Happy Easter to those who celebrate! Mystery click is for you.

Open thread, as always. What's on YOUR mind tonight?

Peeps and Easter go hand in hand. But some of these flavors have gone too far!

OK, those aren't real. I wish that last one was, though! There are actually a lot of crazy Peeps flavors that are real. Fruit Punch, Dr. Pepper, ICEE Blue Raspberry. And more!

12 Easter Peeps Flavors, Ranked Worst To Best

Not a fan of eating Peeps? They are also good for building stuff. Such as a model of Alex Ovechkin to complement a goal counter.

The seersucker suit stands as a quintessential symbol of Southern summer style. Often associated with Easter services, garden parties, and warm-weather rituals, it embodies elegance in the heat.

IMG_1449-rr.jpg

The Fabric: Milk and Sugar

Seersucker derives its name from the Persian words shir o shakar (milk and sugar) referring to the fabric's alternating smooth (milk-like) and bumpy, puckered (sugar-like) stripes. Woven on special looms with varying thread tensions, the puckering creates air pockets that keep the material from clinging to the skin, making it exceptionally cool and comfortable in humid climates. Traditionally made from cotton (sometimes linen or blends), it originated in India and arrived in the West via British colonial trade as early as the 1600s–1700s. Early versions served as durable workwear for factories, railroads, and laborers due to its affordability, washability, and wrinkle-resistant qualities.

The Haspel Legend

While the fabric has ancient roots, the modern seersucker suit took shape in early 20th-century America, particularly in New Orleans and the Deep South. Around 1909, Joseph Haspel Sr. of the Haspel Company began producing full suits from the material, aiming to create affordable, practical attire for Southern businessmen enduring sweltering heat and humidity, long before air conditioning. Haspel didn't invent the fabric itself (it was already used for overalls and uniforms), but his company popularized the tailored suit version and turned it into a regional icon. A famous publicity stunt had Haspel wearing one into the sea at a Florida convention; it dried quickly and looked sharp, proving its resilience.

Haspel suits quickly became ubiquitous across the South. Brooks Brothers helped spread the style northward in the 1920s, but its heart remained below the Mason-Dixon line. The classic blue-and-white (or "hickory") stripe evokes railroad worker origins, while pastel variations (pink, mint, yellow) add playful Southern flair.

IMG_1450-rr.jpg

Seersucker and Easter Traditions

In the American South, seersucker suits mark the unofficial start of warm-weather dressing, often debuting on Easter Sunday. Families attend church in their "Sunday best," with men and boys pairing the suits with bow ties, crisp shirts, and sometimes white bucks or loafers. The lightweight fabric pairs perfectly with the season's themes of renewal and joy, complementing smocked floral dresses for women and girls. This ties directly into broader Southern Easter customs of dressing up to honor faith and family.

How to Wear a Seersucker Suit Today (2026 Style)

Seersucker remains timeless yet versatile. Classic rules:

Full Suit: Pair with a white or light blue oxford shirt, solid or subtle patterned tie (or bow tie for flair), and pocket square. Traditional shoes include black or brown leather oxfords, white bucks, or loafers. Socks are often optional or fun.

Separates: Modern takes mix the jacket with chinos, jeans, or shorts for casual outings, pair with a polo or open-collar shirt.

Accessories: Add a straw boater hat, colorful socks, or a boutonnière for Easter or events.

IMG_1448-rr.jpg

IMG_1451-rr.jpg

IMG_1452-rr.jpg

The seersucker suit is a cultural wink to Southern hospitality, practicality, and joy in the face of heat. It screams (well, drawls) of gentlemanly polish, making it ideal for Easter's spirit of renewal. Whether full suit for church or jacket for brunch, it invites you to stay cool, look sharp, and embrace the season with a bit of puckered charm.

Thanks, Piper!

Posted by: Kindltot at April 05, 2026 10:09 PM (rbvCR)

38 So one of the most interesting takes I've seen on Easter is actually from a left leaning atheist - Alex O'Connor

His argument is that the standard leftwing argument against the resurrection is weak. A large group of men claimed to see Jesus die and then come back and stuck to their claims even when tortured and killed for them. They had nothing to gain by repeating their claims unless they really and truly believed them.

We are left with two arguments. Either Jesus did come back from the dead and if not absolute proof of divinity it shows him to be something more then just a man or his followers suffered from a mass shared delusion.

Now O'Connor sticks to the latter, he freely admits mass shared delusion are incredibly rare but...argues it is more likely then the alternative. But it is nice to see a leftist and atheist not be flippant about what really is one of the most important questions every man has to answer...

61 The seersucker suit is a cultural wink to Southern hospitality, practicality, and joy in the face of heat. It screams (well, drawls) of gentlemanly polish, making it ideal for Easter's spirit of renewal. Whether full suit for church or jacket for brunch, it invites you to stay cool, look sharp, and embrace the season with a bit of puckered charm.

Sure, seersucker is one way to go, but I think you can't beat Pappy O'Donnell and his crew for true southern elegance.

And he's gotten pretty good. Not just based on this, but looking at everything else AI is doing I would not want to just be starting an acting career at this point, I suspect Hollywood is about to see if it can make movies without $20M plus actors and actresses...

For the most part, what do I care if a bunch of liberal douchebags - oh it's Easter.

I don't care for his characters or their fates.

Posted by: fourseasons

What an imbecile! As the incarnate Son of God, Jesus possessed perfect knowledge of all sins and personal wounds.

He saw sin not as an outsider, but with divine clarity and human sensitivity. This includes every sin ever committed, from the original disobedience of Adam and Eve to the last sin at the end of time.

Our Catechism explains that Jesus accepted His death as redemptive, bearing our sins in His body (1 Peter 2:24; CCC 612). Theologians note that His greatest interior suffering came from the weight of humanity’s evil and separation from God — not because He Himself sinned or lost union with the Father, but because He took on the consequences of our sins in perfect solidarity and love.

Jesus experienced the full burden of sin’s evil through His divine compassion and holiness, without ever committing sin Himself.

I repeat - what an asshoe Guthrie is.

Because I stupidly agreed to work as a steward at shows this weekend before realizing what weekend it was, I went to Vigil Mass at my local parish last night. Knowing it was likely to be packed (it was), I got there at about 7:00 for the 8:30 Mass, which went on until past 11:00 because 25 people were being baptized into the Faith.

Got home, found a tire had gone flat, took care of the dogs and got to bed at 12:30. Woke up at 3:30 and couldn't get back to sleep. Drove Her Majesty's car to the show at 7:15 and worked the whole day. So a pretty exhausting weekend.

150 I love that Carl Kolchak wore a seersucker suit in Chicago. Because his first movie took place in Vegas and he wore one there. He had already been fired from newspapers around the country for reasons other than his taste in clothes. But the movie made that look iconic and the later producers were smart enough not to change it.

So he also wore a seersucker suit in Seattle and then, in the series, in Chicago.

168 156 I've seen a number of articles/memes covering how much the big blue shitties are paying for "the homeless" - generally significantly more then the average national salary per homeless person.

Given how much they are spending on each of them, they should all be in houses with good health care and lots of food to eat. Shouldn't have a care in the world.

And yet we keep being told that all of this money isn't enough for them....

169 Horatio Spafford wrote this song (it is well with my soul) after he lost his five kids (in two separate incidents), and his business ... yet kept his faith.

That is a strong show of faith, but I would be in doubt about what I had done wrong, to get such an outcome. I know a few parents that have lost kids, and it has been hard on them. They do cling to their faith though, perhaps largely because they really want to see their kid(s) again, or maybe they are stronger believers than I am, idk.

I bought a couple bespoke suits and a tux, this was way back, and it was from a Bankok tailor named Ravi. All fit quite well.

Ravi's no longer in biz but I tried one of those other online places, just for a dress shirt. I am tempted to get a seersucker suit, classic cut, meaning not skinny. I'm just not sure they'll make it with the right amount of drape.

There are plenty of places to go here where a suit would be the right thing to wear. I am way past retirement so we're talking restaurants, clubs, cocktail bars. The kind with a whiskey menu seven pages long.

"The word "Easter" comes from Old English Ēastre (or Ēostre), the name of a month (corresponding to April) that was likely named after an Anglo-Saxon goddess of the same name."

Since it is the tax season which is always a buzz-kill, may I suggest that if you are self employed or hired on as a contractor, that you put aside enough to pay your taxes every quarter to avoid those late fees and penalties for waiting until next April?
Many a new tutor has found out about penalty and interest that way, and was very saddened to also find out about payment plans to the tax man.

Watching Gutfeld! on YouTube, they're always poking fun at Tom Shillue at how extra-white he is. One time they teased him that he's so white, he looks like he wears khakis all the time, even to bed. 255 You can't make a deal with Iran. Trump's nuts to think those assholes negotiate in good faith.

Fox News Digital has an article up today that says the hardliners in the IRGC that have been whacked get replaced by the slightly younger cohort that stood behind them, and that each step you take into the ranks going younger and younger, you get assholes that are even more hardline and hate us harder and want to murder us more violently. For three generations they have been drilling the schoolkids all the way up to the post-docs with the hardline apocalyptic suicide worldview.

Artemis just did a course correction burn, very small, the first one they've had to do, skipping two previously scheduled ones. I think they said there was only 0.08% error in the TLI trajectory. It finally added up enough to make a course correction worth it.

And they will enter the Moon's Hill Sphere, otherwise known as the lunar sphere of influence in about 1 hour.

At the point, the Moon's gravity will be the dominant force on the spacecraft.

You misunderstand greatly. Trump and his people know very well that the Iranians will never negotiate. What Trump is doing is publicly demonstrating that he had no other option than to not only continue the war but to intensify it. Offering negotiations and seeing the Iranians refuse justifies everything he has done.

They always like your money. I would send them a little each quarter, then at tax time send a little more with an extension. Then file another extension with a little money. Then, comfortably short of end time, file and pay the rest.

275 I really hate dealing with the government. They did not send me all the stuff I needed to file my taxes. So I had to call them and got a series of recorded messages. I acted like I could not answer their questions until finally a person got on the line. I told them I could not file until they sent me forum x. Well after answering twenty questions they decided I was me and they would get forum x to me right away. Three weeks later the forum arrived. That is our government. This past Friday the government sent me a Census forum with a note "Your response is Required by law". Great.
