Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Saturday Night Club ONT - April 4, 2026 [D Squared]![]() ![]() ![]() Ingredients This year, organisers of the famous naked swim known as The Sydney Skinny say the beloved event will not go ahead. It's due to the escalating costs of permits and insurances that come with a giant skinny dip. The annual charity swim at Cobblers Beach in Middle Head has become a bucket-list experience for thousands of enthusiasts willing to step outside their comfort zone, all for a good cause. Founded in 2013 by well-known author and speaker Nigel Marsh, The Sydney Skinny quickly gained international attention. On previous years, participants gathered at secluded Cobblers Beach, a legally designated nudist beach within Sydney Harbour National Park, where they stripped down for the swim itself before being wrapped in the event's iconic sarongs on exit. The event was deliberately untimed and inclusive, with swimmers choosing either a 300-metre or 900-metre course. Over the past two years, proceeds have been donated to the Charlie Teo Foundation, supporting vital brain cancer research. Despite its popularity, organisers say rising costs and a growing list of permits, including National Parks, Harbour Trust, Maritime authorities and multiple insurances, have made it untenable. What kind of a world do we live in when costs for permits and insurance make it too expensive to swim naked? This is either a standard Japanese toilet or the toilet on the Artemis rocket: ![]() Sharon Osbourne called Lemmy shortly after he moved to the U.S. and offered him "X amount of money" (his words) to write songs for Ozzy's No More Tears album. He accepted immediately. "I wrote six or seven sets of words, and Ozzy ended up using four of them: 'Desire,' 'I Don't Want To Change The World,' "Hellraiser' and 'Mama, I'm Coming Home'." Unsurprisingly, these tracks make up the high points of Osbourne’s album, and that was reflected in sales. "I made more money with those four songs for Ozzy than in 15 years with Motörhead,” he said before adding: "How absurd!" ![]() The Club ONT Jukebox Hoppin' good tunes! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

The big Arizona white guy, Krivaks or something, has made three offensive fouls in a row and they've all been ignored or called against Michigan.
First was an elbow to the stomach of the tall skiinny Michigan center, and I think the original aim was a bit lower. The other two were just run into them and shove. Posted by: From about That Time at April 04, 2026 10:03 PM (sl73Y) 8

While admiring some dinosaur bones in the Museum of Natural History, a tourist asks the guard, "How old are they?"
The guard replies, "They are 73 million, four years, and six months old." "That's a rather exact number," says the tourist. "How do you know their age so precisely?" "Well," answers the guard, "The dinosaur bones were seventy-three million years old when I started working here, and that was four and a half years ago." My dear departed Dad would absolutely said this. I love this joke. Posted by: Pug Mahon, Trumpy can do magic at April 04, 2026 10:05 PM (0aYVJ) 17

I wasn't listening to the details the whole time, but apparently a waste water (urine) dump didn't do right somehow, so it's full or something. If interested, search on the history of zero-g toilets. They first attempted this in Skylab, and the Shuttle and the ISS. And the Rooskies had their own designs. Toilets in zero-g are a real pain in the ass. They also attempted a space shower on Skylab. They all decided that was far more trouble than it was worth, and haven't attempted another one since. Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at April 04, 2026 10:17 PM (w6EFb) 63

A basic problem with a "missing" ejected crewmember is that his chute system includes a position indicating transmitter AND a two-way radio. At least they did way back when I was training. If he really was missing, it could mean his body hit the ground with enough energy to destroy both devices or ???

It's Coyotes here. When the bottom fell out of the fur market and the Government stopped wholesale trapping and poisoning them, the coyote/jackrabbit ratio returned to its "natural" level.
Posted by: Idaho Spudboy Amen. There's a hawk on every electric pole, a fox in every den and a coyote down the holler. How you gonna eat rabbit? OK, her it is:
"Fox News can confirm that the 2nd crew member of the downed F15E fighter jet has been rescued and he and the members of the rescue team that extracted him from behind enemy lines in Iran are all safely out of Iran. That according to two senior US officials and multiple well placed sources in the region. The Weapons Systems Officer ejected along with the pilot when their F15E Strike Eagle they were flying was struck Thursday night (early Friday local time) in southwest Iran. The WSO used the SERE (Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape) training to evade capture, hiding on an elevated ridge after hiking away from the wreckage and putting out an emergency beacon.) US Special Operations rescue forces to include PJs (United States Air Force Pararescuemen (PJs) and many layers of elite rescue forces took part in the complex, layered mission to both find the crew member and also keep the Iranian forces who were hunting the American weapons system operator at bay. There are videos that have appeared from local eyewitnesses that show what appear to have been injured and dead Iranian members of the IRGC and Basij who were looking for the downed American crew member. contin
"Fox has learned there was fighting on the ground but no Americans killed during the operation. “It was a very complex operation to retrieve the downed service member,” a well placed source briefed on the operation told me. Many different branches of the US military were involved in the rescue. Fox News can confirm the A10 Warthog that crashed Friday was involved in providing cover for the rescue teams searching for the pilot. That A10 crashed in Kuwait (first reported by ABC Friday) but the A10 pilot managed to eject safely and was rescued. There was destruction of aircraft which have sensitive equipment on board, I am told, all part of this complex CSAR (Combat Search and Rescue) mission. The F15E was pretty much destroyed on impact. Two rescue helicopters were hit by enemy fire on Friday and crew members onboard were injured by enemy fire but managed to make it out of Iran. There were a lot of elements to this rescue, I am told." Posted by: runner at April 04, 2026 11:53 PM (GD0B3) 305

Posted by: Idaho Spudboy at April 04, 2026 10:50 I wonder if coyotes were partially responsible for the disappearance of pheasants on the family farm here in N IL. I farmed from 1980-2012 and there were pheasants and no coyotes, or few, at the start and by the end it was reversed. From your favorite President:
"President Trump @POTUS: "FROM PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP WE GOT HIM! My fellow Americans, over the past several hours, the United States Military pulled off one of the most daring Search and Rescue Operations in U.S. History, for one of our incredible Crew Member Officers, who also happens to be a highly respected Colonel, and who I am thrilled to let you know is now SAFE and SOUND! This brave Warrior was behind enemy lines in the treacherous mountains of Iran, being hunted down by our enemies, who were getting closer and closer by the hour, but was never truly alone because his Commander in Chief, Secretary of War, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and fellow Warfighters were monitoring his location 24 hours a day, and diligently planning for his rescue. At my direction, the U.S. Military sent dozens of aircraft, armed with the most lethal weapons in the World, to retrieve him. He sustained injuries, but he will be just fine. This miraculous Search and Rescue Operation comes in addition to a successful rescue of another brave Pilot, yesterday, which we did not confirm, because we did not want to jeopardize our second rescue operation. .. A friend of mine growing up in Rockland County, NY was a 4-H kid and always raised weird critters like guinea fowl and obscure ducks/geese. He became a 4-H instructor as a adult and hatched dozens of Golden Pheasants for a couple years and let a bunch go in a County Park with ponds, grasslands, forest. They established a successful colony there. I wonder if they are still there.
Before anyone says "yeah, but" about invasive species, our Ring-Necked Peasants are not native, either. Brought over for hunting, then got established in the wild. Both pheasant breeds hail from Eurasia. Posted by: RIP John Capuano at April 05, 2026 12:14 AM (oftw2) Posted by: Don Black at April 05, 2026 12:14 AM (ZxPkt) 348

El Donaldo reiterated his Monday deadline for Iran this morning. It's assumed that major infrastructure and economic targets would be part of "hell" brought to the regime.
But "escalation" is not exactly correct. Iran has been hitting, or attempting to hit, every kind of economic and infrastructure target in the Gulf nearly since the start. Their crude systems can't penetrate Israeli defenses except on rare occasions and have mostly turned to cluster-bomblet payloads, need to be intercepted at higher altitudes but in any case are generally ineffective. Oil and gas production and refining and transportation, desalination, etc have been targeted by Iran for weeks now. My glorious MSM blackout means I'm not sure, but I sense that this fact has not received much emphasis. So if/when the US "escalates" in this fashion, it will be a response to something the Iranians started weeks ago. Which will be a typical false framework of the story. One public affairs change I would make regarding the war (and immediately had this observation at the outset) would have been some sober reminders that there will be losses in a war, the enemy has a vote and has capabilities, this is not a video game or stupid fiction, etc. Unless I missed it, this key (and in the past SOP) element has been absent.
It complements and does not contradict the main emphasis on US focus and professionalism. Doubt many in uniform are taking anything for granted, but much of the public is quite susceptible to hysteria or despair at any setbacks. A fundamentally unserious populace (alas) needs to be managed. Posted by: rhomboid at April 05, 2026 12:29 AM (U/Byj) 379

And unless I missed it, we still don't have any official confirmation of how the F-15E came down. Everyone's saying "shot down" but that's by no means established.
And someone noted earlier (I hadn't seen this anywhere) that the crashed aircraft had been heavily bombed. SOP where any sensitive gear or info are involved. You know, it might be fun to take some old worn-out jet fighters, fit them with basic remote-control like drones have, and stuff the seats with realistic dummies. Airplane and the dummies themselves loaded with explosives, rigged to detonate if messed with by locals once the "crash" and "ejection" have happened. Send a few of those into Iran, and train the population to give downed aircraft a wide berth.
Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at April 05, 2026 01:29 AM (I7pZ1) 441
Apparently 2 C-130s had to be destroyed because they couldn't fly out of the "base" (almost certainly just an expedient landing field, for which C-130s are designed) used in the rescue operation. Not clear how other aircraft could get out, but perhaps we'll know some day.
Though I hope it's a long time from now. Posted by: rhomboid at April 05, 2026 01:30 AM (U/Byj) 442
128 THere was a also a "burnt smell" coming from the Orion toilet at some point yesterday. Mission control was scratching their heads. They had them to do gas analysis near the thing to try to see just what it was emanating, but I don't know if that turned anything up. They mentioned a "mild" such smell was noted during testing on the ground they found in the logs. That is still unresolved, but the think it's nothing to worry about, just something outgassing a bit. I had no idea we found the second F15 dude. I spent most of the day in the garage making room for the latest acquisition and wasn't following the news. I didn't ride it home JQ, I actually shoehorned it into the bed of the colorado. I can't believe I got it to fit.

ROFL. I was sitting here with the Mission Control Artemis feed on in the background. I got to noticing a high pitched whine come from something and I got a-skeered some piece of hardware here was failing. After carefully listening to the actual computer case, it didn't come from that. Then I narrowed it down to the monitor, or some of the shit behind hind. High pitched little whine from some power supply dinky coil. Tons of such shit in the power adapters for the network equipment. Then I muted the sound. That was it. There is a background whine coming from that MIssion control feed. Sheesh. And yes, they rounded out the day with more space toilet talk. Terlet is a go for the rest of the night. They're having problems with the primary dump system apparently. It's too slow. Christina had to describe, in detail, what both the output from the primary and secondary venting nozzles looked like. The primary is "blowing chunks", she used some phrase similar to that. When the shitter's full, Clark, you've got to dump it, and that's a slow process. They've got a go to use the thing all night, but apparently with some precautions that were discussed on the private channels. Probably TMI stuff involved, maybe. Posted by: JQ at April 05, 2026 02:21 AM (rdVOm) Yeah the tires were too old. The bike is a 1997 and the tires are original. They got more dry rot than pelosi's face. I didn;t want to risk riding it. Back roads would have been ok, but the first 3/4 of the 50 mile ride was highway, and major truck route highway. Posted by: Berserker-Dragonheads Division at April 05, 2026 02:28 AM (snZF9) 486

So....I just discovered a way to send flowers to people in the hospital without having to pay exorbitant delivery fees.
Call up the gift shop, and if they have flower arrangements, order one and have it delivered to the patient's room! Best of all, you can usually get a pretty decent arrangement at a reasonable price. Can't believe I never thought/heard of this before.... Posted by: Teresa in Fort Worth, AoSHQ's Plucky Wee One - Eat the Cheesecake, Buy the Yarn. at April 05, 2026 02:57 AM (SRRAx) 494
This was something interesting I did not know. The Artemis crew is going to be the first human eyes to ever see Mare Orientale in sunlight. Look up the details, but that's a very young impact feature that's barely, just barely visible peaking on the western limb of the Moon over the full libration cycle. It's at the extreme limits of that, so seeing it edge on from earth the most possible is rare thing over a 6, if not 18 year cycle. Apollo did not see it in sunlight, because of the timing. Apollo 17 managed to get enough earthlight to get some dim images. Early orbiters did image it, but no human eyes have seen it in full on sunlight. They've got a photo up. Mare Orientale is just swinging into view here: https://is.gd/eye0q7 The Moon is upside down from our usual POV here in the north -- note Tycho is on top. Anyway, Mare Orientale is the little dark spot on the mid-right edge. Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at April 05, 2026 03:05 AM (w6EFb) 497
Gonna kick it this time, for sure! Damn cigarettes...
Thanks, Bers. I know you understand. Guess I need the full-strength patches for a longer while than "recommended" because that first day of stepping down *really* left me craving in a very bad way! Here we go again. Too bad the gum & lozenges taste so nasty (and would be nearly as expensive as smoking)! Patches take the edge off, so that's nice. Note by "very young", I mean 3.7B years old. It's the younger YUGE impact basin, and the most well preserved. It's a reference for impact processes and all that. One of the planetary geologists, present at press conference who trained the crew on Moon geology and geography was nearly squeeing at the thought of human eyes seeing Mare Orientale for the first time.
