A waffle is an ideal tool for delivery of maple syrup and butter. A sponge, as it were. Posted by: RI Red Indeed. Also suitable for ice cream. And various breakfasty fruits and syrups, even yogurt as long as there's enough syrup. More than half a century ago, MiladyJo and I made our first domestic purchase together, a waffle iron from Montgomery Ward's. Tried to use it recently and discovered the heating element now cooked the counter it was sitting on more than the waffle. Sad. What’s “Civil” about government authorities confiscating cash?
I get it, they believe the currency is the product of illicit or illegal activities. But the Western legal theory is a presumption of innocence. They have to prove you’re guilty. Posted by: Piper at March 27, 2026 10:37 PM (Wmg4n) ................................... If it's a solid pill, maybe scored, you could cut it in half when she's not so dizzy. Or if pain hits later tonight or in the morning. She may not need it (hope not). Ice packs for 24hrs kept our sons from any swelling, which prolongs healing and adds to discomfort. Soft ice packs to each jaw and tied with a wrap or dishcloth. They looked like loons (or bunnies) but cooperated. Had them done on the same day. The younger was a pale, sleepy and groggy mess from anesthesia. Older guy was giddy and yappy and bled more (I told him this and he slept). Did pretty well after the first day. By HS they were both taller than me so my husband had to walk both to bed. Ice really is awful at first but then numbs. My kids's baby sitter did not use ice and it showed, so that was what I reminded them about. Posted by: ChristyBlinkyTheGreat at March 27, 2026 10:46 PM (WONhk) 98

Piper, when my youngest was 16, he had all his wisdom teeth removed. They gassed him pretty well, I think, because on the WAY HOME from the activity, he asked me when he would have his teeth pulled! He did OK afterward, but he was always trying to show his mom how tough he is.

Acetaminophen is not poison when taken in the recommended doses, but it can be toxic and lead to serious health issues, including liver failure, if taken in excessive amounts. It is important to follow dosage guidelines to avoid acetaminophen toxicity. Acetaminophen overdose can lead to severe liver failure and death. Also, staying at the Historic Anchorage Hotel, built in 1916 when Anchorage was a fart in the wind. Very nice room, built in bar, king bed, nice view of 4th avenue where the sled dogs run for Fur Rendezvous and Iditarod, and the mountains. Walking distance to the theater for tomorrow. Yes, really that was the plan. Morton-Thiokol was ecstatic about this, as one might imagine. As sole source provider of the SRBs, they were a bit touchy anytime it was suggested that maybe other firms should be allowed to bid for booster production. This was a controversial issue, and “some say” a factor that led to NASA management having more leverage than they ought to have had over Morton-Thiokol, pressuring them to sign off on cold weather launch. My conspiracy theory, it’s a trope often repeated, that Americans “lost interest” in space soon after Apollo 11.
Well, if your intention long term is to cripple the US Space program, that’s exactly the kind of thing you’d want put out, (and what you would want the propaganda outlets to parrot). They lie about everything else, why would this be any different. From a purely engineering standpoint, Apollo was a dead end. Admirably suited to accomplishing JFKs mandate to land on the Moon before the decade was out, it was not well positioned to do much else. They could have made use of the heavy lift capacity of the Saturn V however. The early plans were for over 100 launches, that’s why the VAB has 4 huge doors and 4 bays, they had the capability to really crank them out. Only 12 were built, something like that. But as mentioned above, all the funding got cancelled and they went with the stupid Shuttle, dicking around in LEO. Had things gone as they were envisioning, we'd have long had a Moon base, there would've have been manned landings on Mars, and right now, we be having manned mission to the Jovian system. Artemis 2 is a repeat of Apollo 8 (but not as much, because they aren't going into lunar orbit -- as it is, the SLS doesn't have the capacity to put Orion in low lunar orbit -- not enough fuel reserve margin). Now, Artemis 3 was supposed to the landing. But Isaacman, trying to get this thing actually viable and not the boondoggle it's becoming, has retooled Artemis 3 to be, you guessed it, a repeat of Apollo 9. They will test the lunar lander (a modified Starship which hopefully Elon will have ready in time) in LEO. The landing will have to wait til Artemis 4. Anonymous Rogue, I didn't realize the Honda Point incident was on Vandenberg reservation, and didn't know any remnants of the ships remained.
I visited Vandenberg on a work trip in the late 80s. The hook, in fact, was the alternative Shuttle launch facility, plus SDI stuff. Our first meeting was with the base commander. After about 15 minutes of enthusiastic, detailed descriptions of the site's incredible ecology and wildlife (all true), I started to think - is this the Air Force, or the National Park Service? Afterwards we all had the same joking thought. He did eventually did get to the SLC, Minuteman testing, and SDI stuff. Have only been back once - riding the Solvang Century event, had a serious muscle problem going up the yuuuge grade on the base, and dropped out at mile 60. Oh - and several dinners at Hitching Post #1 in Casmalia, which is on the reservation, near the golf course. Highly recommended, for anyone passing through that gorgeous part of the CA coast. >> I wouldn’t either. I said Apollo.
Gotcha. In my mind, they just go together. There's an interesting story about Lunar Orbit Rendezvous. The other options were Direct Ascent (while shebang goes to the Moon and lands directly) and Earth Orbit Rendezvous (at least two launches to LEO, Moonship is assembled in LEO to land on Moon). The NASA top brass favored Direct Ascent mostly, and wasn't too keen on LOR at all. One of the engineers went out on a limb and bypassed the chain of command to advocate for LOR. He realized that was the only way we could do it before 1970. Direct Ascent was going to required a much bigger rocket (Saturn C-8 config at least, if you want to look the history of that. Another big one was the Nova class rocket idea). Do you want to go to the Moon or not? That was the question that settled on LOR. Yes, John Houbalt iirc. He was “passionate” as the kids say, about LOR.
Nobody thought this was a good idea. He wasn’t the first to suggest it, but he made it happen. They had to talk Wehrner and his re-formulated Peenemunde working group there down in Huntsville on the deal, too. Eventually, they gave something like a two hour briefing on how their idea was better, but ….we’ve decided to go along with LOR. What amazes me, is at some point somebody has to “freeze” designs, and say “this is it”, because prototypes have to be built, contractors have to know what they are building, how will it fit to the other parts?, etc. Posted by: Common Tater at March 28, 2026 12:25 AM (j92eC) 218

Who cares about Cuba?
The Iran mess needs to be settled, the sooner the better. Let's get on with what we have to do and get the f*ck out of there. Cuba is back burner stuff. Posted by: Case at March 28, 2026 12:59 AM (pvf3X) 244
>>> What amazes me, is at some point somebody has to “freeze” designs, and say “this is it”, because prototypes have to be built, contractors have to know what they are building, how will it fit to the other parts?, etc.
Posted by: Common Tater at March 28, 2026 12:25 AM (j92eC) There are design loops. Initial preliminary sizing goes into design of long lead castings/forgings and the like. Then you iterate on everything else in loops. Mass properties, structures, aero, systems, manufacturing, all converge on reality. The closer you are to reality at the later design loops the more expensive the changes. So you make big changes early and tiny changes at the end managing margins as you go. Or you miss something and a big change at the end kills the whole program and maybe the entire company. Posted by: banana Dream at March 28, 2026 01:01 AM (l5dSG) 245
