Taylor Marshall was also a Protestant who converted. I keep seeing this Joshua Charles guy on X who is a bit younger and may relate better.
If things continue to calm down here, I'm planning on being and OCIA sponsor in the fall (that's how people come into the Catholic Church). I'm a convert, and was a sponsor in 2016. I really enjoyed it, but it took up a lot of time and my wife said I couldn't do it until 1) the kids grew up and 2) I was out of the Guard. So now I can!

He did earn his Friskies today. I had the door open and the screen door shut, and he was sitting, looking out. Suddenly he stiffened, staring intently upward. I know that look, so I followed his gaze. WASP! I whipped off my slipper and let the little arthropod have it. Then I tossed the corpse out, shut the door, and gave Stirling a handful of kitty treats.
This must be the sixth or seventh wasp he's spotted since his first summer.

Lol, I've been watching this Brit couple thats been riding a pair of low budget adventure motorcycles across the country. They started in florida in december and went across the south, through texas, eventually to vegas, where they decided to get married, and it just happened to be on valentines day the way things worked out with the trip. The whole way they saw all the cool stuff, grand canyon, monument valley, little towns, parts of rt66, all cool stuff in texas. The whole time, oh beautiful, people are great, look at this place weeeee. Then... then, they finally hit L.A. OMG the smell, homeless camps...wtf????? look at this crap arghhhhh, wtf are we doing??? lolol

At the library today I picked up a book on the Peloponnesian Wars, A War Like No Other, by the blog's old friend Victor Davis Hanson. His name on the spine caught my attention, and on a quick flip through I saw the name of one of history's greatest and most successful psychopaths, Alcibiades. I now have 3 books by him and will order more. Questions were answered.

Well, you can go up with the other communicants during Mass but simply cross your arms over you chest when you reach the priest. This is the universal sign that you are not receiving Communion and the priest will normally simply bless you and not offer you a host.

There is actually a class you go to, typically once a week that usually starts around September and culminates at Easter where you are fully acctptrd into the Catholic Church.
No Communion dry run, but you learn about the sacraments.

First granddaughter had a preK4 nursery rhyme deal today and we attended. Twinkle Twinkle Little Star was hers. None of the kids wanted to say their rhymes and I supported their decisions and moved on. Our girl, normally outgowing, burst into tears at one point. It was very emotional for them all for some reason as no one was demanding they perform from their little chairs.
I discovered I am quite popular with her friends who wanted me to play with them in their class. I sat on the little wooden chair and they yapped. The big haha was that she calls me Nana and they call me Banana and I am fine with this.
Cute kids. When it's time to go the girls hug each other like they will never see each other again. I asked one mother if this is due to being Friday or everyday. Everyday.
One kid, who appears dot Indian, had a strange green booger connecting from one nostril to another like the septum rings of liberal wimmen. So I probably have Delhi Disease now on top of barely getting over RSV (which has taken a toll and I am still not 100%). Otherwise he was cute and laughed because I can't say his name.
I hope I feel better tomorrow vs dragging like Biden.

Dead Man's Walk was chronologically Gus and Call's first adventure as Rangers, as young men. Then came Comanche Moon, which I think was just his teleplay and not a novel first; then Lonesome Dove, and last Streets of Laredo.

Well I'm just proud Spring is here. The weather was great. It was in the 70's the sun was out had a nice breeze.
Our winter was colder than usual, and I was sick of it from the get go. Only thing about Spring is sometimes we can get some bad storms. But today I just enjoyed it.

I did not have to attend classes long as I was baptized Presbyterian and most Protestant baptisms under The Trinity are recognized.
The unbaptized are in classes from fall to the Saturday before Easter. I did go to many classes because I liked them and the people I met.
I also discovered one of my many quirks in that I can no longer tell people's ages. Make friends with 20yr olds thinking they are son's ages, etc. Something might be wrong with me but it's too late now!
Need to go to bed early and get well and some energy. Shades of Hillary and getting thrown into a van dance in my head.

Thank you! DIL and I were hit hard. Others were fine. Normally she has the best immune system of all and she assures me the ups and downs are normal. Yesterday I felt I was 75% over it. Today was not a great day but I dragged myself to our girl's thing anyway. Probably looking haggard like Hillary.

Interesting in that I mentioned Scott Hahn today to a friend of our son's at the school deal. He remains in the liberal PCUSA church. He greeted me with a hug as for some reason he likes me and I told him I recently converted and a year ago I would not have considered it.
Mentioned Rome Sweet Home to him as well.
His books are very easy to read and he writes well.
Son's friend either listened and considered, or may not hug me next time. I am far from pushy or know it all, I stated personal feelings.
His daughter is our first grandgirl's best friend. For some reason he seeks me out to talk to and is a kind young man.
I did end our conversation in that everyone simply needs to find what they are looking for in worship. I know he feels like the PCUSA has gone too liberal (and they have, big time).
Find a church where you feel peace and that you've worshipped after church/Mass. I haven't felt that in a long time til the last half year.
Some of this is a mystery to me, yet I know the source.

Oddly -- or maybe not, considering Nawlins is a heavily Cat'lick city -- no less than three of the important women in my life have been of that faith: Mrs. Wolfus No. 2, the girl I dated in 1991, and Miss Linda herself. The first two were natives; Miss L. is not, though.

So I had this bug that my gut make about a quart quart and a half of something every 4 hours.
Well the first time I was in a 3 lane major intersection at the STOP light with a left turn that the next place to pull over was a quarter mile over the bridge.

The one with the full choir is very nice, often the second or third Mass on Sunday. Towards Easter some parishes especially cathedrals may have the Solemn Mass with all the rites and singing chanting. Holy water and incense.

Another odd thing is that I never set foot inside St. Louis Cathedral, despite growing up about three blocks away, until I was an adult. I didn't notice their Stations of the Cross plaques on the walls, all titled in French, until another visit years later. Hey, I didn't know about the Stations until I was grown up. Nobody ever mentioned that to me; I suppose they all thought I knew.

Bridge video is frightening, not the collapse so much as the big trucks passing close by one-another. Sill upset by an accident I had with one of those behemoths recently.
It was night and rainy. I changed lanes, didn't see him. My left rear door rubbed the rim of his right steering tire. Could have pitted me but I pulled away immediately. His lug nuts did a job on my door. No damage to him according to my wife.
We exchanged information and he took off. No police report. I called his office and spoke to his wife next day. It is a two truck company. She said they were not going to make a claim and I said neither was I.
Couple of weeks later my insurance co. called and the truck company is making a claim for some damages and the driver/owner is claiming injury. Fucking injury. My insurance is taking care of it. Been with them 55 years. Told me not to worry, they got this. Still nervous driving, will not drive at night again.

A dude I know is starting to head down that path. His whole life is crumbling around him now because he doesn't take care of things when they should be taken care off, and if he does he just does some half ass repair. He has a 2001 town car. they are known to lose balljoints, like pull out of the socket, lose steering, and then you die. he lost one at 10mph, needed a flatbed for $300 and then fixes it...one side only. Uh, asshole, the other side is as old, not gonna heal itself, are you frigging stupid?? He borrows the ball joint tools, goes through all that, and does 1 side. 2 months later...you guessed it, poof. His plumbing is leaking because he used black pipe on the hot water heater and its rusting. Well, now his health is failing, his moble home is shot, he has no money because he reused to get a job, maxed his cards, etc etc. He sends me 3 doom texts a day.

It was explained to me once ( by a Catholic who was a Brother, not my brother) that the Catholic dogma was based on the court system that existed at the time. You weren't going to talk to the King, so you sought a court member to ask your favor for you. The court member is a Saint. Jeepers, Bers... yeah, that's like BIL.
He had a F250 diesel pickup, pulled a 26' fifth-wheel trailer which he lived in...a real beaten POS that I helped him repair last year. Looked like he'd scraped *many* things on both sides. (all likely hit & run.)
Well, dumbass didn't check things like he should've & one of the wheels came flying off. He couldn't find it, perhaps didn't even notice it missing until stopped at a rest area. Cop patrolling rest area helped him disconnect & called a tow service for him. Too much $ whines bro-- so he abandons the POS trailer, goes to AZ.

He had a F250 diesel pickup, pulled a 26' fifth-wheel trailer which he lived in...a real beaten POS that I helped him repair last year. Looked like he'd scraped *many* things on both sides. (all likely hit & run.)
Well, dumbass didn't check things like he should've & one of the wheels came flying off. He couldn't find it, perhaps didn't even notice it missing until stopped at a rest area. Cop patrolling rest area helped him disconnect & called a tow service for him. Too much $ whines bro-- so he abandons the POS trailer, goes to AZ.

208 So here's a downer for everyone: I found out that the UK NHS is heating their hospitals, in part, by burning aborted fetuses.
I'm sure they expend extra fuel incinerating the fetuses. Yes it sounds nasty, but do you think Planned Parenthood murder centers do something better? I doubt it, I'm sure legally the fetuses are considered medical waste. In England they probably dual purpose the medical waste incinerators in some hospitals to run steam heat or something like that.

He texts me that he will come to my house in a few days. NO!!!! I told him "do not come here" (because I know he will try to mooch a place to live)

Not another peep until someone in CA found his phone in January. Truck "in the middle of the desert" they said. Clothes everywhere, apparently no one around for a while.
I contacted my State Police, wondering if foul play...

Oh, that canard has come around again. Human flesh has a negative BTU value. It takes more BTU's to boil off the water before what remains can burn and give a little heat. Even if fetuses were made out of 100% anthracite coal, which they are not, they are so small that they would not provide enough heat to keep a phone booth warm.
They probably have a heating boiler that does double-duty as an incinerator, because you pretty much have to incinerate "med waste" whether it is a fetus or Granny's gall bladder, because such stuff is an infection hazard. But it costs them in fuel, probably natural gas, to burn it.
I am in no way a supporter of abortion, but the notion that they are gleefully burning babies to keep the shop warm simply does not pass the smell test.

Yeah he is mechanical, but he is a butcher of the highest order. His motto is "I gotta use what I got", and there isn't enough space for me to explain how far he takes that. rust spot on a light green car? No problem, I got a can of shit blue I'll use. Don't go to the autoparts store for some close touch up, nooo, I gotta use what I got. He's building a classic car, a '62 dodge lancer. Its like the 3 stooges are doing it. He butchered every square inch of this car with mods so horrifying I can't explain them. The car originally had 2 headlights on each side. He removed the highbeams, replaced the low beam with a hi/low bulb to free up the space the high beam took up, because he made air intakes to bring air into the motor compartment. On paper, not a bad thing. BUT, its piped with PVC drain pipe, and the the frigging grill caps are from a shower drain. It looks absolutely 3rd world. Shower drain strainers sitting next to the headlights. Every inch of this car has dozens of these "greater ideas".

Looks like there was a river below. He might have been able to ride the cycle down, and have it take the brunt of the impact upon hitting the water. If he survived that, and avoided being hit by more falling debris, he might have been able to swim to shore. Might!

You would have a coronary if you saw this car. He rewired the whole car with 4 colors. Red, white, blue, black. No loom, no shrink tube. He used zip ties every 2 inches on the wires in the engine bay....fluorescent green ones. Not black, thats too easy. He didn't label any of the wires, has no clue what they are for. It took him 2 weeks to retrace what he did, and that was months ago, and still didn't label them. He ripped out the original dash gauge cluster, and made a new one from wood, using miss matched brands of gauges, so there is no symmetry. He cut out all the structure behind the rear seat and moved it back a few inches and rebuilt it with angle iron and bolts like a large erector set. The reason? The rear seats need new covers, so lets just lose the seats. Fucking Jay Assrack.

Yes. It arrived this morning. Then I told BIL to pack his stuff while I visited hubby at lunch time (our daily routine).
Then took BIL to phone store, to get his old phone cancelled and move his # to new phone. Got it set up, but could not recover his data or phone logs. (So-- he has no one else to call, to try to mooch.)
I conveniently forgot to give him MY number when checking him in at shelter. He listed me as "emergency contact" so shelter has it, but I instructed them to NOT give it to BIL because I don't want him calling constantly for every little fking thing.

AoS is my source for news and commentary, you can imagine how uninformed I was today and how lacking in entertainment. It's good to be back. Thanks ace, pixie, CBD, and everyone who makes this site the community that it is.

My list of no go areas of the US about doubles every year.
I use to like traveling around to see different parts of the country. Not anymore, I think it's best to stay in my own neck of the woods. No telling what you may run up on these days.

In my salad days, when I rarely ate salad but did eat fast food, there was a Mickey D's where identical-twin girls worked. They'd work the two drive through windows..... first one taking your money, second one handing you your food. I knew the gag because they were only a year younger than me in high school, but they said they got some good double-takes out of it.
