No plan survives first contact with the enemy
Who said that is debatable, but it was probably von Moltke (or Clausewitz). But it is axiomatic, and the destruction of Iran's leadership has thrown the entire country into chaos, with its military response simply reactive, without any strategic goal other than to cause damage wherever it can. That is not a plan for victory. In addition to its military's lack of coordination, its justly feared internal security apparatus is able to detain or kill street protesters, but has lost central command, so there is very little intelligence being gathered on the growing rebellion. It is a recipe for disaster on all fronts, and regardless of whether the Mullahs can retain control, or the army or IRGC stages a coup, the days of Iran being a regional power and exporting its brand of Shia Islam terror across the world are over. And all of this was accomplished with superb human and technical intelligence, real-time military action on that intelligence, and amazingly accurate munitions that simply did not exist a generation ago. Imagine the beginning of World War II, If Great Britain had been able to kill Hitler and Göring and Himmler and Goebbels and Bormann and Keitel and Raeder and Donitz and von Ribbentrop and a few dozen others at the top of the Nazi hierarchy. Or far more chilling...imagine if in May 1940 Nazi Germany had killed Churchill and Bevin and Portal and Montgomery and Dowding and Slim. The counter-argument from the increasingly unhinged supporters of Iran is that martyrdom is a victory. Well, then in a few weeks when the entire hierarchy of the Iranian Mullahcracy is dead, we should declare victory for Iran! Then the people of Iran can reconstitute some semblance of a government, and we can leave, with the admonition: "Don't make us come back!" [Crossposted at CutJibNewsletter and X/Twitter]. But we should also keep in mind that Iran's military and defense/offense capabilities are nowhere near pier level, and their commanders are retarded. It's a Temu military. Their Chinese weapons don't work. Their navy and air force are little more than target practice. They apparently buy their drones from Target.
So yea, we are making this look very easy, but it helps to have an vastly inferior enemy led by idiots. Suffice to say that, just like with Iraq a few decades ago, the Iranian military power was drastically, drastically over-rated.

That 37% is based almost entirely on the 2020 GAMAAN study. The data collection relied heavily on online, viral sampling, and snowball methods. It almost certainly oversampled younger, more online-savvy urban Iranians, who probably are more secular or at least think it's trendy to say so.
This would be like trying to get an accurate poll of political affilition in USA if you sampled mostly young hipsters in blue cities.
Do I think Iran is 99% Muslim, as the regime says? No. But it's way higher than 37%, IMO.

Read a substack posting earlier by another one of the Iranian expat experts that spun the tale that the Iranian regime expected what's happening to happen, and set up a structure for survival in this eventuality, which is currently being employed, but that really meant that it was on the verge of collapse. The Iranian leadership had to make a decision for the past two weeks. Do we fight to the death or give up? They chose fight to the death.
Now they are all gone and we're starting to see the next layer make the calculation. And it appears the first and most important sign was the current President letting everyone know that he's not really in charge and pretty please with sugar on top, don't drone me bro.
The Basij isn't showing up.

Guns vs missiles.
I wonder if the kickbacks on missiles is so much higher because they are one use, so a gun platform (A-10 is built around the gun but also carries missiles) is just no where near as sexy to the top brass.

I was the boy child's scout leader and ran into this exact phenomenon. I thought I was teaching a generation of kids to enjoy, appreciate, and be safe in the wild. More than none of their parents wondered if I was just trying to get them in a tent.
