12 Update on the homeless woman I encountered at church today: If you remember, I put The Lovely Mrs. on the case 'cause something just didn't sound right with her story.

It turns out:

1) Woman was local and parental units have forbidden her from their home

2) She released from the clink today. She was in there due to 3 missed court dates for a shoplifting arrest

3) All the local homeless shelters wouldn't take her in due to previous disruptions/bad acting

4) No local friends will host her either due to past indiscretions

No one can sniff out a BS story faster than the Mrs.

16 Evening, overnight satellites and satraps of the Greater Ace of Spades HQ Empire.

Been a busy day in Kansas. Saw three houses -- well, two; one was already "under contract" after we drove 15 minutes (at a fun 80mph at least) to get to it. One needed a LOT of work. The third was . . . generic. Nice, and I could see things I could do to make it mine. But home insurance and property taxes in Kansas are insane. Indiana has now moved back to the top in the rankings as a Wolfus bolthole. (KS is great as far as car insurance goes, though.)

In the meantime, I have one more day here, and tomorrow I'll drive up to the famous cowtown Abilene for breakfast and to see what I can see.

So the woman is infamous if no shelter will take her. Tells a good tale of reform.

In FL, when I was a RN case manager in the ED of the med center, there was a shelter where they'd have to do a tiny bit of work for room and board. No booze, no drugs, no fighting. Men only.

The shelter had a list of those who could not go there for one or all the reasons. Some would tell me they did not wanna work, and tell me they were on the list! Whine! UGH. Don't miss those days, which are far worse a decade later. You had to be dishcharged to a "safe" place vs kicked to the curb.

If the patient had a wound or pneumonia we would taxi them to a motel (known for bad wimmen) for 3 nights. Paid by the hospital or taxes, plus free meds.

One old guy, when I was new to the job, charmed me with his Irish accent. Pneumonia. Swore he'd quit and change. The ED docs told me he would not and they were correct. Months later I saw him drunk and dancing a jig at an art's festival street fair. Drunk as any Irishman could possibly be.

The stories I could tell...

I can't read stories like that and I am pretty hardened after over 5yrs in a busy ED with Trauma Service.

If the story in the news is about a baby or child I see the headlines and nope! I can't handle it.

Somehow, with one exception, on my days off I missed the worst of bad stuff with kids or teens. My HS boys were driving at the time, and I missed those car accidents my partner dealt with (there were two of us job sharing). I am thankful I was spared.

I was stuck in a room with a child abuser once. Shaken baby syndrome of a 1yr old we were flying out to Orlando. The sheriff told me to not let on we knew he was guilty, so I played it cool but was not happy to be alone with him. They wanted to wait for tests before his arrest. So I remember that one.

Built a generic React front end and back end to go through all of the tables and indexes.

This is going to take a while to wrap my mind around how to fully implement and leverage but I'm game.

84 12 Update on the homeless woman I encountered at church today: If you remember, I put The Lovely Mrs. on the case 'cause something just didn't sound right with her story.

It turns out:

1) Woman was local and parental units have forbidden her from their home

2) She released from the clink today. She was in there due to 3 missed court dates for a shoplifting arrest

3) All the local homeless shelters wouldn't take her in due to previous disruptions/bad acting

4) No local friends will host her either due to past indiscretions

No one can sniff out a BS story faster than the Mrs.

Piper...we fly in and out of NOLA to drive to my parent's farm in MS once a year. Two years ago in a hotel in French Quarter, a drunk or two set off the fire alarm at 0300. We twice had to go down stairs and explain to our grandson about a bad man who did this but that it was not a fire.

From that morning on, if he heard a car alarm walking around, it was "the bad man."

Upon leaving the NOLA airport, walking to the gate to fly home, he was holding my husband's hand. Saw a male and female, cuffed, walking towards us with police. He said to my dude:"They caught the bad man." He got closure and we laughed.

I may be raising pyromaniacs. I feed our grandbabies by one of our gas fireplaces. To burp this last lass I turn on the fire for her and a burp follows. At 6mo she knew the remote control was involved and stared at the fireplace then remote.

Six weeks later she stares at the fireplace til I light it for her after she has half a bottle. We laugh because she sits straight up, stares, then stares at the remote. She may think her mind controls this, as she sure does control her Nana.

I may be doing this in the dog days of summer to please her highness.

Two dark-colored critters streaked past in the snow. Went to the other window, and saw two brown rabbits going like 60. Didn't see any predator chasing them. These are snowshoe rabbits, technically "varying hares". They have their summer coats already; in Winter they are pure white.

I talked her out of it on the basis of "They are a big breed, not really an apartment dog, and you'll have to walk him in all weathers." Gradually she came around to cats, an animal she didn't know much about. Now she says she prefers felines and is glad I talked her into adopting one.

The fence needs repair first. I won't have a dog that can run at large. Hubby is rehabbing from shoulder surgery so not just yet. It gives me time. I was very attached to our last boy.

167 Great Danes are great dogs. We had one who lived to age 12. Old for that breed. She was an awesome dog. Had heart attack in the yard on Christmas day 2005. RIP Ginger.

Never owned one but every GD I've met has been a big goofball. At the park I walk Elvis I met a guy who rescued a GD during the lockdown.

If they got there before us he come galloping, over like a pony as soon as we saw us and then lean on me untill he thought I had pet him enough. He was enormous and gentle as a lamb. What a sweet dog. Great breed.

Fix the fence one one afternoon, buy the dog. Shelters are full of pups.

I lost my Logan puppy in 2020 and it hurt worse than anything. But after a couple years, I was ready. A new dog does help with the pain, if by no other way than by keeping you very busy and distracted from grief.

2) She released from the clink today. She was in there due to 3 missed court dates for a shoplifting arrest

3) All the local homeless shelters wouldn't take her in due to previous disruptions/bad acting

At first thought this might seem counterintuitive, but I believe our society is being very cruel in not giving someone like that at least some medium term incarceration. (A year or two at least)

How is she going to survive with such fatal flaws as that? Being a woman, she is likely to fall into the clutches of some pimp and end up dead.

It’s easier to ignore them, but past generations knew how to deal with failed people far more responsibly than we do.

We need to fence in an acre. Hubby will insist on doing it himself, with me as helper. We will do it when his shoulder is healed. Right now, he could not do the work. I'd never say anything right now about the fence. It would make him feel bad.

As to my palate, umm, not really. I get enough to please/not please me, but nothing like people who can really distinguish flavor notes. But funny you mention that, because I checked the Aficionado tasting note for this cigar today and whattayaknow, I actually had already ID'd several of the flavors. This is quite rare.

He is. I was told he is mostly a Treeing Tennesse Brindle when I got him from the rescue. Mostly. Never heard of them.

Some Presbyterian minister in the Ozarks decided there needed to be yet another breed of hound so he took a Coon Hound and whatever else he coud find and came up with these goofy dogs.

Always had Goldens and I love them. But this hound is pretty special.
