Marjorie Taylor-Greene's bestie Medea Benjamin of Code Pink organized the support-the-tyrants tour.

Cuba suffered mass power outages throughout the weekend as activists filmed for social media

Far-left activist groups and personalities flocked to Havana, Cuba, this week in an effort to protest the economic sanctions imposed on the country by President Donald Trump's administration.
The far-left group CodePink sponsored flights to the communist-led island, and the group was joined by Isra Hirsi, the daughter of Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., and left-wing Twitch streamer Hasan Piker, an ally of democratic socialist New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani. The group has faced heavy backlash for staying in expensive hotels to meet with government officials even as Cuban residents go without electricity.

Some delegates in the "Nuestra America Convoy," including Piker, were staying at the 5-star Gran Hotel Bristol Meliá Collection and similar resorts. Piker defended the move on social media, saying U.S. law required that they stay at the ritzy hotels.

LOL, sure.

"The American government makes it illegal for Americans to stay wherever they want when they're in Cuba," Piker told his followers. "They have to stay in what they've declared as 5-star hotels."
The claim received swift pushback on social media, with an X Community Note saying that U.S. law only prevents Americans from staying at venues owned by the Cuban government or its officials.
CodePink says it delivered thousands of pounds of aid to Cuba as part of the trip, which was organized by Cuban politician Mariela Castro and a nonprofit called Progressive International, according to the New York Post.

"Thousands of pounds of aid" = thousands of pounds of water and rice with a total value of a couple thousand dollars.

The group's arrival to Cuba, and subsequent flood of social media videos, came the same weekend that The Cuban Electric Union announced a total blackout across the island on Saturday.

According to sources, the wedding attendees invoked the teachings of Mao Zedong, the 20th century Chinese Communist Party leader who ruled China with an iron fist, inspired by Karl Marx and Vladimir Lenin, and they discussed how to mobilize the masses to wage a Maoist "People's War."
"The revolutionary war is a war of the masses," Mao said in 1934.
Many were themselves relics of the Cold War, growing up before the Soviet Union was dismantled in 1989.
A monthslong Fox News Digital investigation pinpoints the Jamaica wedding as a starting point for launching a network of organizations that is today waging a new "People's War" on America, aligned with the Chinese Communist Party's geopolitical ambitions to eclipse the U.S. as a superpower through economic programs like the "Belt and Road" initiative, realizing the vision of China's ideological godfather, Mao, through trade partnerships, economic deals and pro-China propaganda.
National security experts call it cognitive warfare.
Over almost a decade, Fox News Digital has learned, Singham and Evans have activated a global network that now numbers an estimated 2,000 hard-left organizations that parrot anti-U.S. propaganda supporting autocratic regimes leading China, Russia, Iran, Cuba, North Korea, Venezuela and Gaza. According to the data, Singham created a base from which the U.S. is now one of the world's most prolific exporters of radical pro-China communist ideology. Singham and Evans didn't respond to requests for comment.

a lot of Cubans have family in the US sending remittances to them to survive economically. This is now mostly money, that has to go through the Cuban state bank where a large fraction is raked off, and is a major revenue source for the Cuban state.
In the past it was legal to bring in a certain amount of goods as well that were unobtainable in Cuba, but could be picked up cheap in Miami.
They know some of what they are missing, and that there is more than they can think of. The videos of newly arrived Cubans going to markets is heart breaking. Cuba has been destroyed to shore up the Castro family and their toadies, and they spend money to convince foreigners that this is the way to power and money.

He HAD been cleared to cross the runway, AFTER the jet was cleared to land on it. Then the tower told him to stop once he realized the danger, but the truck didn't, for whatever reason.

Looks like a very overworked controller, already dealing with another ground emergency, missed his mistake, but I don't blame him much here. The accident investigation will be agonizing for everyone involved.

I make a Cuban Black Bean recipe that's vegetarian (so ok for Lenten Fridays). No hamhock (normally the way I make any beans for rice), and it's really good. Supposedly authentic. The "sofrito" is what is sublime in an otherwise plain recipe.

Also have a pinto bean recipe with no meat that's good (supposedly American Indian). With chutney and honey.

There's a retaurant in old Tampa, Ybor City, called The Columbia. Beautiful place since 1905 and great food. Our eldest son, during his college tour years, lived in Tampa and we'd always go there.

Like his mother he enjoyed trying different universities without a care in the world. I was so enraged with him half the time I did not connect the dots that this might be genetic.

My parents had a condo in Palm Desert, California. They were scrupulous about tracking their time there to make sure they complied with the law and could not be considered California residents. When my dad died, my mom sold the condo, and California spent about 4 years hounding her for records of their visits, sales price, gains, etc. Because my parents are honest above all and record-keepers extraordinaire, California eventually wound up owing my mom some money. Suck it, California! The state is a pit bull; they never want to let a possible money-meal go.

I thought it was only recently us 'normies' could go to Cuba.

When I was working and had a security clearance we were told 'don't' even after it was allowed. Even if you're going to take a cruise, make sure the boat doesn't dock in Cuba, else good-bye clearance.

Same deal when they legalized pot in California....

They found loopholes -- that's the whole point. They traveled to Cuba even though it was technically "not allowed," partly just to thumb their noses at the US govt. I forget what the loopholes were -- something about "emergency humanitarian aid" or something, so each tourist would bring a Hershey bar and a pack of gum, and hand it to some random barefoot Cuban, and boom, it's a legal "relief mission."
