Running all the way from Canada to the northern section of New Mexico, the Rocky Mountains support a vast array of ecosystems from deserts to prairies to cold alpine slopes. The most common species you'll find here are the prairie rattlesnake and western rattlesnake. Towards the New Mexico region, you might also find the large Western diamondback rattlesnake, or the small mottled rock rattlesnake, or the massausaga rattlesnake in southeastern Colorado. These rattlesnakes play a key role in their ecosystems by keeping certain pest populations like mice under control and preventing prairie dogs from overpopulating the land. In the vast majority of cases, these snakes will ignore humans or use their rattles to warn humans to stay away. However, if a person ignores these warnings or accidentally steps on them, it can lead to a bad bite. If left untreated, many of these rattlesnakes are capable of killing a human with their venom. The best way to prevent this from happening is simply being aware of where you might encounter rattlesnakes. Joe Kent resigning made today a bit interesting. C2 Underground has been trending more and more towards the "This is BAD" (subtly) on his YouTube missives lately. He's good (I think) but it's become more overt. Also Fine. But today he made the Joe Kent thing some huge deal and that Kent was a major player in all of this so him resigning means things are bad etc. No mention of his new wife and her entanglements but whatever.

This new tradition continued for the rest of my undergraduate and graduate school years, and then stopped abruptly, never to occur again. It was the weirdest, and longest, prank my parents ever pulled on me. To be fair, though, I'm not Irish.

There is nothing creepier than an abandoned hospital. I had the keys to one, while I worked on the plans for demolishing it, and had to walk through it several times. Thankfully, it was only a single storey building with just one basement level. I only went there during daylight hours and was greatly relieved when it was turned into just an open pit in a field.

True story. When I moved to PR a buddy and I decided we would drive to FL and visit his brother who lived on a boat in West Palm Beach and then fly from there. Back then you could get a free ride to FL by delivering a car for a snowbird. You didn't get paid but gas was free.
We got a yellow Lincoln Continental. Total pimp mobile. It had an FM stereo and we were constantly flipping stations along I-95 when the local signal would die. We heard Free Bird over 20 times from Boston to WPB in 3 days. No matter where we were it followed us. Couldn't listen to the song for years after that.

I was born in the Navy Hospital at Camp Lejeune, NC. I suppose that it still is there. Dad was learning to fly at an airfield near Kinston through a firm named Stallings, which, come to think of it, is not a good name for a flight instruction firm. I don't know about my sister's birthing place around Houston (Dad was still in the Air Force).
The place where my two brothers were born was converted into a veterans' facility in my hometown.

Hubby and I are wiped out.
We had our two granddaughters today from 5:30 a.m. until till 5:30 p.m.
Two family members had outpatient surgery today in SLC, which is a two hour drive from here.
Everyone is fine except we old people, lol.
It was a great day with the granddaughters, 6 y/o and 3 y/o.
They are very active, lol.

A few of the songs from their first album were reworked old blues songs, written by Willie Dixon, along with a few on their second.
From the third album onwards it’s almost all original credits for Page & Plant along with some from Page & Bonham and an occasional outside songwriter.

I once had dinner at a place in San Fran called Poppleton's that was too good to last. I was intrigued by the "Tangerine Gimlet" on the cocktail menu and ordered it. It was then, for the first time, that I understood the artistry of a great bartender. The drink was so delicious and beautiful, cold and satisfying and fresh -- that was fresh tangerine juice, I kid you not -- I measure that drink against all others everywhere, and I've never found its equal.
I once googled up the dead Poppleton's but I couldn't find out anything about the bartender. I'd follow that person to the ends of the earth.

True story. When I moved to PR a buddy and I decided we would drive to FL and visit his brother who lived on a boat in West Palm Beach and then fly from there. Back then you could get a free ride to FL by delivering a car for a snowbird. You didn't get paid but gas was free.
We got a yellow Lincoln Continental. Total pimp mobile. It had an FM stereo and we were constantly flipping stations along I-95 when the local signal would die. We heard Free Bird over 20 times from Boston to WPB in 3 days. No matter where we were it followed us. Couldn't listen to the song for years after that.

I made several vacation break drives from college in upstate NY to my parents house just south of WPB in the late '70's with the same snowbird deal. Except I had to pay my own gas. I would do it in about 28 hours straight with the 55 mph speed limits.
One trip the song Native New Yorker from Odyssey followed me all the way down until near dawn outside Savanna where WABC faded out into Farm Reports and late night preachers.....

In the lower places many people with dogs get them trained to know how to avoid rattlers. Where I live I've been lucky I guess to never encountered one. I'm pretty high up in the mountains though...

What he’s saying isn’t true. The decommissioned ships had wooden hulls but were well beyond their expected service lifetime. The replacements use standoff technology to locate and disable/detonate mines, and thus are at far less risk of being damaged.

Just not true. Two years ago the Mets closer, Edwin Diaz, blew out his knee at the WBC and missed the entire season. The owners have a lot of say in what players can do because they are paying them astronomical amounts of money.
Even the reporting tonight talked a lot about the large number of big stars playing for the US at the WBC because in the past a lot of them didn't play. Even the pitchers that did pitch were all on team mandated pitch counts. And this is pre-season. I don't see the owners being this generous in the middle of the season but we'll see.

Iran is pretty much depleted of ships that can lay the large numbers of mines needed to make an effect minefield. The Strait is 25 miles across, and it's basically an American lake now. Any vessel setting out from port in iran is going to get the hairy eyeball, or simply be sunk on suspicion.

I still have to do mine. State and Federal! Thankful there's no city or county tax but I think it's a matter of time. I've been dreading it! It's much harder now that I have to calculate where I am financially every quarter and figure out if I'm having enough withheld from the various pensions and social security and what not.
Plus I have to remember to pay for the supplemental medical and dental insurance.
I usually do TurboTax. And pay extra for the audit support.
Just thinking about it makes me want to retreat to the bedroom and draw the blinds...

I'm not sure we got slammed actually. We had 2 snows here. one was maybe 8" and the other big one, maybe 18" here, but that big one wasn't as big as we had in the past. We also didn't have ice around here. We used to get a bunch of normal snows. 1 year we had 19 snow storms, but its been probably 15 years since that happened. We had a bunch of years with no snow at all, and one january was mostly 60 degree days. Its always a mixed bag but in general we haven't had the snows we normally get. It goes in cycles though. This year wasn't super cold like a few years ago when it was 4 degrees on new years eve. we might have had a few days of high teens,and maybe a few in the 20's, but for the most part its been in the 30's.

yeah it was trade off. Spend it here or spend it there. I'll sacrifice some things to not have to be out there for a few hours in the 95 degree days. The weed whacking/trimming is the killer. The guys come in like a swarm of bees and blow it out in 15 minutes. It would take me a few hours to do everything. Its a little over $200 a month, but they make everything look good. One time the FIL visited and looked around and said the grounds look nice. Mrs B says "thats because we're not doing it". lol

Not that she's in West Virginia. She's in NoVa, but I'm not sure I could bring myself to get so close to Mordor on the Potomac, especially with elected state leadership that hates me and wants me dead. Charles Town, WV is pretty close to them by my Western big state standards. WV also has a lower than average cost of living, versus higher than average in VA, and I suspect that I would like the people better too.

A hair under 2 acres, probably 1 acre clear that has to be mowed, maybe a bit less. Hard to say. they got 2 dudes on those stand up mowers that rip. one does the front, the other does the back and sides, 1 dude runs around with the weedwacker, then 1 or 2 of those guys will grab the leaf blower and blow everything clean. It's 15-20 minutes. They haul ass. The lawn mowers are fast. They rip back and forth on those things, and they never cut in the same direction, they change every week. People love the company, pretty big operation and the reviews are great.
