54 The “Work Reconsidered” in the title is John Wilde’s own drawing. This painting from 1950 is based on a “bridal” portrait that Wilde had made of his wife, Helen, in 1943. Its exacting realism and compressed perspective, as well as the subject’s pose and inscrutable expression, recall the Northern and Italian Renaissance portraits that inspired Wilde. He added surrealist details to these traditions: the butterflies on the woman’s body and head, the isolated food items on the table, and the moody landscape background create and otherworldly effect.

His style is called 'magic realism'. There may be some enjoyable examples in that style of art but, based on this one and some others, it seems to be an excuse for crappy and unattractive paintings.

I wonder whether a fair amount of modern art being touted and sold for ridiculous sums is simply the secondary market, and has very little to do with quality. Churning these works through the art world makes money for the dealers and the sellers.

115 Enough crapping on this. Here's some AI information on Mr. Wilde.

Work Reconsidered #1 — John Wilde

Background: John Wilde (1919–2006) was an American painter associated with Magic Realism and Surrealism. He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and later at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he became part of a circle of artists and writers interested in detailed, dreamlike imagery grounded in everyday objects and landscapes. "Work Reconsidered #1" is held by the Whitney Museum of American Art and reflects Wilde’s lifelong interest in combining autobiographical elements with fantastical, often satirical scenes.

Style: Wilde’s style is highly detailed and meticulous, with fine linework and careful texturing that give surfaces a tactile, almost engraving-like quality. His compositions often blend realistic domestic or rural settings with surreal, symbolic, or grotesque figures and motifs. He used a limited, often muted palette punctuated by sharper accents, and his work displays a precise draftsmanship influenced by printmaking techniques and classical illustration

His compositions often blend realistic domestic or rural settings with surreal, symbolic, or grotesque figures and motifs. He used a limited, often muted palette punctuated by sharper accents, and his work displays a precise draftsmanship influenced by printmaking techniques and classical illustration

Liberal "activist" Alyssa Milano decided to leave the country after all, according to a post on her Instagram page. Unfortunately, she didn't get far.

Milano was stopped near the Canadian border crossing in Barron, Vermont, for a routine check. Border Patrol officers discovered that the B-lister is still on probation in California for her little Tesla protest.

She's not supposed to leave the state, never mind the country.

"We informed her that she'd be turned away by the Canadians," said CBP Officer Jon Raebro, "We also informed her that while we don't handle those kinds of things, she's also committing a crime by being out of state."

Raebro says after a lot of crying, Milano turned her Mercedes around and headed home.

It's basketball for women. A quick fix. Easy cash.

You see the same type of psychology with streamers. I play video games all the time. Why not try to make money at it.

The thing is, in all of these... jobs. The good ones are actually gifted. Maybe at not playing video games, but being able to play a video game to a decent level while also keeping an eye on the comments and generating engaging commentary.

For basketball, the competition is fierce and at least back in the day the pros were like different animals. The smooth movements. Like pro golf players vs amateurs. Fred Couples was always my biggest example.

For the women, I won't get too much into this but it is all of these things but even more so and less definable.

Ricky Wassenaar, a 62-year-old inmate already serving 16 life sentences, carried out a calculated triple h*m*cide at the ASP-Tucson complex, targeting only convicted child s** offenders.

On April 4, 2025, Wassenaar st**ngled his cellmate before using a makeshift flail—a rock inside a laundry bag—to k*ll two more men in the prison mess hall.

192 Georgia just opened the door to drone-assisted hunting, and at first glance that sounds like a massive mistake in how states are handling wildlife. Gov. Brian Kemp signed HB 946 after it passed big, and the law now allows drones to be used to locate animals, removes some license restrictions for trappers, and even loosens rules on taking animals from motor vehicles on private land. This isn’t for deer, turkeys, or anything else hunters are picturing first, it’s for feral hogs, the invasive pigs tearing up Georgia agriculture, where officials say the damage tops $150 million a year.

218 "Teens" (also known as "youths") got busy in downtown Chicago last night.

Midnight basketball, anyone?

****************

Wild footage captured the moment hundreds of lawless Chicago teens overran the city and attacked random people in the street.

The mob was seen violently stomping a shirtless man and flying into a frenzy in videos captured during the takeover of the downtown Loop district on Wednesday night.

Several police cars were seen stationed nearby, yet they apparently failed to intervene, video showed.

Private security group Community Intelligence Unit (CIU) reported at least one teen was beaten unconscious, a number of vehicles were destroyed and several people were arrested.

The group also reported that bear mace was used during the melee, and footage showed several rioters appearing to use tasers to zap each other and innocent victims.

237 Work Reconsidered #1
John Wilde
Born December 12, 1919, Wisconsin
Died March 9, 2006 (age 86 years), Evansville, WI

Hopefully, this is meant to be a light-hearted kick off to the weekend.

>Worley Gig Arts and Culture
Modern Art Monday Presents: John Wilde’s Work Reconsidered #1, Jan. 2017

The “Work Reconsidered” in the title is John Wilde’s own drawing.

>Wikipedia: John Wilde was an American painter, draughtsman, and printmaker from Wisconsin. He spent the majority of his life in his home state and taught at The University of Wisconsin–Madison for over 35 years. Wilde is often associated with the Magic Realist and Surrealist art movements in the United States.

An interesting artist but would pass.

I own a piece of art from 1941 that measures 7'X9'. Art Deco style fresco on oak panel. Enamel paint and lots of gold leaf. Louis Ross is the artist. He did lots of murals for the 39 NY World's Fair. Worked with Hildreth Meiere, who was one of the first to bring Art Deco to America. She was studying in Paris 1918-22. I rescued the panel from demolition in a building across the street from Madison Square Garden in 1982.

Can you use a drone to hunt feral hogs in Texas?
Yes, you can use a drone to hunt feral hogs in Texas, but only under specific conditions.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission has approved the use of drones to locate
feral hogs
for hunting purposes.

Here are the key points to consider:
Location: Drones can be used to locate feral hogs at night for hunters on the ground.

Permit: Hunters must obtain an aerial wildlife management permit to use drones for this purpose.

No Take: The use of drone-mounted weapons is prohibited; drones can only be used to locate hogs.

Ethics: The use of drones for hunting is subject to ethical considerations and must comply with fair chase principles.

There is no "fair chase" principles when hunting feral hogs on private land.

Shitty Day OT:

Lovely.

Yesterday, I received a text that US Bank had opened an account for me, and had linked the money transfer service Xe to it. I'm with a different bank entirely. Figured that it was the usual banking scam thing so I didn't click any links. Woke up this morning to find that someone had gotten into my ACTUAL bank account and did an ACH transfer of over $5k to some random fourth company. Checking further on my banks site, I found that US Bank and Xe had been added as linked apps yesterday, so I suspect they are involved.

Fuckers. Now I have to spend all day fucking around with the bank to get things fixed, and hopefully get my money back.

Welp, CoE keeps gaining by subtraction as the pews empty and this will end up severing more of the Anglican community abroad just like the pro homo troonism will. CoE, like the UK, is reaching the point of total destruction of their heritage because they are corrupted by the society hellscape that they helped create.

Only so long having an identity as NOT Catholic can be sustained while keeping the vestiges of its Catholic underpinnings.

Donald Trump publicly criticized Chip Roy, stating that he "has not done a great job."

Trump expressed his support for Elise Stefanik, who was running against Roy for the same leadership role.

Roy's past actions, such as voting to certify the 2020 election and criticizing Trump after the January 6 insurrection, have contributed to his strained relationship with the former president.

That is what fraud in government is all about--aiming the stream of government money at your friends, family, and your political supporters. GOPe does it too except they tend to stick to legal graft rather than blatant fraud.

E.g. MTG transferred about 60k of her campaign funds to her family for 'consulting' just before she retired. Same practice as Maxine Waters and a number of other High Plains Grifters do. Legal but unethical. Same as insider trading that MTG did before leaving. Legal but unethical.

Jay-Z is headlining the 2026 Roots Picnic in Philadelphia, marking his first major festival performance in years. (I can't imagine him appearing w/o family on that occasion.)

You probably can't imagine how Philadelphia is largely a hellish experience from almost mid-June through the 4th of July, dependent upon entertainment tastes and physical & mental tolerances, of course. All, imo.

The sad truth is that quite a few 'colorful' GOP members are actually pieces of shit that will stab you in the back in a NY minute if it affects their grift.

And that is the problem with narrow majorities taht the GOPe likes--it gives defectors tremendous bargaining power that does not exist when the margins are more like 20-30 seats in the House and 5-6 seats in the Senate. The Corrupticans have a lot less flouncing bargaining power in those circumstances.

Hugh was a pig. And he kept a vast video and film collection of him with his 'girls' and his guests with his 'girls' at the mansion for blackmail purposes.

Horrible tales of nasty practices inside the mansion. Example, "Pig Night" was a weekly Thursday night ritual at the Playboy Mansion where Hugh Hefner hosted prostitutes brought in by pimps for celebrity guests to engage in sexual activities. "

Hefner's kids supposedly destroyed the Hugh's archives in the vault after his death.
