110 Oaks and Wild Boars (1865)
Karl Bodner 1809–93

Wikipedia, Kaarl Bodner

It begins, "Johann Carl Bodmer[1] (11 February 1809 – 30 October 1893) was a Swiss-French printmaker, etcher, lithographer, zinc engraver, draughtsman, painter, illustrator, and hunter. Known as Karl Bodmer in literature and paintings, his name was recorded as Johann Karl Bodmer and Jean-Charles Bodmer, respectively. After 1843, likely as a result of the birth of his son Charles-Henry Barbizon, he began to sign his works K Bodmer.

Bodmer was well known in Germany for his watercolours, drawings, and aquatints of cities and landscapes of the Rhine, Mosel, and Lahn rivers. After he moved to France following his return from an expedition in the American West, he became a member of the Barbizon School, a French landscape painting group from the mid-19th century. He created many oil paintings with animal and landscape motifs, wood engravings, drawings, and book illustrations. For his work, Bodmer was made a Knight in the French Legion of Honour in 1877." More.

Great body of work. Became recognized for his depictions of large oak trees, i.e., “The Bodmer Oak,” in an 1865 painting by Claude Monet.

Would hang.

116 Interesting painting and technique. It is almost photo-realistic. I like the way he captures the dim sky against the even darker trees and the shadows they cast. He captures the feel of late autumn or early winter with the leafless trees while the fallen leaves still show fall colors. The boars are resting in the shadows, still present but soft and indistinct. It is restful and feels very quiet.

Don't think I would hang this. It's too dark for casual viewing but it does set a mood and capture a moment.

I'll see your zero and raise you four.

With his gruff personality, Dr. McCoy was not known for his good bedside manner, so it's not surprising he would report deaths rather bluntly. Although the phrase, "He's dead, Jim," is often associated with the death of so-called red shirts, Dr. McCoy never actually used this exact wording in that way. Surprisingly, the exact phrase, "He's dead, Jim," was only spoken by Dr. McCoy four times on Star Trek: The Original Series, although he used some variation of "He's dead" many more times. Here is every time McCoy uttered this now iconic phrase.

I do NOT put carrots in my chili. However, I did find out I like raw chilled carrot sticks on the side. The cool, sweet crunch of the carrots makes a nice contrast with the smooth heat of the chili. (Of course, well buttered made from scratch cornbread is not an option but a necessity.)

SCOTUS is doing fine on this front. They could go nuclear, they could, but them not doing it is understandable.

They've slapped down a lot. Most appeals courts have learned the lesson and are killing things quickly. It's really limited to like three circuits, and only one of them (the 1st) is terribly consistently trying to undermine things still.

289 My cheap AR outfitted with a SureFire light would take care of that group, and we can all help make the chorizo sausage.

Know the difference between red chorizo and green? Green has some heat compared to red. When living out in CO, I enjoyed the breakfast burritos from a food truck in Louisville, where they made them with half green and half red chorizo. Green chorizo is from Toluca, and is spiced with cilantro, green chiles, and tomatillo.

Nope. Scotus should actually take a page out of the Warren court on desegregation cases and simply summarily reverse the lower court decisions, injunctions, and stays that are contrary to law.

No need to write elaborate opinions on matters like District Court Murphy's disregard for law and precedent that took three times for the 1st Circuit to finally slap down.

The whole mess created by the idiotic and segregation era blue slip policy is something else that Scotus needs to clean up. A committee policy that denies a president the right to appoint people and for the Senate to either confirm or reject that appointment means that we are separating law into blue states and red states along with district attorneys. That undermines the whole appointment provision in the Constitution.

The whole senatorial courtesy idiocy is a tradition, not the Constitution and fwiw, Congress trying to invest courts with the power to appoint District Attorneys is patently unconstitutional if you take a view of a unitary executive.
