I worked for a water hauling company for a few years. One of our drivers hit a bull that had gotten out onto the highway. The truck caught on fire and burned completely, but, luckily, he escaped. The bull ran away. The next day, the brand inspector went out and found the bull outside the pasture. He got out to take a look at the damage on the bull and his brand, but the bull came after him, knocked him down, rolled him up and started back for more. The guy pulled his sidearm and shot the bull several times before the bull ran away. The brand inspector had a broken arm. I'm not sure what happened to the bull.

We've been with Farmers for years and they're OK. My wife's six-month old car got totaled in a hail storm a few years ago, as in multiple broken windows and every body panel had multiple divots. Farmers was easy to deal with and treated us right. We have a local agent and he's been very helpful. I don't know how they are on price, years ago I shopped around and Farmers wasn't the cheapest, but were within $25 or so per year of the cheapest. Are they taking already shitty pizza and then deep frying? Most likely. I like thinking outside the box, though. Maybe it’s good. I like making breakfast burritos, or basically wrapping scrambled eggs and cheddar, sausage etc in a soft tortilla. Char ‘em good on the stove burner and stuff ‘em full. One thing I’ve been meaning to try is smother them in sausage gravy. Not as tasty as scratch biscuits but should be good. Posted by: Common Tater at March 13, 2026 10:57 PM (Ms2yN) 117

I have Jersey Manufacturer for car insurance. We got it because of Mrs B's job. The requirement used to be you had to work for a manufacturer in jersey, but not sure if thats the case these days. By myself I would probably qualify for yang poon. We have had it for years. They have been very good. I have one of their subsidiaries for the classic car insurance and its cheap as shit. The car is insured for 40K, and it only costs a few hundred a year.

They put subtitles on him. I'd imagine the ol' boy was pissed if he found out about it. Those intense regional dialects and accents mostly don't exist today... movies, radio, and TV killed 'em off. Adam Clayton, bass guitarist of U2, was born today in 1960. If you don't care for Bono, you may like this one off of the "rockumentary" album Rattle And Hum, since B.B. King's stage presence takes over; it's also just one of my favorite songs of theirs. Since this is about Adam, I suggest listening to the absences of the bass, how he builds tension by removing the steady presence he built up, and then a single note is enough for an emphasis:
U2 - When Love Comes To Town (Official Music Video) https://youtu.be/_TGU35i8czo David Draiman, lead singer of Disturbed and fellow baritone, was born today in 1973. Siiigh. 🙄 Our agent hooked us up with Progressive years ago. We know their rep, and have long considered finding another company. That said, their rates were the lowest; they promptly paid the other guy in a fender-bender that was, technically, our fault; didn't raise our rates after that; and our agent said they're the most likely to pay out willingly and promptly. Hope we don't have to test that. And that they don't find out we're White and MAGA. And Morons. Oh, and their commercials don't bother me because I don't watch commercial teevee. Accents? This native Oklahoman went to college in Wisconsin. I spoke standard urban major network television. No sub-titles needed.
Sitting in my room one day, friends asked about my lack of accent. I tried to imitate a rural Oklahoma accent. Naw, I said, that's more Deep South. I tried another accent, but decided that was too South Texas. Again I tried an accent, but, no, that was more Arkansas-Missouri hillbilly. It was at that moment that the only other student there from Oklahoma was looking for me, and from down the hall, we heard this loud gal's voice hollering, "Wharr's th' gaahyy from OAK-luh-HOma?" I exclaimed, "That's it! That's the accent!" Followed by, "Quick! Close the door!" True story. When I was a kid, you could go down to the Monongahela, throw a line in the water with a worm on it and catch a catfish. The river was lined with steel mills and heavy industry for miles, and everything got dumped in the river. China Owns Canada's Only Antimony Mine And Shuttered It In Critical Minerals Power Play
Posted by: Braenyard - some Absent Friends are more equal than others _ at March 14, 2026 01:21 AM (BENy5) FWIW, I have a nice specimen of stibnite crystals, came from central Montana. Stibnite is the major ore of antimony. Stuff is pretty widespread, but rarely found in large mineable deposits. But there are plenty of little mines, maybe worked for gold and silver, that had stibnite as an accessory mineral. If antimony was really valuable, and nearly impossible to get on the market, those little mines could be reopened, or their waste dumps reworked, and antimony produced. Probably the reason that particular mine is Canada's only antimony mine is that it's one of those metals where one or two big producers own the market, and the price is based more on long-term contracts than a spot market.
Close the door!" Posted by: mindful webworker The "Minnesota Accent," as spoken by Marge Gunderson in Fargo, is a real thing. Oh, yah shure, ya betcha, donchaknow. But it's like hillbilly-speak everywhere. A small group of multi-generational rural folk speak that way. Go to Minneapolis? Or Fargo/Moorhead? Nobody there talks like that, unless they're visiting from the farm near Bemidji. You might hear a bit of the "Swedish Chef" sing-song cadence, since most of the MN settlers were Norwegians and Swedes. One of my brothers, who moved to Missouri (Mizz-uhr-uh), was accused of having a Canadian accent. Posted by: mikeski, fer shure at March 14, 2026 01:54 AM (VHUov) 312

Re unaccented American English: There's a good reason the Specs Howard School of Broadcast Journalism was located in Detroit. From Detroit south thru Toledo (where I grew up) south to Bowling Green OH to US-6 and west to the Fulton-Lucas county line, the locals have the same pronunciation and grammar/syntax as was taught at Specs Howard. South of US-6 and west of Lucas and Wood Counties, one hears "warsh", not "wash", and dropped infinitives (my car "needs washed", not "needs to be washed"), regardless of demographics or educational level. The language taught at Detroit is the "modern broadcast" model, very much different from the voices in the old newsreels and shows such as those Weasel puts up weekly. Back then, the voice of choice was akin to "Locust Valley Lockjaw" (think Thurston and Lovie Howell on Gilligan's Island)...
