Saturday Night Club ONT - March 21, 2026 [D squared]

club-vintage-tavern-virginia.jpg

Welcome to Club ONT - a collaboration of The Disco and The Dino. Come in in, grab a drink or 3. Make a new friend. Hang out with an old friend. Talk about your hoops bracket. It's a laid back kind of night. Let's keep it light and fun!

Saturday Night Jokes and Other Funnies

A desperate woman was about to jump off a cliff.

An old homeless man passing by said, "Well, since you'll be gone in a few minutes anyway, how about a quickle before you go?"

She yelled, NO! You disgusting old man.

He shrugged and said, "Fine, I'll just wait for you at the bottom."

She didn't jump.

Moral of the story: counseling works! Sometimes all you need is the right kind!

---------

A man and wife were sitting around the breakfast table one morning.

He said to her: "If I were to die suddenly, I want you to immediately sell all my stuff."

"Now why would you want me to do something like that?" she asked.

He answered: "I figure that you'd eventually remarry, and I don't want some asshole using my stuff."

She looked at him and said: "What makes you think I'd marry another asshole?"

Libations of Liberty: The Top 10 Historic Drinking Sites in the US

club-hostorical-drinking-dude.jpg

Benjamin Franklin once wrote that the existence of wine is “constant proof that God loves us, and that he loves to see us happy.” As the U.S. nears her 250th birthday, what better way to celebrate than by visiting our historic sites … and grabbing a drink at their accompanying local taverns, saloons, and inns?

The Heritage Foundation recently released the Heritage Guide to Historic Sites, which pinpoints and evaluates museums, battlefields, presidential homes, and the like, scattered across the country. Now, you can journey through the U.S.’ past with this accompanying historic bar crawl guide.

Have you been to any of these watering holes? Any noteworthy ones that you know of that didn't make it to the list?

17 Ugh. Internet "Personnality" update.

S2 Underground continues to skew farther and farther anti-Iran operation. Using the weirdly available "crosshairs" on the jet (I guess an F-35, hard to tell) released by Iran to tell us that airspace is super contested and Iran has systems that can shoot down our stealth 5th aircraft. Strangely S2 didn't even question the validity of the "video" in question. Again, the one released by the Iranian govt. Just put it up there as if it was 100% real and accurate. It's beenn trending this way for a while...and of course he Epsteined during the last 60 seconds of the video.

Shawn Ryan is now choosing he Joe Kent path, or at least trying to hook in that demographic and Valhalla Marine Force Recon (same one who was sure Erica Kirk has a COCK) now says its out of control and the USA as been defeated.

Jimmy Doer? Still a retard. That hasn't changed.

I do it so you don't have to. Did these same services in college wit cocaine when a friend was over-zapped and I'd jump in rolled up bill first to save their lives and take one line for the team.

I full sized chicken roasted over a spit....Hard to screw that up, but it was fantastic, as was their special version of Baked Onion soup which was overloaded with cheese and had chunks of very tender beef througout. Good stuff.

I remember the names of their drinks were creative as well. Stuff like "Gettysburg Mule" "Cannon in the Orchard" names like that.

Well, I've been to the Alamo but not the Menger Hotel, and to the Buffalo Bill Center (if you haven't been to the firearms museum, you should go), but not the Irma Hotel.

The most historic* drinking establishment I've visited is the Turf Tavern in Oxford, England, one of the Inklings' watering holes, also the location where Bill Clinton allegedly "did not inhale."

*Tiger Town Tavern in Clemson probably doesn't qualify, although the Esso Club might; sadly, I have not actually been to the Esso Club.

89 Reading a great book about Stealth development through Lockheed and Northrop, F-117, B-1 and B-2

Also another great book called “Ignition!” about the development of hypergolic rocket fuels. Never realized they had so many, or tried so many anyway, to varying degrees of success. The Air Force wanted the longhairs to develop an additive that would work with gasoline or kerosine.

Apart from that, the author J.D. Clark, could have been a standup comedian. I didn’t understand hardly any of the chemistry involved, but the anecdotes are great.

The illegals will be afraid to fly, and will make a fuss with their Democrat representative, or their supporting NGOs will. ICE may be able to nab some of them who try to travel. It's perfect.

I saw this proposed as an idea on X/Twitter a day or so ago. I thought: brilliant idea, but of course it will never happen. Then, within 48 hours, Trump announces it. I love this idea and want to marry it. I almost hope that the Dems don't cave, so it will happen.

There are personal dramas, humor provided by Thelma Ritter in a role based on the "unsinkable" Molly Brown, great moments of heroism, and then this quiet moment.

Webb, married for twenty years to Stanwyck, insists on keeping his ten-year-old son when they divorce. His wife wants the boy, and plays her trump card: "He's not your son." He then turns against the boy and intends to disown him . . . until the climactic sinking, where he displays heroism helping women and children into boats. He discovers with pride that the boy has stayed aboard to find him. A steward comes up: "Mr. Sturges, there was a boy looking for you."

"Yes, Harry, I found him. He's my son."

174 Diogenes - it’s called “Stealth” by Peter Westwick. Goes back to the Jack Northrop design of the YB-49 and talks about the development of CAD/CAM for design by the 1980s.

They even tracked down and got one of the original test pilots during the 1940s, who tested the flying wing back then a top secret clearance so he could fly the simulator and see what he thought of the design. The problem they were concerned with was landing something that doesn’t really want to land, ground effect or whatever it’s called. The old guy said they should be good to go. I love stories like that. I bet he got a real kick out of it, too.

239 There used to be two. One call itself the "Old Absinthe House," and the other "The Original Old Absinthe House." At least the second existed in the 400 block when I lived down there and walked past them every day.

The Original had a long-running live musical comedy revue, the FudgeRipple Follies, subtitled "Nobody Likes a Smart Ass." The Farcebook page for NLaSA says it "ain't dere no more."

But I'd have phrased it slightly differently: "I am deeply saddened to report that Robert Mueller, one of American history's most corrupt lawmen, has died. Sadly, the icy grasp of the Reaper seized his withered husk before I could do it, and dragged him into Hell where he now resides with his old boss and friend Whitey Bulger."

The difference is, in the natural order of things, Republicans are generally supposed to play the role of designated piñata. Failure theater candidates, lose gracefully, go on the left wing “news” programs and accept false premises in virtually every debate issue, and prostrate themselves before the host and apologize for something we didn’t do.

I used to think they were stupid, then I realized they were complicit. They were in on it.

271 Stealth, the book, had a story about when they were developing the F-117 or its predecessor, the HaveBlue, where they needed another six square feet of steel to bring the flight characteristics of the plane under control. Being out at Area 51, and since it was a weekend when most of the office people weren't onsite, they went around looking for file cabinets in the areas they could access. They found one, took out all of the drawers, and walked off with the frame (steel is steel, after all) since it had enough steel in it to do the job.

And this jerry-rigged fix worked just fine.

The pub where the Krays used to do 'business' out of. A pub that was owned by the manager of U2 (it was decorated with gold and platinum albums). Horatio Nelson favorite pub in the SE of England, that you had to duck to get in it. Lots of short Brits back then. The fun part was I didn't know this stuff before I walked in them. They were just pubs, until you looked closer and started seeing interesting stuff that should be in a museum.

Should be sunny and dry tomorrow, if not very warm.

Even if nothing else works out, I will cook up some potstickers for hubby's lunch treat.

334 Modern cars and trucks are brutal on batteries. One, it gets extremely hot under the hood. Heat, and vibration, are what kills batteries. Stationary lead-acid batts like used for backup telephone service last 20 to 30 years.

My Ranger sucks the juice down, it passes the parasitic draw test, dropping down to about 50mA after a few minutes after shutdown. Can’t figure it out. I think, maybe the Sirius system tries to contact the mother ship or something like that, maybe in the middle of the night. I need to find that thing or the fuse, and disconnect it.

If it’s going to sit I disconnect the negative terminal. A battery charger will pay for itself many times over. I’ve tried quite a few different kinds of chargers, both talented & gifted, and the “special needs” chargers like Schumacher made for 50 years or so, the 2/6 Amp versions.

These are REALLY good, once you understand battery charge voltage is temperature dependent. It’s true they are “unregulated” but they are sized to charge the typical automotive start battery.

Start looking at the temperature compensated charge voltage charts, and let the battery cook, you’ll quickly get an idea. Measure, don’t guess!

Posted by: Common Tater at March 22, 2026 01:40 AM (ayI3s)

335 Thanks, Common Tater. Truck has some kind of *parasitic draw* that I haven't tracked down yet. Too cold/wet /don't have time lately.

Will install a shutoff switch at battery, then charge it again. And disconnect when done doing what I need to do.

This sucks, but I won't have time to track down the draw for a while yet... too much on my plate these days! I suspect the passenger side lock & window control unit-- those do not work, concurrent with the battery run-down problem.

Easy peasy.

338 Those battery cutoff switches are junk. They work, but .. they make for a bad connection. No Bueno

High current, low voltage DC is really weird stuff. Even an invisible, paper thin layer of corrosion at a ground point or cable connection, just a few hundredths of a single Ohm …. will cripple alternator output by about 30%. High resistance. Or high for this purpose.

Now, sometimes you’ll see people with an Ohmeter, or talking about “continuity”. Useless for this kind of testing. A “voltage drop test” is the only way to test for this defect. The voltmeter is set to the lowest setting, and the probes placed in parallel along one side of the connection, or connections.

The voltage lost due to corrosion will be displayed as a positive number on the voltmeter. Very good for troubleshooting and maintenance. There will always be some voltage drop, but it needs to be minimized. When everything is new it’s usually OK, but a few years or rain, or road salt, atmospheric pollution, galvanic corrosion - fooked! Every time.

I like it when people say “Yeah, the grounds look good”. What, are fucking Superman with X-Ray vision??

348 The Stealth book I mentioned earlier, points out that precision guided conventional weapons changed doctrine and everythang.

It used to be, hitting a city block was pretty good. In World war II the 8th Army Air Force was losing 4% of the planes on a mission. 10 guys dead, or wounded, or POW etc. They also had to complete 25 missions (later raised to 30, then 35). Statistically they knew they were gonna die, their chances were zero of completion. And they weren’t really always hitting their targets.

Anyway, now they can say, drop a bomb right down the ventilation shaft of the Iraqi Air Force headquarters. And the much vaunted air defense, it no worky.
