For me that argument hasn't been operative since Midnight Hammer. That already proved Iran's defenses aren't shit and that it would be straightforward to establish uncontested air supremacy. And that's how it went.
The part where we've proven that the only two competent militaries on the planet are the US Armed Forces and the IDF is a nice bonus against future troublemaking, as well.

I have been watching a naval historian from England a bit and he had an interesting talk not directly about the current situation but about the realities of a Navy. if you want to have a ship on station overseas, or ready to respond to a crisis you really need to have 4 ships of that class, since one would be in transit, in short term maintenance or in long term repair/upgrading. If you have more than 4 total, you might be lucky to improve the ratio of those on station a bit, but there is a huge tail of ships that can't just sail out and fight.
So when you let your Navy drop to just a few ships of each type because it looks good on paper, it may not be ready when a crisis happens.

I occasionally see some of those Promethean Action video. They are kinda loony.
Their logic is that The City of London profits $10 - 15 a barrel on all oil transported through insurance, and that the entire world exists to make them rich, and now Trump is undoing that. I think their math is very wrong, but it is relevant to the above discussion.

Now there would be a useful project for the CIA! They could do a public awareness campaign throughout Europe, aimed at Syrian refugees: that since Syria is under Sharia now, they have to leave. When it was not under Sharia, then there was no difference in living in some other country that was also not under Sharia; but now they are defying Sharia by remaining outside of it. (At least that's my understanding.)
