34 Reading up on Bowes' life, it was too short. "Lung disease" which could be complications from tuberculosis. She'd have beat the disease but not the lung damage.
Her husband John Bowes seems to have been awesome. He was a son of an earl but illegitimate - a "natural son" or a "fitz" rather than a bastard per se, but still couldn't inherit. So he went and bought a peerage from San Marino ... for Josephine. Also collected art which he was going to put in a museum in her honor, or should I say "honour".

80 A simple scene, serene with a sense of the ages it took to form the cliffs. The human figures are just the latest moment in an ancient process. The artist captures the structure of the stone, the quiet of the scene with the gentle surf, and the soft colors of stone, beach and sky that blend from a limited palette.

I had not heard of this artist before and looking at some of her other paintings I want to learn more. She does wonderful things with sun and moonlight to set a scene and a mood. There is a feel of the Romantic period and Hudson River School in her style. Very impressive and lovely.

Disgraced California Rep. Eric Swalwell was caught on video looking completely bleary-eyed and wearing nothing but a robe while partying with a rotating crew of young “yacht girls” during a luxury blowout off the coast of St. Tropez.

According to a report from New York Post’s Page Six, the video shows Swalwell aboard a luxury yacht surrounded by a group of young women, described by sources as a rotating cast of mostly British and American guests, during what insiders called a “hush-hush” getaway.

The video was shared on Instagram by Nik Richie, CEO of Warrior Network Agency, a full-service public relations and marketing firm based in Newport Beach, California.

Sources familiar with the trip told the news outlet that the week-long excursion was alcohol-fueled and chaotic, with jet skiing, partying, and a constant flow of guests cycling on and off the vessel

Iran's entire oil industry is roughly 2 million barrels a day. That mostly goes to China. It's about 10% of the daily export from the Persian Gulf in general and about 2% of the total oil market globally.

We've had weeks now of diverting oil away from the Persian Gulf in general, and then a blockade of Iranian imports and exports all of a sudden that's designed to allow Saudi, UAE, and Omani oil exports on the sea again.

And American oil is mostly benefiting from this with increased business.

Threatening the strait was one thing. Actually trying to exert influence over it was idiotic and suicidal on the IRGC's part.

191 Birthright citizenship may not be the slam dunk it's supporters think it is: Seen on Fb:
Justice Alito just exposed the insanity behind unlimited birthright citizenship.
During Supreme Court arguments, Alito cut right through the nonsense and raised the question the open-borders crowd never wants to answer:
If someone can enter the United States illegally, have a child here, and that child is automatically handed full American citizenship, then who really controls who becomes a citizen?
The American people — or the people who break our laws to get here? That is the scam at the center of this entire debate.
This is not some harmless legal technicality. It is a direct attack on national sovereignty. It is about whether the United States still has the right to decide its own future, or whether the 14th Amendment has been twisted into a loophole that rewards illegal entry and weakens the meaning of citizenship itself. Alito exposed the heart of the problem: in a world of billions of people, just one flight away from American soil, automatic citizenship with no lawful presence, no allegiance, and no real connection to the country turns citizenship into a giveaway.

The negotiations are kabuki.

They're designed to convince the world that America isn't being a total bully, giving Europe time to understand with clarity that Iran is not going to negotiate in good faith while we move more resources and munitions into the area.

And there's probably no small part of it than to get 40 or so major leaders of the Iranian government into one place they can be easily tracked from.

I'm still thinking the forms are being followed with the idea of actually passing the Act.

It could have been killed in committee months ago, and the Senate could have put up the BS story about "oh, we couldn't do it," had a bad news cycle, and moved on.

Instead...debate just started up again when the Senate came back.

Why? Why drag it out?

I think it's because Thune has to make Collins or Mitch or Tillis happy. One or two of those three (Murk is just gonna be a hard no because she's literally a Democrat), and Thune has to dance with them to make it happen. Collins controls her own future in Maine. Mitch and Tillis are retiring at the end of this Congress. Going through the elongated debate process may be their price.
