Definitely we need "diversity" in the staff that supports Delta Force, not just the best, most qualified people. More diversity like this smugly beast.

It's not as if the unit absolutely depends on microscopic advantages over the enemy to survive.

Note that the media is of course misrepresenting her as a "Delta Force member." She's not. She's back-office support staff. I think she's a civilian now -- she had once enlisted for some Army gig at one point, but she's now just an "Army employee," not an enilsted soldier.

A former Army employee was arrested and charged with allegedly leaking classified information about a covert military force to a reporter, according to court documents unsealed Wednesday.
Federal prosecutors allege in a criminal complaint that Courtney Williams of Wagram, North Carolina, divulged classified information to an unnamed reporter between 2022 and 2024 about her time in Delta Force, a U.S. Army Special Military Unit, or SMU.
According to the complaint, Williams worked for the Army between 2010 and 2016 after serving as a contractor and previously enlisting, and held a top secret security clearance. Williams left in 2016, after investigators said she had her access to classified information suspended, "based on an internal investigation" conducted in 2015 and 2016.
She is charged with one count of illegally communicating or transmitting national defense information, which is punishable by up to 10 years in prison if convicted. Court records show she was arrested Tuesday and was ordered to be temporarily detained in jail ahead of a preliminary hearing on April 13.
According to an FBI affidavit included in the complaint, Williams and the reporter "discussed William's employment at the SMU and associated information" in texts and "consistent and extensive phone conversations." The affidavit also alleges that Williams "provided documents, photographs, notes, and/or other materials to the Journalist, some of which likely contained classified NDI that was subsequently published in the Article and the Book," through a removable hard drive and emails in ten document batches.

What I've seen on Twitter is that she doxxed the Delta Force commander who the Maduro mission. These men's identities are kept top secret for a reason -- they and their families will be subject to violent retaliation by terrorists and drug barons if they're publicly known.

Williams was featured prominently in a Politico article as an on-the-record voice in a story profiling alleged misconduct in Delta Force, a covert military unit where Delta Force is headquartered. That article, by Seth Harp, was adapted from his book, which was to be published shortly after the article.

In a statement posted to social media late Wednesday, Harp described Williams as a "courageous whistleblower who exposed rampant gender discrimination and sexual harassment" in Delta Force.

We don't need to be ridiculous on this board. Women have been in theater, and are needed in theater for roles that men are either ill-suited or can't do.

Should they be front-line combat? No. But they are needed in theater for city sweeps and female/child pat downs/discussions, intel gathering onsite, medical care, etc.

As for embedding in a special forces unit, they can also bring the option of different approaches to a problem, always being both underestimated and overappreciated by the male sex. But usually, they are tasked to the group for a one shot, and not assigned with the group b/c their talents are not always needed.

Prior service has two things--A) vet preference, and B) already has a security clearance from Uncle Sam. Gives a big advantage to prior service folks for DoW contractor jobs.

And, unless you have contacts and some sort of preexisting experience or skill, a MA or even a PhD in IR from anything other than a top school means being thrown into the pool competing with a vast number of graduates worldwide from such programs.

Don't know your particular situation, school, or mentoring, but I was on academic hiring committees for academic and staff jobs and the competition is stiff. Probably about as bad for think tanks.

Buddies of mine in Comparative or IR struggled for years to get permanent faculty jobs and many ended up doing something far different than their degree implied.

Special Forces get a budget that is secret and have a lot of secrets to keep including names of personnel that no commander wants spread about in an open courtroom. Cheaper to settle than risk disclosure of secret information. Same reason a lot of shithead leakers and spies/traitors often get a prison sentence rather than the government go to trial.

FWIW, every now and again, a smart defense lawyer raises discovery facts on the possible civilian (and illegal from the 4th Amendment standpoint) of Stinger cell towers used to try one of their clients.

Often these cases are dropped as a result to avoid disclosure of what the local popo, state fusion centers, and feds are doing in bulk interception of cellphone and internet data.

She was prior service in Army according to later reports and then hired as a contractor. Security clearances from the military service can carry over if recent enough which is enough to give them an advantage plus the vet preference in getting a job. And depending on specialty, it can be an exact fit for admin positions required to shuffle paperwork. Prior service have some idea about how DoW procedures work while outsiders may or may not.

Fair number of people here are prior service that jump over to the civilian DoW contractor side after leaving active service.

Because it was essentially with the Covid additions, gravy to insurance companies. The BBB did not end the Obamacare subsidies but did eliminate the enhanced premium tax credits under Covid and eliminated auto reenrollment (weeding out fraudulent applicants). Rest of enrollment was tightened up as well.

Some may in fact lose coverage that were in the Obamacare markets but primarily because they valued other things more than health insurance. Plus the penalty for not having it now is also set at zero from other GOP legislation.

Security clearances from the military service can carry over if recent enough which is enough to give them an advantage plus the vet preference in getting a job. And depending on specialty, it can be an exact fit for admin positions required to shuffle paperwork. Prior service have some idea about how DoW procedures work while outsiders may or may not.

Fair number of people here are prior service that jump over to the civilian DoW contractor side after leaving active service.

What people aren't grasping is that this is literally *dangerous*. These people are going to be come doctors, engineers, etc. They are - by any metric - vastly less capable than prior generations. These effects are cumulative over a lifetime.

This grade inflation is part of the problem, but not even close to the entirety. And the problem obviously starts in K-12.

Students don't know history because, you can't actually become historically literate on the advice of 'never assign more than 30 pages a week'. You can't develop any of the skills that came with literacy. This is, quite honestly, a civilizational catastrophe.

Heh. Started out as Heavy Equipment Operator because the bonus offered by the recruiter was bigger on student loan repayment. After the Cold War ended post Desert Storm, massive overstaffing in that area ended. Our CE squadron went from 150, to 100, to 50 during that time.

Back in the Cold War days, they figured a lot of the Rapid Runway Repair types would be dead from cluster and other nasty munitions so they vastly overstaffed those folks.
