This is a wonderful work. Forbes' use of realistic, but still artistic, detail is almost three dimensional. I love the way he catches the look of the wet sand to the shallows to the deeper water. The clothing seems appropriate to the place and time as does the worn look of the boat in the foreground. This is a working community going about its business. He captures a sense of the quiet day: the soft conversations, the still water at low tide, the relaxed postures of the people who have finished their work and are reaping the efforts. Even the various types of fish is accurate. It is evocative of a place and time of day and a time in a culture. It isn't flashy but it is real. It reminds me of the rural countryside landscapes of Constable and others from an earlier century.

"Incompetent to stand trial" is a fun one. DAs are just sending the message to people that big cities are now consequence-free environments for non-whites.
Anything goes. Behead a young girl on a train while stating on camera that this murder is racially motivated? No worries, she was white. Had it coming. Attack a priest with a knife? Alive, alive-O! alive, alive-O! Crying cockles and mussels, alive, alive-O! All seriousness aside, there is a good deal of fine detail in this painting -- not Rockwell-level, but plenty of good stuff. It evokes a dreary damp day on the beach in Cornwall, with the Gorton's Fish Guy as an older man in his sweater looking with disdain at the two women. "Wha' d'ye know aboot it, lass?"
The textures of the clothing, the fish, the beach sand itself, and the boat are all well done. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at April 15, 2026 10:06 AM (wzUl9) 176

Now that I've made my Dad jokes it's time to comment on the art. I actually like the techique, which has a nice visual appeal. The people in the foreground are nicely portrayed with realistic poses/posture. The dozens of people in the background however, are a distraction and do not add to the overall enjoyment. Lose about 2/3 of them and let the subjects up front have the spotlight.

2.) Welfare entitlements are haram, too, and anyone who publicly discusses changing that goes to the panther pit
Posted by: Yudhishthira's Dice I'd like to see an anti-welfare amendment, making it illegal for the Federal Government to send funds to any individual person or organization except for salaries, payment for goods and services rendered (i.e., contractors), compensation for a taking, and payment of liability as determined in a court of law. Nothing else. Posted by: Bulg at April 15, 2026 11:04 AM (77rzZ) 329

As of December 2025, CNN's average primetime viewership was 488,000 total viewers, which is a small fraction of the U.S. population of approximately 340 million.
CNN's viewership represents approximately 0.14% of the total U.S. population That's a shame too.... Posted by: Stateless - He ain't heavy, he's my dog. Old, but full of life. at April 15, 2026 12:24 PM (Sco7b) 341
