One thing the Art Thread has done is increase the awareness and appreciation of both the Christian and Jewish holy days. So today we learn that Passover and Easter, while celebrating two different events, are linked in the Spring, because of the supposition that The Last Supper was a Passover meal (although this is not universally agreed upon). This week it just so happens that Passover is on Wednesday and Easter the following Sunday, which comes very close to the timing of Jesus' and the Apostles' final days together.

Interesting use of color and subtle detail. The figures are not as realistic as the stonework but that adds to the sense of motion, like it's a busy family meal. Each person has their own posture and facial expression. There is a feel, at least for me, of relaxed family ritual.
Totally irrelevant and irreverent, but I had a flash of some of John Sloane's McSorely's Bar paintings. Probably the way each person is going their own way in a familiar group setting. Posted by: JTB at April 01, 2026 09:59 AM (yTvNw) 94

From previous - Oil is “fungible” in the sense of contracts on the open market.
But different types of crude don’t fetch the same price. “Benchmark” crude or WTI, or “light sweet” crude is a standard, that all crude oil probably aspires to. Lesser oils trade at a discount. Then there’s transportation costs. They will trade contracts and offset with $$$. Say for example, Alaskan crude. Good stuff, it makes more sense to sell it to Japan, then refine it in the USA. They’ll trade it for something else from somewhere else, that kind of thing. It’s a global market and reacts locally to global events. Posted by: Common Tater at April 01, 2026 10:00 AM (gxIQr) 103

In the 24 hour rule, the Pope is correctly not going to come to the aid of the Bulls player b/c the player doesn't want him to...
While the player ranted about Pride month, he didn't stop there. He said just as hateful stuff about Catholics. So, his best hope is that his Protestant minister comes out and speaks for him, b/c he rejected the Pope doing so... "In one video, Ivey slammed the NBA for celebrating the LGBTQ community as a defiance of Christian “righteousness.” In comments under another, he reportedly told one viewer that “Catholicism is a false religion,” adding that “it is not the true Doctrine of Christ,” and that it “does not lead to salvation in Jesus Christ.”" Posted by: Nova Local at April 01, 2026 10:02 AM (tOcjL) 108

Iirc, Saudi crude requires very little refining. Some of it would probably run OK straight out of the ground in an old school Diesel engine. Maybe run it through a cheesecloth first.
Venezuelan crude is heavy on tar. Good for Shingles and Asphalt, but cracking will derive significant gasoline and other products. Much more involved refining though. Posted by: Common Tater at April 01, 2026 10:03 AM (gxIQr) 111

Really? It was that dramatic an event? It was a celebratory meal, not a "dine and dash" affair.
The clown artist was a bullshitter in oils and canvas who no doubt smelled of boiled cabbage. Posted by: Krebs v Carnot: Epic Battle of the Cycling Stars (TM) at April 01, 2026 09:51 AM Historically it was kind of a dine and dash, though, wasn't it? "This is how you are to eat it: with your cloak tucked into your belt, your sandals on your feet and your staff in your hand. Eat it in haste; it is the Lord’s Passover."
Posted by: Exodus 12:11 at April 01, 2026 09:59 AM (2Ez/1) ===== This conflicts with current practice in which pillows are offered when seated so that diners may recline and tarry when eating, as rich people do. Was at a trivia night at a local haunt last night.
There's a table of folks that are there every Tuesday for said trivia night. They cheat, of course, and usually win every week. There's 8 or 9 of them, but they pitch a bitch any time their server auto-gratuity's them as a party of 6 or more, so they don't and the bastards tip like shit. I was walking back from turning in our answer and a girl was walking up to do the same, so I stepped out of her path, being courteous. A dude from that table passed me by, as if I got out of HIS way, made HER move out of his way, all while he stopped to talk at a table and blocked the walkway. If you have radiating pain , that is nerve root compression and can only be relieved by eliminating the compression. Sometimes it's as simple as it being temporary inflammation causing swelling that causes the impingement. Worse case scenario is you have severe stenosis that impinges the nerve even if not inflamed.
