Dodie Stevens had her one big hit, "Pink Shoelaces," in the late Fifties.
"He wears tan shoes with pink shoelaces, a polka-dot vest -- and man, oh, man -- He wears tan shoes with pink shoelaces and a big Panama with a purple hat band!" When I worked at a small-town radio station in 1977, they had a huge library of albums and 45s, sorted by category -- Pop, Rock 'n' Roll, Country. For some reason they had filed "Pink Shoelaces" in what they called the "Race" category, along with songs by black artists like Otis Redding and Chubby Checker. Don't ask me why. Good morning! Kinda cool out on the patio this morning and it wont get out of the 70s today or the 80s this week. A perfect week for gardening and golf. And the capable garden assistants slept over last night so we're off to the garden center later today for accent plants and bird food.

'Tis 64 F. this am, high humidity, but almost no wind. Nice workout conditions. I'll walk/trot a couple miles after I feed the monsters, get cleaned up, then feed me.
I can't really blame Stirling for waking me up this morning. (Well, I *could*, but I won't.) He trilled and leaped up on the bed, but not across me and didn't kick me for once. But I swear that cat has a secret clock or watch he consults; almost every morning he does this at 3:45 am. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at March 23, 2026 05:21 AM (wzUl9) 25
Happy Monday everyone! So the morning got started with insomnia 2 hours before my normal wakeup time. But I did get a membership at a nearby gym and I will start today. Hopefully that balances things out.

So people that live in SF get mad when a tech company provides a bus for its workers to commute to the job, they get mad when a self driving car is in the area.
That place needs aerial spraying of Thorazine at this point. Or sweet cleansing fire. Either one is acceptable. Posted by: NR Pax at March 23, 2026 05:35 AM (OPGS/) 28
@24/Wolfus: I think it's a cat conspiracy. I remember ours doing much the same sort of thing at about that time in the morning. Mine would trill and lick my nose until I woke up enough to pet her. At least she'd zoom off and be happy with that and I could usually get back to sleep for a while.

Posted by: Grumpy and Recalcitrant at March 23, 2026 *** If only mine would be content with a little petting! Stirling is four years old, which is twenty in human terms, so he's energetic and lively. Last night Miss Linda brought over an issue of Cats, the long-ago magazine that became Cat Fancy and then Catster before fading away in '23. This issue was, brace yourself, from 2002. A slew of vendors and breeders had websites on *Geocities*, and back then phone numbers were more prominent in ads than web addresses. To subscribe, you mailed in one of those little postcards fastened into the binding of the magazine.
Breeds? Proliferating even then. Yes, Siberians were around in this country then. A full-page ad listing various breeders displayed an address for a Siberian breeder in Russia -- by the name, the one my late Tatiana's mother came from. I have a 1989 Cat Fancy issue -- Halloween, with a black cat on the cover. $2.50 was the cover price, and of course there were no email or web addresses. Posted by: Skip at March 23, 2026 *** Skip, can you get the Movies! Channel? It's 24-hour, and over-the-air. You can enter your zip code here to see if any stations are in your area: https://moviestvnetwork.com/wheretowatch/ They have a wide range of films, classics and more recent films. They have ads, but I think they try to run the films uncut, as they don't shoehorn them into a two-hour block; if the film runs longer, they don't start the next until it's over. And, you know, *free*! Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at March 23, 2026 06:00 AM (wzUl9) 41

If you own an iPhone, update it when it's available on you're phone.
Hacking tools named "Coruna" and "Dark Sword" that have been used used by governments and law enforcement have escaped out in the wild and are being used by Russian hackers, and now international criminals, to place spyware on your phone in order to download all kinds of data. It can be downloaded, and your phone compromised, just by visiting the wrong website. No user interaction (hitting a link, downloading a file, etc.) is necessary for the hack to work. Apple says the new security update should prevent this hack from working. iPhone spyware is everyone's problem now https://tinyurl.com/4be38hxn (Axios) or https://archive.is/h9OYm (same article) Posted by: SpeakingOf at March 23, 2026 06:32 AM (6ydKt) 54

From Governor Newsom's wife:
“I turned the lens on boys and men and looked at the boy crisis in America and how we were failing our boys and men with this sort of rigid notion of toxic masculinity,” So the majority of teachers are women, boys are constantly treated as defective girls and society doesn't support men but somehow masculinity is the problem.
