Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals: Pornographers Have No "Right" to Sell Their Pornography to Taxpayer Funded School Libraries So That Children Have Access to Their Porn

Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals announces stunning legal conclusion: Schools do not "owe" pornographers the "right" to have taxpayer-funded schools purchase their pornography to make it available to children in school libraries.

This is where we are: This was actually a live debate in the courts.

Authors of pornographic books do not have an inalienable right to sell their goods to school libraries, a three-judge panel of the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled on Monday.

A coalition of LGBT groups, free-speech organizations, authors, and publishers is challenging an Iowa law requiring schools to ensure that books are "age-appropriate."

Senate File 496 explicitly refers to books with "descriptions or visual depictions of a sex act" and says school libraries cannot hand them out to kids.

This upset Penguin Random House, Hachette Book Group, and HarperCollins, who all really want to place pornographic books in front of kids.

However, the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals reversed a preliminary injunction against the law, holding that schools have a "legitimate pedagogical" interest in which books are accessible to kids during the day.

...

The court further ruled that children do not have a right to read certain books in schools, and this does not amount to a book ban.

"The First Amendment does not guarantee students the right to access books of their choosing at taxpayer expense," the ruling stated, citing case precedents.

Hello! Happy Thursday, one of the best days of the week!

Just a quick slumpbuster if you would, or even if you wouldn't.

Here's a little news on me: I got almost eight hours of uninterrupted sleep last night and my energy levels are yuge. I've gotten a huge amount done this morning. Went after it hard twenty minutes after getting up. Unfortunately I've been working on a bunch of things to the exclusion of the first post of the day, which is why I'm posting this quickie.

(Oh, varnishing done, but there is a little left in the can so I'm going to slop on one more coat on to the top.)

Man, do you people routinely get a full night of sleep and have this much energy? If so, I feel really cheated.

Need only about 6 1/2 hours of sleep. Usually wake up to turn over once, then out until the alarm. Honestly, have to be sick to get 8 hours.

Causes a little tension because wife truly needs about 9 hours and the almost 1-year-old pup can be a little dynamic at bedtime.

Never. No matter how many times I swear to myself I WILL brush my teeth, pop in my retainer, get out of my tight clothes, turn off the lights, and get into bed, I just keep collapsing on the couch with all kinds of sleep-inhibiting things in my environment and toss around all night in a low-level state of conscious disturbance that I really should get up and go to bed.

Then it's wakeup later than I wanted because I didn't sleep enough and drag around all day until "bed" time.

It’s a little like the Limitless drug, except I have a sense after so many 29th birthdays that it’s just a rare glimpse of what used to be “normal.” And it is rare. I’m not sure if it tracks exactly and only with good sleep or more likely other factors, but it is a magical experience that only happens a handful of times…in a year. So like you I try to absolutely make hay on everything when I wake up like that. I would do anything to replicate that every day.

I was curious about how efficient the verification is in practice. Pretty good for the US based and affiliated sites - the ones that most users are familiar with, but non existent coverage for foreign based sites. The kids and the adults who want their content will figure that out quickly, if not already. Incidentally Reddit, which is lousy with the most scurrilous porn imaginable is not considered a porn site.

All I ever hear is how important quality sleep is, and do this, don't do that to insure you get your 8 solid hours. My body refuses to sleep like that. I'm lucky if I can sleep 5 hours a night. Six is a miracle. And maybe once every few years, I can sleep all night without waking up a dozen times. Insomnia blows.

Kids today are so spoiled. In the olden days, we had forest porn, the trick was in finding a hiding place that would keep it intact through any weather. Not to mention, dodging the dinosaurs in the forest to read about how the centerfold chick is working towards world peace while using the money from modeling for Penthouse to attend medical school.

True--both public libraries and school systems.
I have a niece who was a journalist (not a reporter. Facts aren't nearly as important as how big feels can be in a situation), who wrote a book with a very dramatic title, on her feelings at being embedded in A-stan for a major paper.
While it got tepid reviews, she still had plenty of tours, signings and income from...her book being assigned at the high school level in several state school systems.
If every kid in the junior class of an entire state needs a copy of your book, well...

169 But she claimed it was the wealthier guy to get more child support, and hence her asking if she was the asshole just because she was "trying to get more money for my baby"

Slut Shaming needs to be a thing again.

170 18-1, it seems most of these young women had multiple guys convinced it was theirs, and was milking every single one of them for bennies.
The fights could get pretty epic

Banning paternity tests is becoming a big thing in Europe because too many guys are finding out their kids and not in fact their kids...

I remember that episode. Gordon Jump was the actor in question.

172 Most often heard in re labor and delivery, when two or more different baby daddies showed up for the same mama in labor.

I saw an Am I the Asshole thread a while back. The woman writing it had recently given birth. She had been dating two guys when she conceived, but was pretty sure it was the poorer guy she was seeing at the time based on when she had sex with each of them. But she claimed it was the wealthier guy to get more child support, and hence her asking if she was the asshole just because she was "trying to get more money for my baby"

Saw some story yesterday about some lady who had sex with two guys in one day, and she had twins. Two eggs, two swimmers, two twin babies, two different baby daddies.

David Axelrod apparently had a private audience with Pope Leo yesterday.

He wanted Obama to sue the Little Sisters of the Poor for not providing abortions back in the day.

Wonder what they had to talk about.

Restrict fluids after lunch. Half-liter sparkling water w/ shot of VSOP at bedtime. Sleep to the alarm, but do not hit snooze.

CBC - a conservative changes to the liberals

CNN - vessels passing through the Strait. Israel and Lebanon. Again, good luck.

MS Now - Trump disappointed in Nato. Their military analyst was concerned. Dude knows what happens when you break a truce in 'Risk.'

Sleep cycles are about 90-100 minutes. For me, first cycle? Don't even think about trying to wake me. Each is a little shallower after that, but generally don't notice the transitions unless turning over. Only going from cycle 3 to 4 does it get to the surface.

I always liked the idea of giving porn sites their own top-level domain and creating a "digital red-light area" that would be easy to block at, say, work or schools.

Posted by: FeatherBlade at April 09, 2026 12:26 PM (a+4eV)

That already exists, .xxx and such, but you can't force those sites to use those domains. Most will just remain on .com.
