Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Thursday Overnight Open Thread - March 19, 2026 [Doof]![]() From Earth Pictures AI is asshoe Not long ago, we joked about "if it's on the internet, it's gotta be true". Well, how about, "if it's on the internet, it's probably AI"? Meet Jessica Foster, the Wholesome US Soldier and Donald Trump Fan Who Doesn’t Exist ![]() Jessica Foster joined Instagram in late December of last year, but during that short period of time, she managed to grow her following on the Meta-owned social network to over 1 million. And it’s not hard to see why; she is very beautiful (some might say suspiciously so), she serves in the US Army, and is an avid Donald Trump fan, constantly posting photos alongside the American president. But there is something off about Jessica. Even ignoring her seemingly perfect looks, you can’t help but raise an eyebrow when you see that online searches yield no results about her. Apart from the carefully crafted Instagram account, Jessica Foster doesn’t exist. And that’s because she’s not a real person, but an AI-made avatar designed for a very specific demographic. *** Whoever created Jessica Foster appears to have done so to funnel her gullible followers to OF, where they pay for more raunchy content, messages from her, and tips. Apparently, the account violates the platform’s terms of service, which state that every account must be linked to a verified human being, and all AI-generated content must resemble that specific real person and be tagged with a #AI label.I'm starting to go with the default opinion that every photo or video I see online is AI unless proven otherwise. ----- News for you Deadheads out there Jerry Garcia’s Famed ‘Tiger’ Guitar Bought By Chicago Collector For $11.56 Million ![]() Jerry Garcia with The Dead at Madison Square Garden, Sept. 15, 1987. Credit: AP Photo/Corey Struller One of Grateful Dead legend Jerry Garcia’s favorite instruments was his trusty, custom-built, wood-grained guitar nicknamed “Tiger.” Now “Tiger” could be coming back to Chicago after local guitar collector Bobby Tseitlin bought it at auction for $11.56 million, which was briefly a record for a guitar sale. (A black Fender Stratocaster used by Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour sold at the same Christie’s auction last week for $14.5 million.) Tseitlin, 44, is co-founder of Family Guitars, a Chicago company that collects historic instruments and is “home to some of the most legendary instruments ever played,” per its website. For the past 20 years, Tseitlin’s passion project has been collecting guitars, he told Rolling Stone. Tseitlin isn’t about to store his famous guitars where no one can see them, though. He lends them out to musicians to play and keep them alive. True to form, Derek Trucks of Tedeschi Trucks Band was on stage at the Beacon Theatre in New York the night after the auction, playing a Garcia tune on Garcia’s beloved guitar. Trucks attended the auction with Tseitlin, launching online hope he would be playing it soon. Fans got their wish. Some trips are long, some are strange, and some are so good, you can’t help but keep 'em going! After reuniting with the Grateful Dead last year to release Grateful Dead Juicy Pale Ale, we couldn’t resist keeping the journey rolling. This year, we’re beyond excited to collaborate once again on our fifth Dogfish Head x Grateful Dead beer. *** Our collaboration with Grateful Dead stretches back more than a decade, beginning in 2013 with the release of American Beauty and continuing through multiple re‑releases, evolutions and creative experiments over the years. Each chapter has built on the last, fueled by mutual respect, shared values and a belief that art, whether brewed, played or painted, should invite people in. Grateful Dead Citrus Daydream Lager is the latest stop on that journey. This goodness is swimming to shelves nationwide in 6‑pack / 12‑oz cans as we speak ... er, type!, and will be available coast-to-coast beginning Mar. 2026. You can grab both of our Grateful Dead collaborative brews, Juicy Pale Ale and Citrus Daydream Lager, at your favorite local retailer or use our Fish Finder to track them down near you.----- Kewl Photograhy 40 Of The Funniest Wildlife Photos Ever Captured At Exactly The Right Moment ![]() If you’ve ever wondered whether animals have a sense of humor, the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards might just have the answer. This photography competition celebrates those perfectly timed moments in the animal kingdom when creatures appear surprisingly human. Instead of the usual dramatic wildlife shots, the contest focuses on the lighter side of nature — the awkward, unexpected, and downright hilarious moments animals find themselves in. And honestly, some of these photos look like wildlife accidentally walked into a comedy sketch. So scroll on, enjoy the laughs, and get ready to see wildlife from a whole new — and much funnier — perspective.Check them all out. The guitar not going into a museum but continuing to be played, freaking cool.
But would not want to pay insurance as it travels. Would keep out of NYC, Chicago, LA, SF, ok, west coast messed coast. Dallas had a great music scene years ago, $20 wristband, 5 or 6 venues, great times, early '90's. Anyone know of great music towns with live music in a open carry (drinks) zone? We went -- well, Miss Linda went, and dragged me -- to a church spaghetti lunch. Turned out we had to wait in line, looping around the building and around the church interior, for *45 minutes* to get our food. But it was good: spaghetti with sauce (they even gave us parmesan cheese), two pieces of fried fish, some unidentifiable vegetable concoction, a slice of angel food cake, and a bag with several Italian-style cookies. All free; so, except for the waiting in line part, not bad.

Back when we did use the interoffice envelopes, the slots would fill up fast. If I were about to use the last slot, I'd write (OVER) in it, and put my addressee's name in the first slot on the back.

Grok kind of freaked me out yesterday when it did something it should not have been able to do.
Or at least, it seemed highly unlikely. I gave it an image and asked it to generate some HTML code that would approximate the look and feel of the image. It did that OK, but then it gave me a SECOND piece of code that spooked me out because it was very specific to the project I was working on and I hadn't given Grok any prompting in that direction. Had a male band director in HS. He was a small guy and seemed to shake all over his body occasionally, which we all thought was funny. One evening my dad heard me mention it and told me the guy was on the receiving end of two long artillery barrages in WW2, wounded and I had better shut up. I did.

My 7th grade math teacher is who had the biggest impact in my life. Middle School was where I began my American education and before every school year, my parents would inform my math teachers that I struggled with math and why.
My 6th grade teacher didn't care. He was an angry old man in a wheelchair that I think didn't really enjoy teaching. Mr. Grant, my 7th grade teacher cared. He took extra time during class to help me. He and his wife would also help me during basketball games while I attended as part of the pep club. It's because of him and my parents that I finally got the hang of multiplication and division and found I loved wrking out equations. Posted by: Joyenz at March 19, 2026 11:11 PM (2F0/Y) 252

Re: interoffice mail, back in the '80s, pre-email, I worked for a large company, in some rental office space a couple of miles from the main headquarters. The company had several locations around town, and a van that ran a route between the office locations a couple of times a day, delivering that kind of interoffice mail.
There was a marketing VP who pissed off someone at headquarters and was exiled to a cubical at our location. He had nothing to do with what we did, he was just sent to our office as punishment. He was a couple of decades older than the rest of the crew in our office, and didn't really fit in. Plus he was a real asshole. Eventually, after a couple of months, he was pardoned and went back to the main office. Shortly after he left, one of the guys I worked with got a hold of a really nasty gay porno mag, "Leather Lads", or something. I don't want to know where he got it. Anyway, he printed out a mailing label with the asshole VP's headquarters office address, stuck the label on the mag and put it in the outgoing interoffice bin. Apparently it went through the corporate mail-room and got delivered to the guy's office and created quite a stir. Posted by: a.moron at March 19, 2026 11:12 PM (X5Jzz) 255

I think one trick with AI/software is to give whatever it outputs rigorous tests. One of the devs in the office told me his pattern is to give the AI something to write, tell it to write tests which then show the AI solution failed, then have it write code that now works. _-_ Important step, all right. Another critical thing about writing software is usability and workflow analysis. Since automating a task with software re-arranges how someone does their work, it matters a lot to learn what the user is trying to do and how best to present information etc. Lower-level parts of software (closer to the machine) are probably good uses of AI, but closer to humans, there is still a lot of important work for a software developer. Finally got to the master bedroom sinks tonight. Replaced valves, faucets, and drainpipes. Found out why the old drains leaked. The drains were under sideways force because the angles for the pipes were all screwed up. Bought a couple of flexible P-traps and the problem is solved. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at March 20, 2026 12:21 AM (8zz6B) The problem with 9mm revolvers is extracting the fired cases, since the 9mm doesn't have a rim for a conventional extractor to engage. There are some revolver designs that use fancy mechanisms to extend a finger to catch the case groove during extraction, Charter Arms currently makes one, but they have never caught on. Federal Ammunition briefly made a 9mm Rimmed cartridge, until people discovered it would fit into weak, antique top-break revolvers, with possibly catastrophic results. Didn't understand you were shopping for Iran citizens. It's a quandary. Are they familiar with firearms at all. We can't take that for granted.
If they are familiar it would be the weapon they are familiar with. Otherwise a revolver is a good idea. I think American manufacturers would be anxious to help the cause, please the president, obtain a tax deduction and donate the necessary numbers of standard revolvers - same for ammo manufacturers. Posted by: Braenyard - some Absent Friends are more equal than others _ at March 20, 2026 12:36 AM (Puq9y) Well, the manual of arms for a DAO revolver is pretty damned simple; if you can load it, you can shoot it. I suggested 9 mm, because I assume the Basij are armed with 9 mm weapons. If some other cartridge is more prevalent in iran, design your "Iran Liberator" for that. The usage scenario is the same as for the Liberator. Use the cheap gun to ambush some baddies, and take their weapons. If you use a cartridge that is already prevalent in Iran, it raises the possibility of infighting amongst the bad guys. If you use 45 ACP, it's obviously partisans, and reprisals would occur. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at March 20, 2026 12:45 AM (8zz6B) 397
The real problem with revolvers is that they cost more than polymer semi-autos.
Give them shit loads of vanilla Glock clones and ARs; distribute, train, and coordinate action by Green Beanies and Israelis. Don't forget some C4, AT4s, and misc heavy weapons. Posted by: Itinerant Alley Butcher at March 20, 2026 12:43 AM (/lPRQ) And grenades. Grenades are your friend. Posted by: Berserker-Dragonheads Division at March 20, 2026 12:47 AM (snZF9) 398

It's probably too late in the day to be talking about an "Iran Liberator" anyway. I expect Israel has already set up channels to get weapons into the hands of Iranian friendlies, and it will roll out when the time is right.
