I really like the painting and the scene. Bogolyubov (glad I don't have to pronounce that name) captured the quiet of a beach at low tide. The exposed timbers of the dock, the moist sand and the seaweed left behind the receding water shows that. The breeze is gentle (smoke from the chimney and the fluttering pennants) add to the feeling as does the father and son walking along. There is nothing hurried or hectic about the figures. I like the contrast of the worn wood of the work building and the rocks against the more elegant stone house in the background. Just enough detail to make the distinction clear. It's a pleasant, peaceful scene.
The artist is new to me. I looked up some of his other works. He does wonderful sea and landscapes. There is a hint of John Constable landscapes and the Hudson River School in some of them. Bogolyubov deserves more study. CBD, thanks. A nice painting and artist to start the week. Posted by: JTB at March 30, 2026 09:50 AM (yTvNw) 47

How do the Inuit do it above the arctic circle? Can't think there would be any good day in winter.
From their diet. Inuit and other Arctic indigenous peoples (often referred to as Eskimos) traditionally obtain Vitamin D through a diet rich in marine mammals, fatty fish, and raw animal products rather than sunlight. Key sources include seal liver, blubber, salmon, and whale skin (muktuk), which are consumed raw or boiled to maximize nutrient intake. Posted by: Archimedes at March 30, 2026 10:05 AM (Riz8t) 73
"Chowderhead" is an informal, derogatory term for someone considered foolish or stupid. It originated as a mispronunciation of "jolterhead," an old insult referring to a blockhead.

> Inuit and other Arctic indigenous peoples (often referred to as Eskimos)
The Inuit only live in Canada. The Inupiat in Alaska are fairly closely related, but do not generally call themselves "Inuit". The Yupik in Alaska are not Inuit, and do not like being called that AT ALL. Historically the groups did not get along. Yes, the languages are related, but it's like calling a Spaniard "French" because they both speak Romance languages. In other words, it's a "might get your ass kicked" thing. Stupid "woke" white Canadian communists push the narrative that all Eskimos are "Inuit", and that the word "Eskimo" is racist. They are not and it is not. Did they bother asking the actual people what they wanted to be called? Surely you jest. Posted by: Rodrigo Borgia at March 30, 2026 10:10 AM (IG3/x) 86

Inuit and other Arctic indigenous peoples (often referred to as Eskimos) traditionally obtain Vitamin D

That would help deter bot accounts, but not determined trolls.
Posted by: Chairman LMAO at March 30, 2026 10:47 AM Trolls lack the patience and work ethic to get around even a free account. For each account they have to go create a fakemail account, then work through 10 rounds of disqus crap, then wait two days, to create an account they can use on one thread before being banned and having to start over. What you want is max pain for min gain. Trolls are lazy and stupid by nature. Posted by: toby928(c) at March 30, 2026 10:51 AM (4NO2D) 213
