanyan, 32, pleaded no contest to felony insurance fraud (injuring or destroying insured property) in the "Operation Bear Claw" investigation. The scheme involved the suspects claiming a bear entered their 2010 Rolls-Royce Ghost and destroyed the interior, according to a California Department of Insurance (CDI) news release. After their November 2024 arrest, each was sentenced to 180 days in jail and two years of supervised probation on Thursday, April 16. Zuckerman was ordered to pay $55,360 in restitution; Tamrazian, $52,268; while Muradkhanyan's restitution amount is still being determined. A fourth suspect, Ararat Chirkinian, 39, is scheduled to return to court for a preliminary hearing in September 2026.

Having been on oilfield jobs in bear country just like that pictured above, the safety hands keep up a constant refrain of "beware of bears", so people are psyched up to bears under every tarp. And if it's an oilfield in Canada, nobody can keep a firearm in camp, except the one Indian whose sole job is to shoot problem bears, when and if they do become a problem.

I take it as a sign that they couldn't balance the power scaling, and instead of either tweaking the mechanics or lowering the ramp rate, they just wiped the progress to keep it in the balanced range. Even with a good in-game narrative reason -- like getting kidnapped or arrested and having everything confiscated -- the meta would keep from fully forgiving them.

The hotel serves up a breakfast buffet -- probably eggs, maybe sausage, the do-it-yourself waffles, cereal and milk, juice, and coffee. Given how the room has worked out for me, I wonder also how the food will be.

Yes, That presumes federal funding. Below that cost threshold they can do major repairs with 'maintenance' money at the agencies discretion (the money is given lump sum by Congress w/o regard to specific projects). I had one project where the building "maintenance" money was used to strip it to bare structural steel.

I've lived for years with PB&J for lunch, bring in cheap loaf of bread, generic PB and J. This was an office job. Coworkers going out to lunch every day thought I was stuck up or some shit.
Then I moved up to big ass pots of chili. Freeze individual portions. Eat with saltines. Chili for months on end.

Here in jersey we can get these ravioli from a company called Pastosa. I think they may have originated in Brooklyn, but you see them in some of the italian stores around here. They come in a box packed in corn meal. My grandmother was the italian cook from hell and thats what she used if she didn't make her own. They are the shit. As my grandmothers both got older they stopped making the fresh pasta altogether. They still made their sauce, but no more pasta drying all over the house. lol

This is why we spend so much on military housing on base. Redoing old, useless 1950's concrete barracks into "apartments," which are always awful, and cost more than going into town and buying each soldier a 2-bedroom house. It is all "maintenance" money. If we tore the whole thing down and started new, it would be cheaper, but the funding would take 6 years through Congress and might not happen at all, so we spend all the maintenance money making something that's about half-assed.

Who knows how some TDS afflicted judge is going to rule, and there's no shortage of them in DC.
Congress' sole power here is the power of the purse, but Trump has negated that by getting private donations. There's no special historic value to the east wing, and legally, that's moot, anyway. Under the Unitary executive power he can issue any executive order that is not otherwise illegal to direct the actions of people and property use under the executive purview. The White House is definitely under executive control.

I expect it is on the Historic Register or some such foolishness, which would mean it was administered by the Parks Service. If that were so, then perhaps there would be paperwork to file, but I rather doubt the Parks Service can over-rule the POTUS.

Sdhofield is definitely on the Register, but they get around that because it is considered militarily necessary. Also means things like they don't need elevators for the HCP access, etc.
I've found all sorts of odd items when remodeling old barracks on bases. So far no body parts, but some of these guys would squirrel away.... well. Nuff said.

Salt is also necessary to counteract some of the rise of yeast, actually. And modern recipes of all kinds, not just Bread, have gone to the other extreme, you can tell because they barely deign to include it, with some ridiculous “1/64th teaspoon”.

Super low-carb 'crustless pizza'. One of the chains has it.
To make it at home just use an aluminum pie pan or other tin, spritz it with some oil, and load up all the usual shit.
Works great in toaster ovens.
There is some 'cheap' pepperoni. Any store probably has at least three brands. I used to always go for Bridgeford in stick and cut it myself... and it used to be the cheapest and the best, but labor intensive.
but something happened to the formula recently (or local distro) and it turned to shit, almost rancid.

Back in the very early 80's the 24 hour thing was just catching on. There was one 24 hour McDonalds, but there were 2 white castles about 10 miles apart. Originally that McDonalds wasn't 24 hour, but it was smack dab in between one of the white castles and a jack in the box which were both 24 hour. They finally got a clue and went 24 hour. The problem was they were a little far from all the area metal clubs and bars. There was a 3rd white castle that was somewhat close to the bulk of the clubs that were on this section of Rt35 heading towards the shore, so in reality that white castle was the safe bet and there was nothing else that was 24 hour. Eventually a shit ton of places went 24 hour, but in the bad old days white castle was salvation.
