Religiosity Surges Among Young People, David French Says "You're Welcome"

Wait I don't think this has anything to do with cuckchair model David French.

Last September, Pastor Jason Howard of the Sanctuary Church in Pittsburgh saw a surge of young people flocking to his Christian congregation, the week after Charlie Kirk was murdered.

Howard knew that something had shifted. Yes, their congregation had always been predominantly youth-driven, but this was different. Lines began to form for their services. Public transportation was dropping off children by the busload from campuses across the city, and he knew that he had an obligation to expand. Howard teamed up with local college students at the University of Pittsburgh, and a revival called Pitt Purposes was held on campus, attracting about 600 students and led by members of the university's football team.

But the youth movement didn't pause. In fact, it grew, leading to last week's revival at the University of Pittsburgh's Peterson Center that attracted thousands and included hundreds of baptisms, most in pickup trucks.

Howard said that after Pitt for Jesus happened in the fall, they really wanted to do a follow-up. "Our hope was that we could do something big like at the Petersen Event Center," he said.

Jake Overman, the captain of the Pitt football team, reached out to Unite Us, a ministry that has partnered with university students to organize big arena events at college campuses. Overman, who might get drafted or picked up as a free agent in next month's draft in Pittsburgh, led the Pitt for Jesus movement last fall.

There is one catch: Unite Us almost exclusively does events below the Mason-Dixon line. Nonetheless, they secured the Petersen Event Center, located in the middle of the Oakland Campus, and Overman and an army of students began canvassing the local campuses here for turnout.

There are several universities and colleges in the Pittsburgh area: Carnegie Mellon, Duquesne, Robert Morris, LaRoche, Point Park, Carlow, Chatham, and Allegheny Community College.

By the time the event happened last week, over 5,000 young people were in attendance, with several hundred of them choosing to be baptized that evening.

They are not alone. For the first time in decades, faith in this country is growing, not retreating -- particularly among our young people, something that I've been reporting for the past year. In my rural parish, a Roman Catholic Church in the Diocese of Greensburg, our attendance has nearly doubled since last fall. Unless you get to Mass at least 15 minutes before services begin, you are left standing for the entire service -- and that is with added folding chairs in the back, along the side, and with the choir pews above us filled.

...

On Sunday, the Mother of Sorrows parish, which is also part of the Diocese of Greensburg, also had standing-room-only services on Palm Sunday. This has become the norm every Sunday. All three parking lots were packed, with cars straddling the grass leading down to the highway. Nearby Dick's Diner was also filled with parishioners.

The surge in Roman Catholic Church converts is being felt across the United States. Dioceses in the Rust Belt, Midwest, and Bible Belt are seeing record numbers of people received into the Catholic Church. Last fall, the New York Times reported that the Archdioceses of Detroit, Galveston-Houston, and Des Moines are also seeing significant increases.

...

"What we're witnessing right now is an answer to many years of prayers," he said. "Seeing this many college students turn to Jesus, and not just in a casual way but in a passionate way; willing to follow him wholeheartedly."

...

"I think overall young people are really looking for something real, and I think that this generation has really gotten to the point where the world seems out of control, and the world seems to be so subjective," Howard said.

He added that people are desperately looking for something absolute to anchor their lives in. "And, of course, God is the absolute that can anchor our lives."

Haz
@Michael_Haz

The TLM order that has been entrusted with my parish cannot ordain new priests fast enough to keep up with the requests from bishops to take over closed churches for parishoners who have asked for a Latin Mass. Wherever they are sent, the once-closed churches have filled pews several times, every Sunday. It's a beautiful thing to see and hear, especially all the newly initiated young singles, couples and families.

Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.

Our church sanctuary is stuffed to the gills during the school year with students from the local (Christian) university and our young families keep having babies, but since we are fairly new here we don't have a comparison.

He ejected, survived the crash, and is now safe in Iraq.

This is good news for the 48th Fighter Wing community at RAF Lakenheath—both crew members of the downed F-15E are now safe.

Also, the crew members of the second HH-60W helicopter involved in the rescue operation of the second crew member, which was shot upon by means of MANPADS, are also safe.

34 The one main effect of this I see (beyond young families that dwarf mine) is that the younger priests are generally...a whole lot better than the older ones.

Granted, my favorite priest, the former Monseigneur at the cathedral in Charleston, was in his 50s, but in the new parish, the younger ones are more observant of the rites and keeping to structure and keeping things feeling...holy instead of like some sort of festival where they are the star.

I kind of hate priests who were ordained in the 60s.

Better to leave their minds untainted until they have some level of bullshit detector and aren’t so trusting.

This. As someone who was queer and went to an evangelicals church, I tried unaliving myself the first time at 11 years old. Sometimes you need to protect your kids from certain kinds of harmful exposure. This is one of those times.

Okay so I looked up a Unitarian Church in my area and there's one close by. I read through the whole website and watched last week's sermon. I really liked what I heard. I grew up in a religious household but it never stuck, too much curiosity. I think this will be a really good start for us!

58 Remember:
David French's wife is just as nasty, duplicitous and vile as he is.

In 2024, she was part of a group, with millions in funding, doing "training" and outreach to evangelical churches.

It was, on the surface, nonpolitical.

But the message they were pushing, with free training, pamphlets, posterboards, and talking points, was "good Christians must support--nay, demand!--a total, federal, nationwide ban on abortion."

With heavy implication that, if a candidate (cough, cough, Trump) refused to call for a total, federal, nationwide ban on abortion, good Christians must not--can not, lest they damn their eternal soul--vote for that candidate.

Even if it means the most radical, pro-abortion candidate in history would win.

Posted by: People's Hippo Voice at April 03, 2026 02:55 PM (HXT0k)

59 NeverForget the initial objection to Trump from NeverTrump was that Trump could not be a trusted steward of conservatism and that NeverTrump were too conservatively conservative to trust that he wouldn't govern like a liberal. They then transmogrified it into some general objection of his "character".

How they got away with this mystifies me but then deception is the Left's nature.

71 We're expecting an overflow section at the first service on Sunday this week.

I'm part of the tech team and we'll also be livestreaming the first service for those who can't attend in person.

I expect a noticeable uptick in livestream traffic.

My pastor knocked last week's message out of the park. He's going to have to find a way to make his Easter message even better.

The first thought that came to me on seeing him was that I'm seeing a serpent. A smooth talking serpent. He reminds me of a line from Tolkien where Frodo first meets Strider and says that he looked foul but felt fair. Talarico perhaps looks fair (not to me but to others perhaps) but definitely feels foul.

It was taken from the show/comic Invincible, and specifically with Omni-Man, now labeled as "The Constitution" pummeling Invincible now labeled as "Populist legislation"

Now why is this dumb? Omni-Man is a Superman like character but from an aggressive alien empire. He is sent to earth to conquer the planet. He has a son with an earth woman who is...Invincible...who has a similar power set but wants to save the Earth's independence.

In the story [SPOILERS!] Invincible eventually wins over his father to his way of thinking, now if we take it back to the meme it completely subverts it. The Constitution, or at least judicial interpretations of it, is being controlled by a hostile alien force but given time the Populists will win out and get them to think their way...

BREAKING: According to CENTCOM, the second U.S. Air Force CSAR team sent into Iran to rescue the crew of the downed F-15E of the 494th Fighter Squadron has successfully located and rescued the second crew member.

He ejected, survived the crash, and is now safe in Iraq.

This is good news for the 48th Fighter Wing community at RAF Lakenheath—both crew members of the downed F-15E are now safe.

I don't know if it's right or wrong and am certainly not trying to convert anyone but I realized that as to religion, I am not trying to achieve Heaven or avoid Hell. My primary purpose is to bring peace into my own life.

225 But to go with that Islam is a shame culture. You're not "guilty" until somebody catches you. Nobody has the authority to challenge Allah, so Allah can literally do whatever the hell he wants (and good on him for that, some of them think--because it's about power.)

Christianity is about refining your behavior to be right with God, (regardless of unmerited grace and all that). To do less harm, to do more healing, more serving.

Jesus is (I think) singular in presenting the model of "servant leadership". Islam is still in the pre-Christian power mode.

227 What a beautiful post to read, Ace.

I would say this even if I were not a new convert to the Roman Catholic church. After a lifetime & generations of Presbyterians (conservative).

I will never, ever, believe THIS is the only church. It was my choice & the right path for growth in my faith. One I needed and many reasons unspoken (well, one is the non-traditional services and praise music of many Protestant churches and not how I was raised. Nothing wrong with it for others, however). I am no pious saint nor hypocrite.

Thanks be to God more young people are turning to Christ with standing room only! I see this in our parish. Lots of babies, including our baby granddaughter who has gone to Mass since she was 2wks old. Many fathers holding these lovely babies and it brings joy to me.

God bless you all this Easter weekend. He died without sin for us all to have eternal life & sins forgiven. And with this blessing, we have peace and joy in this life on earth. It's the only way for this in my belief. I have never known a moment since toddlerhood without faith.

Yeah, I crack jokes like a crazy buffoon, but am trying not to cuss as much!

Love to all, and to you Ace for posting this.

228 Every question in Islam gets answered with "because Allah said so". I'm not even kidding. That is the answer every time. Sometimes you have to drill past the initial response but that's the boiled down version.

And the ONLY thing that tells you that Allah is a benevolent god of "peace" is literally they just say it when they refer to him. I'm not kidding on that either. Nothing actually demonstrates it. The Koran just says it. He's most benevolent and loving. And you have to believe it. Why? Because Allah said so.

In the alternative, you make them where you feel comfortable and stay for the change you feel in your spirit. Mr. Sober hasn’t gone to Church since he was 16, he found a Church home where he is learning about scripture and feeling the love of God in an environment that resonates with him. That is something to celebrate, in my eyes.

The Christian construction of Islam's Allah is probably best described by Pope Benedict XVI's "Regensburg Address", which he delivered, surprisingly enough, at the University of Regensburg in September, 2006.

The address was mainly focused on the Christian challenge to Modernity, but it starts with a debate between a Byzantine emperor and a Turkish diplomat on how God engages mankind. The Christian argument is that God speaks to man through reason, while Islam places its faith in an unknowable, transcendental supreme being.

Muslim religious leaders went ballistic after the address was released, of course. Threats, demands, the usual howls of outrage. Might be worth a read.

282 It will also be interesting to see how young people manage to reconcile their evil political views with their newfound religion.

Unlike older Leftists who attend Church, this is a conscious decision, rather than a traditional adherence to something they don't really care about, but do because their parents did and their friends' parents did, and it's where they like to hang out once a week before supporting and encouraging every imaginable sin.

The two ideas are completely incompatible. These kids will either leave the churches quickly as they came, or the politicians from "both" Parties are going to have a problem.

283 Yes, it's lovely in a way.

BTW, I had one child, raised Catholic as all of mine were, attend the University of Pittsburgh for a Bachelor degree. It's a fine school. I also sent donations to an on-campus religious group that promised a safe place for all students around the clock to talk, pray, seek other forms of assistance, and not do anything to the exclusion of parents or guardians. I think they did a decent job.

But I told that child, as I told all of mine, to always come to me whatever they were dealing with, knowing the worse I could probably do would be to yell like a banshee for awhile. (That has proven true.)

I think some of this is taking hold through the Hallow app, Catholic by intent. Some through churches such as the Sanctuary Church in Pittsburgh and the Universal Unitarian churches that are all over the country.

Sometimes it seems the Roman Catholic Church & many Protestant churches have gone heavily into emphasizing social justice, community welfare, etc., and sometimes to the detriment of founding communities and, at times, eclipsing the proclamation of the gospel and the salvation of souls.

I worry it doesn't seem a solution to anti-Semitism.

284 Not a crime.
It is viewed as a clever trick used to get ahead.

Exactly! Arabs have always valued "cleverness", even the kind that cheats other people. This is cultural and predates Islam--yet Islam easily absorbed this cultural value.

This is why Tawriya and Taqqiya are kinda-sorta on the board within Islam.
