----- What are ya drinkin' today, lads and lassies? Want something other than green beer or Guinness (or my preferred Irish stout - Murphy's)? The ONT has you covered! 32 St. Patrick’s Day Cocktails To Bring You Extra Luck This Year St. Patrick's Day is all about the booze. So why not make a cocktail that will be sure to impress? Even if you're avoiding the bar crawl (we totally get it), you can still have a little fun with your drinks at home. This holiday is all about the drinks, so don’t let it pass by without jazzing up what you’re imbibing (even if it's just adding a little green to your beer). Lucky you, we’ve got everything from bright green cocktails to boozy milkshakes. Check out the list of our favorite St. Patrick’s Day drinks to get some inspiration (and likely feel the luck of the Irish as well). And who knows, you just might find a pot of gold (or a Gold Rush cocktail) at the end of the rainbow!Check out the link and let us know which one is yer favorite! ----- Kewl Solar System Stuff
----- To our Rocky Mountain Hordelings -- be careful out there! 5 Most Rattlesnake Infested Areas in The Rockies Running all the way from Canada to the northern section of New Mexico, the Rocky Mountains support a vast array of ecosystems from deserts to prairies to cold alpine slopes. The most common species you'll find here are the prairie rattlesnake and western rattlesnake. Towards the New Mexico region, you might also find the large Western diamondback rattlesnake, or the small mottled rock rattlesnake, or the massausaga rattlesnake in southeastern Colorado. These rattlesnakes play a key role in their ecosystems by keeping certain pest populations like mice under control and preventing prairie dogs from overpopulating the land. In the vast majority of cases, these snakes will ignore humans or use their rattles to warn humans to stay away. However, if a person ignores these warnings or accidentally steps on them, it can lead to a bad bite. If left untreated, many of these rattlesnakes are capable of killing a human with their venom. The best way to prevent this from happening is simply being aware of where you might encounter rattlesnakes. Here are 5 of the most rattlesnake-infested areas in the Rockies to be on the lookout for them. Live! Great band back in the day. Saw them at New Lennox Commons a few years back. Sounded great. Place was packed 3k easy.
Joe Kent resigning made today a bit interesting. C2 Underground has been trending more and more towards the "This is BAD" (subtly) on his YouTube missives lately. He's good (I think) but it's become more overt. Also Fine. But today he made the Joe Kent thing some huge deal and that Kent was a major player in all of this so him resigning means things are bad etc. No mention of his new wife and her entanglements but whatever. Just interesting what value people place on stuff like this. Posted by: GigantorX at March 17, 2026 10:10 PM (x8k2o) 28

My freshman year in college, I got the wondrous call from the front desk of my dorm that I had a bouquet of flowers delivered to me on March 17th. It was enormous, three dozen roses, beautifully arranged. I ripped the card open and it said, "We're sorry you're not Irish." What? It wasn't signed, nothing.
I called home, asking my mom, "Did you and dad send me flowers for St. Patrick's day?" "Yes." No other explanation. This new tradition continued for the rest of my undergraduate and graduate school years, and then stopped abruptly, never to occur again. It was the weirdest, and longest, prank my parents ever pulled on me. To be fair, though, I'm not Irish. Posted by: moki at March 17, 2026 10:37 PM (wLjpr) 128

True story. When I moved to PR a buddy and I decided we would drive to FL and visit his brother who lived on a boat in West Palm Beach and then fly from there. Back then you could get a free ride to FL by delivering a car for a snowbird. You didn't get paid but gas was free. We got a yellow Lincoln Continental. Total pimp mobile. It had an FM stereo and we were constantly flipping stations along I-95 when the local signal would die. We heard Free Bird over 20 times from Boston to WPB in 3 days. No matter where we were it followed us. Couldn't listen to the song for years after that. Posted by: JackStraw at March 17, 2026 10:46 PM (viF8m) 159

There is nothing creepier than an abandoned hospital. I had the keys to one, while I worked on the plans for demolishing it, and had to walk through it several times. Thankfully, it was only a single storey building with just one basement level. I only went there during daylight hours and was greatly relieved when it was turned into just an open pit in a field.

Posted by: JackStraw at March 17, 2026 10:46 PM (viF8m) I made several vacation break drives from college in upstate NY to my parents house just south of WPB in the late '70's with the same snowbird deal. Except I had to pay my own gas. I would do it in about 28 hours straight with the 55 mph speed limits. One trip the song Native New Yorker from Odyssey followed me all the way down until near dawn outside Savanna where WABC faded out into Farm Reports and late night preachers..... The decommissioned ships had wooden hulls but were well beyond their expected service lifetime. >>The fact that they would allow it has never happened. And if they allow it it means they are allowing their players to play.
Just not true. Two years ago the Mets closer, Edwin Diaz, blew out his knee at the WBC and missed the entire season. The owners have a lot of say in what players can do because they are paying them astronomical amounts of money. Even the reporting tonight talked a lot about the large number of big stars playing for the US at the WBC because in the past a lot of them didn't play. Even the pitchers that did pitch were all on team mandated pitch counts. And this is pre-season. I don't see the owners being this generous in the middle of the season but we'll see. My understanding is that US petroleum doesn't use anything that passes through the Straits of Hormuz. Europe and China rely on it, at least in part. Other countries might, as well.
If Iran deploys mines, why would the US military need to remove them? Let the navies of countries who need those sea lanes open do the job. Posted by: Hour of the Wolf Should charge those countries that need escort through the Straight just $10 / barrel for "insurance". If their ship gets sunk they get a refund. It would be nice, but it's a global market. If they can't get oil from Iran, they'll start buying it from the places we get it, and drive the prices up.
We're an exporter, so they could buy from us (yeahright). But still: global prices up, prices at the pump up. Posted by: o'mikeski at March 17, 2026 11:54 PM (VHUov) Makes sense. We had 2 snows here. one was maybe 8" and the other big one, maybe 18" here, but that big one wasn't as big as we had in the past. We also didn't have ice around here. We used to get a bunch of normal snows. 1 year we had 19 snow storms, but its been probably 15 years since that happened. We had a bunch of years with no snow at all, and one january was mostly 60 degree days. Its always a mixed bag but in general we haven't had the snows we normally get. It goes in cycles though. This year wasn't super cold like a few years ago when it was 4 degrees on new years eve. we might have had a few days of high teens, and maybe a few in the 20's, but for the most part its been in the 30's. Not that she's in West Virginia. My parents are both gone now. I've always hated this town & only moved back to be near them. One brother lives here too, but we haven't spoken for 2 years and likely never will again. Meh.
Once hubby is gone, I have no reason to stay here. Posted by: JQ at March 18, 2026 02:27 AM (rdVOm) 439
Go with WV, if you can. VA was nice before CIA Barbie and her Merry band of marxists took over. I live and work in NoVA. It's an extension of Babylon DC. Avoid if you can.

Evening.
I promise not to go down the rabbit hole of Cheech and Chong clips tonight. Off work now. Beer cracked. Just got caught up on local news. The little Sikh owned store down the street from me got robbed at gunpoint Sunday afternoon. I missed it by about an hour. Went to get a beer and a hand scribbled note was on the door. "Due to unforseen circumstances we are closed Indefinately" Dudes bail is $250,000. Fucking idiot. I helped the owner set up the cameras. If you are within 30 feet of that building your ass is easily identifiable. Caught with a mountain of speed too. Posted by: Reforger at March 18, 2026 02:43 AM (rpbjO) 442

And JQ, you had asked about my job shit last night but it was into the tech thread before I saw it.
Practical upshot is status quo. I haven't done shit. I suck. Boss man knows I'm pissed though. Hope he's fixing things. Posted by: Reforger at March 18, 2026 02:49 AM (rpbjO) 445

Posted by: Reforger ---------- Hope he's *actually fixing things* and not just giving you lip service, as many bosses are known to do... I still think you should contact your State Labor Board-- if you are due the money, they need to fkn PAY UP! Posted by: JQ at March 18, 2026 02:52 AM (rdVOm) 446
Thank you for the confirmation, Puddleglum, and may God cover you with his hand to obscure you from those that hate good.
JQ, if I didn't have a critical mass of kin and had to choose from just any arbitrary place in the U.S., I don't know. There is such a massive variety. I would probably just move further south or east to an even less populated part of Oregon, since I do like the place a lot, just the people leave something to be desired with so many busybodies and stickyfingers. Double-check your w2's vs YTD pay as well, Reforger.
Make sure employer didn't do any *funny bidness* about leaving you with the tax-bag for boss' GF (unearned!) shift differential! Posted by: JQ at March 18, 2026 02:56 AM (rdVOm) 448

Posted by: JQ at March 18, 2026 02:52 AM (rdVOm) That is part of my continued employment with the company. I just haven't told them yet. Posted by: Reforger at March 18, 2026 02:56 AM (rpbjO) 449

15 minutes, Bers? How big is your place?
Posted by: JQ at March 18, 2026 02:22 AM (rdVOm) A hair under 2 acres, probably 1 acre clear that has to be mowed, maybe a bit less. Hard to say. they got 2 dudes on those stand up mowers that rip. one does the front, the other does the back and sides, 1 dude runs around with the weedwacker, then 1 or 2 of those guys will grab the leaf blower and blow everything clean. It's 15-20 minutes. They haul ass. The lawn mowers are fast. They rip back and forth on those things, and they never cut in the same direction, they change every week. People love the company, pretty big operation and the reviews are great. Posted by: Berserker-Dragonheads Division at March 18, 2026 03:03 AM (snZF9) 452

Berserker, I have Phil McKnight in a split screen with a Fender Ultra II 75th Anniversary Telecaster. I don't know if you like Teles, heck I don't even have any guitars yet because I need to get my situation and finances stabilized, but there is something compelling about his systematic approach:

Posted by: Reforger ---------- I know you must've tried putting a zero in front of your Emp#. Right? If that doesn't do it, you go to HR and tell them to change it back to *killtheErf* mode, LOL. Posted by: JQ at March 18, 2026 03:04 AM (rdVOm) Processing 0.08, elapsed 0.0822 seconds. |
