Posted by: BarelyScaryMary at March 20, 2026 09:54 PM (w5FC4) --- I mean, what do you want to know? Lots of Catholic apologetics out there. Look up Scott Hahn on youtube and you can see how he went from a rising star in the Reformed movement to staunch Catholic. Taylor Marshall was also a Protestant who converted. I keep seeing this Joshua Charles guy on X who is a bit younger and may relate better. If things continue to calm down here, I'm planning on being and OCIA sponsor in the fall (that's how people come into the Catholic Church). I'm a convert, and was a sponsor in 2016. I really enjoyed it, but it took up a lot of time and my wife said I couldn't do it until 1) the kids grew up and 2) I was out of the Guard. So now I can! Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Cal Baptist is SBC
We should work to provide for the orphaned, the needy, the abused, the aged, the helpless, and the sick. We should speak on behalf of the unborn and contend for the sanctity of all human life from conception to natural death. Every Christian should seek to bring industry, government, and society as a whole under the sway of the principles of righteousness, truth, and brotherly love. In order to promote these ends Christians should be ready to work with all men of good will in any good cause, always being careful to act in the spirit of love without compromising their loyalty to Christ and His truth. No workout tomorrow, so I'll try to sleep to a reasonable hour. That's if a certain black cat whose name rhymes with "curling" doesn't wake me up by leaping over me and kicking me in the ribs at 3:45 am.
He did earn his Friskies today. I had the door open and the screen door shut, and he was sitting, looking out. Suddenly he stiffened, staring intently upward. I know that look, so I followed his gaze. WASP! I whipped off my slipper and let the little arthropod have it. Then I tossed the corpse out, shut the door, and gave Stirling a handful of kitty treats. This must be the sixth or seventh wasp he's spotted since his first summer. I wasn't sure about tonight's music birthday selections, but the first meme put those worries to rest! They're perfect.
First up is Alex Kapranos, who turns 54 today. He is the lead singer (and songwriter, guitarist, and keyboardist) of Franz Ferdinand, but I decided to look for something other than their well-known hit "Take Me Out," and I found a deep cut with the Moron-friendly name "Wine In The Afternoon." It's a non-album track, just the B-side of the single for "Eleanor Put Your Boots On," and... wow. It's pretty, but dark. I was expecting a light-hearted "Summer Wine," and it's more like "Haha What A Serious Drinking Problem Funny Right": Franz Ferdinand - Wine In The Afternoon (Official Video) https://youtu.be/4A9pJH0uxe4 But not as dark as Chester Bennington! Lead vocalist for Linkin Park (among others), he was born on this date in 1976; but he is not 50, because he hung himself in the end, in July of 2017. That is also the title of this award-winning MTV Best Rock Video (how's that for a segue): Linkin Park - In The End [Official HD Music Video] https://youtu.be/eVTXPUF4Oz4 Posted by: SciVo at March 20, 2026 10:34 PM (Sy6m/) Posted by: LASue at March 20, 2026 10:35 PM (mFhj8) 77

First granddaughter had a preK4 nursery rhyme deal today and we attended. Twinkle Twinkle Little Star was hers. None of the kids wanted to say their rhymes and I supported their decisions and moved on. Our girl, normally outgowing, burst into tears at one point. It was very emotional for them all for some reason as no one was demanding they perform from their little chairs.
I discovered I am quite popular with her friends who wanted me to play with them in their class. I sat on the little wooden chair and they yapped. The big haha was that she calls me Nana and they call me Banana and I am fine with this. Cute kids. When it's time to go the girls hug each other like they will never see each other again. I asked one mother if this is due to being Friday or everyday. Everyday. One kid, who appears dot Indian, had a strange green booger connecting from one nostril to another like the septum rings of liberal wimmen. So I probably have Delhi Disease now on top of barely getting over RSV (which has taken a toll and I am still not 100%). Otherwise he was cute and laughed because I can't say his name. Back in a previous millennium, when I was in 9th Grade, a girl friend asked me if I'd go with her to her church, which was (AFAIK) the only Catholic church in town. Sure, why not? Things were fine until it came to Communion. I was all baptized and confirmed, qualified to partake, in my native (pre-woke) Episcopal church, but I asked my friend whether I should go up and receive communion. She assured me that would be fine. I went up, I knelt with her, and then, I was obviously doing it wrong (hands out instead of tongue out I later learned), and the priest gave me such a scorching glare! I don't even remember if he gave me a wafer or just waved his hand over me, but I've never forgotten that glare. I just knew I was not Of The Body by his reckoning. Infidel! My mother-in-law (God bless her sainted soul) was a devout Catholic, so I've been to a Catholic church a few times since, for funerals and Bingo. Was never again tempted to partake of the Communion ritual there. Also, that girl and I went separate ways. There's no one path- that's why conversion stories are so fascinating.
Posted by: sal at March 20, 2026 11:00 PM (f+FmA) ........................ Interesting in that I mentioned Scott Hahn today to a friend of our son's at the school deal. He remains in the liberal PCUSA church. He greeted me with a hug as for some reason he likes me and I told him I recently converted and a year ago I would not have considered it. Mentioned Rome Sweet Home to him as well. His books are very easy to read and he writes well. Son's friend either listened and considered, or may not hug me next time. I am far from pushy or know it all, I stated personal feelings. His daughter is our first grandgirl's best friend. For some reason he seeks me out to talk to and is a kind young man. I did end our conversation in that everyone simply needs to find what they are looking for in worship. I know he feels like the PCUSA has gone too liberal (and they have, big time). Find a church where you feel peace and that you've worshipped after church/Mass. I haven't felt that in a long time til the last half year. Some of this is a mystery to me, yet I know the source. Oddly -- or maybe not, considering Nawlins is a heavily Cat'lick city -- no less than three of the important women in my life have been of that faith: Mrs. Wolfus No. 2, the girl I dated in 1991, and Miss Linda herself. The first two were natives; Miss L. is not, though.
However, I never attended a Catholic service of any kind except weddings until very recently. In '84 Mrs. W. No. 2's best friend got married in the famous St. Louis Cathedral (her father was a fireman, and had called in some favors). The main thing I recall? Mrs. W. No. 2, who had gone to Catholic school as a girl, going up to one of the fonts, dipping some water, genuflecting briefly, crossing herself, and then murmuring to me, "Don't ever tell my father I did that." (Her father was a notorious agnostic or atheist.) Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at March 20, 2026 11:12 PM (wzUl9) 160

It was night and rainy. I changed lanes, didn't see him. My left rear door rubbed the rim of his right steering tire. Could have pitted me but I pulled away immediately. His lug nuts did a job on my door. No damage to him according to my wife. We exchanged information and he took off. No police report. I called his office and spoke to his wife next day. It is a two truck company. She said they were not going to make a claim and I said neither was I. Couple of weeks later my insurance co. called and the truck company is making a claim for some damages and the driver/owner is claiming injury. Fucking injury. My insurance is taking care of it. Bah McDonald's. If you are 29 you will remember when you could see them grill the hamburgers. For years now they have been precooked frozen warmed in the microwave. It was explained to me once ( by a Catholic who was a Brother, not my brother) that the Catholic dogma was based on the court system that existed at the time. You weren't going to talk to the King, so you sought a court member to ask your favor for you. The court member is a Saint. The way I understand it, in The Bible, the word "saint" refers to people who are actively being Christians. No official names them. BTW not trying to bash or offend anyone's faith. Except Muslims. I'm sure they expend extra fuel incinerating the fetuses. Yes it sounds nasty, but do you think Planned Parenthood murder centers do something better? I doubt it, I'm sure legally the fetuses are considered medical waste. In England they probably dual purpose the medical waste incinerators in some hospitals to run steam heat or something like that. Part 2--
2 weeks later, late December, BIL decides to go back to abandoned trailer, because he forgot his camera. Drives all the way from PHX to S. Idaho. Trailer still there! He texts me that he will come to my house in a few days. NO!!!! I told him "do not come here" (because I know he will try to mooch a place to live) He says ok, he will go to Colorado. *shrug* whatever. Not another peep until someone in CA found his phone in January. Truck "in the middle of the desert" they said. Clothes everywhere, apparently no one around for a while. State detective told me: Bro was picked up by CHP, hitchhiking, taken to hospital to be checked out. Pickup was stuck in mud, towed and impounded. BIL says it was dark and he couldn't find his phone or wallet, so started walking after 'getting stuck'. I figure he fell asleep or goofed, ran off-road, knew his license was suspended and didn't want to get arrested (not first offense) so took off. He stayed with "friends" until destroying their welcome mat & got a bus ticket to my town. Posted by: JQ at March 21, 2026 12:24 AM (rdVOm) 249

Can we just nuke London? Posted by: Ian S. at March 20, 2026 11:44 PM (tUj8P) Oh, that canard has come around again. Human flesh has a negative BTU value. It takes more BTU's to boil off the water before what remains can burn and give a little heat. Even if fetuses were made out of 100% anthracite coal, which they are not, they are so small that they would not provide enough heat to keep a phone booth warm. They probably have a heating boiler that does double-duty as an incinerator, because you pretty much have to incinerate "med waste" whether it is a fetus or Granny's gall bladder, because such stuff is an infection hazard. But it costs them in fuel, probably natural gas, to burn it. I am in no way a supporter of abortion, but the notion that they are gleefully burning babies to keep the shop warm simply does not pass the smell test. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at March 21, 2026 01:02 AM (8zz6B) You would have a coronary if you saw this car. He rewired the whole car with 4 colors. Red, white, blue, black. No loom, no shrink tube. He used zip ties every 2 inches on the wires in the engine bay....fluorescent green ones. Not black, thats too easy. He didn't label any of the wires, has no clue what they are for. It took him 2 weeks to retrace what he did, and that was months ago, and still didn't label them. He ripped out the original dash gauge cluster, and made a new one from wood, using miss matched brands of gauges, so there is no symmetry. He cut out all the structure behind the rear seat and moved it back a few inches and rebuilt it with angle iron and bolts like a large erector set. The reason? The rear seats need new covers, so lets just lose the seats. Fucking Jay Assrack. Posted by: Berserker-Dragonheads Division at March 21, 2026 01:16 AM (snZF9) 286

Around here most of the FM stations don't do news.
The two most popular AM stations do Fox and Townhall. No one wants to hear lying propaganda. Posted by: Braenyard - some Absent Friends are more equal than others _ at March 21, 2026 01:18 AM (Puq9y) 289
Did his new ID card ever show up?
Posted by: Tuna --------- Yes. It arrived this morning. Then I told BIL to pack his stuff while I visited hubby at lunch time (our daily routine). Then took BIL to phone store, to get his old phone cancelled and move his # to new phone. Got it set up, but could not recover his data or phone logs. (So-- he has no one else to call, to try to mooch.) I conveniently forgot to give him MY number when checking him in at shelter. He listed me as "emergency contact" so shelter has it, but I instructed them to NOT give it to BIL because I don't want him calling constantly for every little fking thing. Good evening
AoS is my source for news and commentary, you can imagine how uninformed I was today and how lacking in entertainment. It's good to be back. Thanks ace, pixie, CBD, and everyone who makes this site the community that it is. Thanks to all commenters as well. I do feel bad that I don't remember everyone's names and details, but I do appreciate you all. I feel like the effort to put the fire in the truck bed out, should have worked. Shame it didn't, good effort. Posted by: AmericanKestrel at March 21, 2026 01:22 AM (RkOfE) 291
My list of no go areas of the US about doubles every year.
I use to like traveling around to see different parts of the country. Not anymore, I think it's best to stay in my own neck of the woods. No telling what you may run up on these days. It's a shame, but that's the way it is. Posted by: Case at March 21, 2026 01:22 AM (pvf3X) 292
I just fired off an irritated email to my Senator. Ted Cruz. I used the terms libtard and what the hell do they sctuslly do? And what do Republicans do but bend over and ask for more? What is wrong with these people.?

JQ, glad things have worked out with your bil. You showed kindness and generosity and set boundaries. I hope he finds the help he needs and you can be at peace.

If you've seen the movie, The Prestige, the Scooby Doo trick is easy.
Posted by: davidt Haven't seen the movie, but does it have something to do with identical twins? In my salad days, when I rarely ate salad but did eat fast food, there was a Mickey D's where identical-twin girls worked. They'd work the two drive through windows..... first one taking your money, second one handing you your food. I knew the gag because they were only a year younger than me in high school, but they said they got some good double-takes out of it. Posted by: mikeski at March 21, 2026 01:29 AM (VHUov) 296
About 700 affiliated stations nationwide carry CBS News Radio programming, which will end on May 22. All jobs on the radio team will be eliminated, the company said. You could fire off a 40mm grenade at your Senator.
It would make the same impact as a letter - which is none. These people don't give a fuck about anything, because they don't have to. Posted by: Yudhishthira's Dice at March 21, 2026 01:33 AM (BI5O2) 302
I hate to leave here, but it's time. I've got to let my tenants know, they want to find a new place before I put it on the market. Then I have to do all the things to get the place sell ready.
Construction on my hermitage in Montana has begun. All my life my grandfather wondered what he would be when he grew up. I think that I (taking the idea from a dear friend who has passed on) want to chase bumblebees. Posted by: AmericanKestrel at March 21, 2026 01:34 AM (RkOfE) 303
Why are Democrats suddenly throwing Cesar Chavez under the bus, and removing his name from buildings, streets, boulevards and holidays?
Because they intend to strip Donald Trump's name from every street and building they can, making the false claim that Donald Trump is also a sexual predator. They never, EVER throw one of their own under the bus. They make excuses for Communism's murderous history. They won't apologize for going to war in defense of slavery, or founding the KKK, or Margaret Sanger's bloody history. But now we're supposed to believe they suddenly adhere to standards? Oh, that canard has come around again. Human flesh has a negative BTU value. It takes more BTU's to boil off the water before what remains can burn and give a little heat.
