The Morning Rant

punk-monkey.jpg

Gavin Newsom is a creation of the media and of the dynastic California political families that run the state along with the lunatic leftists who are their storm troopers.

He is, frankly, dumber than a rock, and as he ages he looks more and more like a middle-aged lesbian trying to pass as a soccer mom. His media consultants seem to be equally stupid, since any 12-year-old could tell them that he looks like an effete, effeminate ass with his tight jeans and tightly crossed legs. And his neck seems to be stretching also, perhaps because of the face lifts? Or maybe that is a side effect of years of BrylCreem use?

He is obviously trying to position himself as the de facto Democrat Presidential nominee for the 2028 election, and he is gleefully embracing the tax-the-rich mantra that the Democrats can't seem to shake. But Newsom is doubling down on that tired old parasitic talking point, and actually claiming that contrary to all data, California is a better tax state!

How he does it is an exercise in rank stupidity and ignorance, both of the speaker and the audience. Why his rapt and captive listeners don't laugh him off the stage is a testament to the idiocy of the rank-and-file left.

The California tax scheme is indeed progressive, and the Texas and Florida schemes are indeed regressive, but those are technical terms that do not reflect the reality, which is that the total tax burden of everyone in California: rich, middle class, or poor, is higher than that of Texas and Florida residents. And by a lot!

And it's not just high gas taxes and sales taxes; California has an income tax, unlike Florida and Texas, so the more its residents work and make, the more they are taxed. It tops out at an unbelievable 13.3%, plus -- I'm not making this up -- a 1% "Mental Health Services" tax. And it is onerous not just on well-off people who make more than $1,000,000/year. It is an insulting 9.3% marginal rate on income over about $75,000! That's not wealthy. That is scraping by in many parts of California, with $5 gasoline and outrageously expensive electricity (more than 50% higher than average).

Hopefully the Republican nominee in 2028 will "pounce" on this inconvenient, economy-destroying rate and eviscerate Governor Brylcreem for this and many other anti-freedom and anti-growth policies that he embraces like the unrepentant economic and social leftist that he is.

3 The Tax Foundation has been aggregating all the taxes in each state for years and then ranking the states. CA doesn't usually come in last, but that's only because NJ is consistently worse, and sometimes NY is too. Newscum can throw around vocab words as much as he wants to. Anyone who pays attention to this guy is a college educated midwit (which is polite way to refer to a retard).

20 Gavin Newsom is a liar. I lived in CA for decades and moved to TX a few years ago. It's no contest... CA taxes are way higher than in TX. Gas and sales taxes both substantially higher in CA... CA has a state income tax; TX does not. Then on top of that, the basic cost of living is higher.... the difference between home prices in LA county and DFW (just one comparison)... you'll pay double-to-triple (or more) for a comparable house in LA.

47 Newsom's argument is that the bottom 20% pay more in taxes in Texas and Florida than in California.

That's nice.

They use this argument in the state of Washington as well - what they don't count, of course is transfer payments.

If you are getting "free" health care, food stamps, housing vouchers, etc., that fact that you are theoretically paying a larger share of your "income" in taxes than someone making more than you isn't terribly relevant.

Part of it is the increase in oil prices. Most gas stations price gas based on futures contracts on oil barrels purchased.

But a lot of it is just, honestly, price gouging. The rise is out of step with current future contract price increases.

Places like Costco, that seem to have policies around selling gas at precise margins, should see falls fastest and emotional exuberance dies down.

Back during the last "oil crisis", we had one gas station almost double their prices overnight. They were the first station when coming into town on the main road. After about two days, everyone noticed all the other stations had only a moderate increase. Now, if memory serves, the town shut the place down for a couple of days accusing them of just blatant gouging.

Don't remember the final outcome, but I do remember things going back to "normal"...

Daniel Biss, candidate for IL-09 in tomorrow's election, has been accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student during his tenure as a professor at the University of Chicago

Megan Wachspress, now a Stanford law lecturer, says she was that student

Amazing how she only remembered this the day before the primary.

Biss (then in his mid-20's) asked her out on a date after her class with him was over - they had a couple of dates, including a make-out session, and then he thought better of it.

Bliss' opponent is Kat Abughazaleh, a "Palestinian" who would be another Rashida Tlaib in Congress.

Well, war uncertainty was always gonna bring more increases b/c oil is a worldwide-use product...and uncertainty breeds price increase...

And businesses always use the expectations of price increases to make actual price increases. Most are not following a moral code, so if they see a path to make more money, they will take it.

So, you put the three things together and you get price increases like we have...

116 Florida doesn't have state income tax, which SEEMS good, but you have to live in Florida, which is a downside imo. For the middle and lower class, no state income tax means those groups pay more, proportionally, in taxes through sales and other taxes. That's the way every state without state income tax works.

Isn't that the generally accepted truth? Middle and lower class pay higher taxes in Texas, but the the upper class pays higher taxes in California.

California has way better public services, better parks, better hospitals, better schools. Fuck the GOP. I'll gladly pay a little more tax for a fuckload more back than any shithole red state gives you.

Whatever Newsom is doing is working for him. He's rapidly overtaking Harris in 2028 potential polling. Anyone should be opening a commanding lead over Harris after her terrible performance in 2024. I want AOC over milquetoast Newsom but at this point a sun-dried CADAVER would be better than any republican.

I want someone who believes in what they say, and Newsom is not that. He sniffs about for middle of the road liberal opinions and reaches across the aisle to conservatives. don't need him.

Also, as long term homeowners, we get a yuuuge break from property taxes thanks to the tax revolt in the '70's. My own little house is well over $1M, my annual property tax bill is just about $ 5000.

Chevron stations around me are 5.79 for regular. I saw a Mobil station charging over $7/gal for credit card regular. They weren't doing much business. Lowest I've seen locally is Arco for just about 4.90/gal.

America just revealed a capability most people didn't know existed. Electronic warfare systems mounted on Black Hawks that can shut down an ENTIRE battlefield without firing a single round.

Process that.

WHAT "SOFT KILL" DOES:
→ Shuts down ALL enemy communications instantly
→ Disables drones MID-AIR — they fall from the sky like dead birds
→ Directed energy BLINDS every sensor, radar, and targeting system in range
→ Collapses entire command networks in SECONDS
→ No gunfire. No explosions. Just silence.

Got a link for that, because:

No, this isn't true.

US forces are using established electronic warfare (like EA-18G Growlers jamming radars/drones in the current Iran strikes), but no credible reports confirm a secret "soft kill" Black Hawk system just deployed that was classified for a decade. The viral video is CGI hype mixing old concepts (microwaves, infrasound) with unverified claims—no DoD/CENTCOM evidence matches it. Standard EW exists, but this specific story is misinformation.

I read a news story recently - I think it was specific to City of L.A. - they aren't maintaining/repairing the streets anymore because of a requirement that they cut wheelchair ramps into the curbs at all four corners of an intersection - at over $50K per ramp, or north of $200K per intersection. So the streets are just deteriorating for lack of funds.....

Posted by: TheJamesMadison, discovering British horror with Hammer Films at March 17, 2026 11:47 AM (p7EWr)

This is rather amusing since Kamala has exactly as much in common with black Americans as Obama did- zero.

Both brought up in a wealthy household by mothers who were not black, sired by fathers who were black but not American.

Kamala, thankfully, doesn't have Obama's acting ability, so she will fail once again. (Obama isn't smart, though he thinks he is. But he IS an amazing actor- he knows how to read lines written for him.)

230 183 Property taxes are lower (due to Prop.13 passed back in the late 70's) in Kalifornia than in Texas or Florida, not that Gavin and his cronies haven't been trying to gut it at every opportunity. I've lived in my house for the last 30 years, and my taxes are much lower than someone that just bought a house in the neighborhood, and that was the purpose of Prop 13: to help older folks on limited income NOT lose their homes to increasing property tax rates.
Posted by: jim (in Kalifornia) at March 17, 2026 11:50 AM (ynpvh)

We bought in 1992. Property taxes are 1% of the homes value, limited to a 2% increase per year. You get a $7500 homestead exemption, which is a joke considering where home prices are.

Yeah, I focused on the quagmire half of the statement, but it's clear the objective is to degrade the Iranian government and its ability to do anything. Seems simple enough.
Some secondary goals which might be nice but not necessary would be an Iran which rejects the mullahcracy and is no longer a threat to the region, a freer and prosperous country yadda yadda.
But fucking up their shit until they can't do shit seems like a clear and achievable objective.

Gold Star wife here.
My husband didn’t die for Israel. He died because this war has been targeting Americans for decades. Long before most people ever started paying attention.
We didn’t suddenly stumble into this because of Israel. Our service members have been in the crosshairs of Iranian-backed terror networks for years. That’s the reality families like mine have lived with.
So spare me the talking point that this is “Israel’s war.”
Some of us have already paid for it in American blood.

347 California has an income tax, unlike Florida and Texas

The absence of an income tax isn't really always a wonderful thing. Texas property taxes are sky-high, and the oft-overlooked part from that is that property taxes are due whether you are employed or not.

Yes, there is a lot of other stuff that goes along with this: what are fees? what are the sales taxes? how are they applied? what are the relative tax rates for income & property? How do functions split between State-duty versus individual citizen? And, overall, how does it all add up to the total tax burden of the States' residents?

You really have to get down to the accounting entry level to do a fair comparison of one tax scheme versus another. I get so tired of the "they have no income tax" as if that's the greatest thing ever. It ain't. The taxman gets his due.

“Price gouging” is a term used by economic illiterates.

Besides, as the pandemic demonstrated, not even markets set prices. The people who set the price? The police. (Because businesses cannot set prices based on supply and demand. That’s called “price gouging” in this allegedly capitalist country. There are laws on the books preventing this. Hence the shortages during the pandemic.)

Posted by: Cow Demon at March 17, 2026 01:28 PM (kBisb)

Because my property taxes are 3x higher in Texas than they were anywhere else I've lived.

Texas is very different from other States in what it funds. Because of Texas' greater emphasis on local governance & control, the State of Texas simply doesn't require as much money as other States do; the funding is kept more local. Thus, the State of Texas doesn't need an income tax, but the local communities need more bucks, and these come mostly from property taxes - which is why my property taxes are so high.
