There are several things going on, the "discomfort" in the strait, which will be resolved shortly, and how much is left to remove in Iran - ballistic missile production, removal of uranium, etc. The government situation is a little murky. Looks like Trump is willing to leave it in the hands of Ghalibaf ("very respected person", lol) , the foreign minister and maybe even Pezeshkian. willowed, but too good to miss. My opinion:
252 His whole strategy has been to remove the threat of Iran closing the strait. In other examples, he has done that (or proposed) using commercial interests and involving all parties. He did that in the Armenian-Azerbaijan war, and he proposed it several times in Ukraine. In Ukraine, it is mostly about resources and the solution is to have US profiting, as well as both sides, so that no one has an interest in blowing it up. The problem from the Strait is (1) how do you seize it from Iran -- well he is doing that now. and (2) how do you get the world to agree -- well having energy cut for several weeks is doing that. The whole shutdown of the strait was planned by Trump You heard it here first. Sorry, that posted before I cleaned it up.
I was saying that Trump planned a commercial corridor in the Strait, and the war, and shutdown, is ground prep for that. He planned the crisis to show the world that we can not live with the threat of Iran (or China) closing it as they please. In spite of the net zero insanity. So now they know -- they need the Strait. Now Trump will offer a solution. A solution he has been planning for years. Posted by: bob (moron incognitus) at March 30, 2026 01:38 PM (yFx9n) 31

There are reports that the US is laying mines, by air, at suspected Iranian missile launch sites in an attempt to deter more missiles, drones and rockets from being launched. If true, it would not be a "war crime" but rather a prudent measure to stop the missile attacks as the launch sites are nowhere near most populated areas.
And no civilians would be permitted near one. Unless the mullahs are using civilians as human shields. Posted by: Martini Farmer at March 30, 2026 01:43 PM (AkEZC) 55

The only way to secure the strait, long term, is a US base (or several) on the islands, patrolling and eliminating arms build up. Make it a mine/fast boat/missile/drone free zone.
The only way to justify that, is if US makes some profit. So we "insure" the shipments, and guarantee security. We take a cut of everything through the strait, that we control. The Gulf states will agree because they make their own revenue and the security of not having the mad mullahs is worth it. The rest of world will (now) agree because they have been forced to understand that they still rely on the strait. Iran will agree eventually too. Iran promises to set US troops on fire. Tehran vows to retaliate if Pentagon follows through on plans for weeks-long ground invasion
It blows my mind that anyone still believes boots on the ground is the modern day warfare. We’re seeing it in real time in Ukraine/Russia that drones absolutely annihilate ground troops. We’re walking soldiers literally to their death. Hegseth put US troops in significant harms way by refusing to adhere to the rules of war. Iran has little incentive to treat captured/injured US troops humanely if the US already refused to do so. Military You're going the wrong way! Turn around! We have a President who is a criminal and likely an asset of a foreign nation, And the commander of our military is an alcoholic white nationalist who thinks he can bring about the "End of days". We have a government sponsored militia (ICE) brutalizing our people at home and It's very likely that our elections will be rigged by republicans and their allies. We need our military here freeing us from tyranny not attacking oil again. Posted by: Intercepted Reddit Transmissions brought by the Intrepid AoS Liaison at March 30, 2026 01:52 PM (JCZqz) 110

Posted by: Oldcat ========= Its happened before. Iran-Iraq war. Truth is tankers are damn difficult to sink with anti ship missiles or drones. Just too damn big. The one sunk ship so far caught on fire and was drifting without a crew for 13 days. And the Iran-Iraq war did not have the US out to blow up minelayers, rocket launching sites, and shoot up their fiberglass speedboat flotillas with A-10s. Only educated people can be this stupid. OT: Way to solve current DHS standoff.
Move ICE Back to DOJ. Move any ICE funding from the BBB there, and have DOJ oversee ICE like they oversee FBI (and like they USED to oversee ICE before DHS was a thing). They have EOIR (aka the immigration judges) already, so it's even streamlining the whole civil legal process. I don't think this is entirely legal, but if Congress isn't funding something, they effectively have closed DHS, so certain functions deemed necessary maybe could be moved....sorta legally. And we're already doing this at Department of Ed even with funding. Dems would NEVER refuse to fund DOJ (lawyers make too much money and support Ds too hard), so we'd be out of stand off land. Search tells me that the answer is 3/22. Posted by: I used to have a different nic at March 30, 2026 01:59 PM (ExV1e) Get this in before we nood: That is correct. According to Stuart Varney, the earliest Easter can fall is March 22 but it's extremely rare event. Last time was 1818 and will not occur again until 2285. I don't believe I'll be around for that. And the ones that don't explicitly push it, strongly imply it by the A + B must = C of "A, it was hit + B, the US was targeting the base nearby = C, so the US must have hit the school." Posted by: Anonymous Rogue in Kalifornistan (ARiK) at March 30, 2026 02:26 PM (QGaXH) Well, the border here is a sea border, running through the middle of the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Is kind of convoluted, for hystorical reasons. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at March 30, 2026 02:30 PM (5ZXSK) 270

261 So it's a food thread?
Posted by: Just got here at March 30, 2026 02:28 PM (2Ez/1) Well, Safeway has 99 cents/lb bone in turkey breast (which isn't even that cheap at Thanksgiving), so I'm trying weeknight turkey tomorrow. Gonna crockpot it and see what happens (planning to leave skin on, season under skin and then pull skin off to crisp it once turkey rests...and see what the crockpot juices can do for a gravy)... I got citrus, herbs, olive oil, and plenty of s&p ready for the job, and I want to see how doable and tasty it is (b/c it might become a future teen youth group meal if it's at least half as good as my full baked bird - it just needs to meet weeknight standard vs weekend standard)... I've found in my travels that food quality and taste isn't so much what region your physically in, but rather the quality of the ingredients and recipe.
I've had some horrible, watery biscuits and gravy in the south. I've had limpdick tasteless cheesesteak in Philly. My grandmother made some truly excellent biscuits and gravy. She was German to the core and the southernmost she ever went was maybe Atlantic City. Posted by: Elric The Blade at March 30, 2026 02:33 PM (iFTx/) 286
