LG is shipping 1Hz display panels for laptops. (PC World)

That is they can refresh as little as once per second, if you're just sitting there looking at a static screen - or up to 120Hz if the display is active.

Apple's new MacBook Neo has a phone CPU that uses as little as 4W, but still has fairly mid-tier battery life. What's draining all that power?

The panels are already shipping as the default choice in Dell's latest XPS models.
SK Hynix, the third of the big three memory manufacturers, is planning a US IPO this year to raise funds for expansion. (Tech Crunch)

The share offering is expected to be small - about 2% of the total stock - but will value the company at $500 to $700 billion.

SK Hynix reported 50% revenue growth and 100% growth in profits in 2025 - and only the last couple of months of that were in the DRAM Apocalypse - so I don't think they'll have a hard time finding buyers.
Meanwhile production constraints at TSMC are pushing customers to look to Samsung for their chips. (WCCFTech)

Not that TSMC is having problems, just that demand is outstripping supply.

Recent reports of open-source projects - including Linux - being overwhelmed by useless AI-generated bug reports have ameliorated into useful AI-generated bug reports.

Nobody knows exactly why the change, but this is something I am personally in favour of. Testing in-depth is time-consuming and painfully boring, precisely the sort of job you'd give to an junior developer with clinical OCD in the good old days.

Now everyone has a junior developer with clinical levels of OCD.

I’m afraid our summer is going to be a lot of that as well. Finding water and grass here could impact a lot of local ranching. April is usually wet here but the long range forecast is warmer than normal and dry. It’s weather.

Thanks for the prayers for L. And K yesterday. Her tests came out fine, K had a successful hip replacement surgery and is going into rehab. Now, I would appreciate prayers for another L, a member of my congregation. He was rear ended yesterday and ifs feeling really sore.

Oh yes, I met a lovely lady at the RCC yesterday. She gives us palms for our little church for Palm Sunday. And I give a little donation to their church . She told me she is 81 ( I told her she looked about 70 What a lovely person to have serving as secretary . That was one way I saw God at work yesterday

I'll run by the tire store this morning. Their site advertises Continental tires in my size for $174, while TireRack has $220, and my mechanic was quoted $200/ea. for Kellys. I don't know if he's ordered them yet; I'll call first thing on Monday. I'd hate to spend that if I can get the car an even better pair of round black things for $50 less.

106 Tiger Woods has problems, no question on that point. I'll remember him in the golden years of his career when he put golf on the world stage. Watching him golf was magic. Was there something in his upbringing, or lack of something that keeps him from handling life? Who knows. Watched him play a couple of days ago in the TGL event, he looked like he was in physical pain and very uncomfortable. He needs to give up on believing he can be what he was in his 20's. I hope he finds help for his issues, mental & physical.

I've driven that road many times. It is one lane each way, slow speeds. His house is barely a quarter mile from the wreck site, so he was probably coming or going from there. Thank heavens no one else got hurt.

Pain medicine addiction is common nowadays. Our own Rush Limbaugh suffered from a similar problem. Any golfer can tell you the game is hell on your back, and Tiger also has the injuries from his LA accident to contend with. He's previously gone to a rehab center but that obviously did not take.

142 My saintly mom is cursed with chronic pain from arthritis in her neck, and her doctor reluctantly put her on morphine as a palliative. He fretted about the addiction problem, but decided a bed-bound dementia patient is probably not going to be a criminal supporting a drug habit. Its been a blessing. But, short of conditions like hers (and certainly for Tiger) pain meds are a huge addiction threat.

Our church prints any birthday over 80 in the bulletin, the pastor mentions it from the pulpit, and it's noted in the monthly birthday list. Since our county in one of the oldest-living in the US, at least two are mentioned every week. But we also have a lot of baptisms, so we're pretty well-balanced.
