Mornin'
I was looking online at the Apple laptop mentioned yesterday (Neo?). I then looked at the other Apple laptop offerings, as a curiosity. My main issue with them is price. They are pricey. I can afford it but I'm naturally cheap. I blame the Scottish bloodlines. Anyway, I'm entertaining buying a Apple laptop. Garry Rafferty died in January 2011 from severe alcoholism. Prior to this, while in the middle of complete alcoholic chaos he released his final album, Life Goes On, in November 2009. It is a mix of religious music and contemplative originals. To me it is a clear statement that he knew he was dying and this work would be likely his last. During 2010 he spent living with Enzina Fuschini until November 2010 when he was put on life support due to liver failure. The final song from Life Goes On is Silent Night and was arranged with multi layered vocals, mostly if not all his, and paired with a sparse droning horn accompanist. He will always be one of my favorite composers and performers.

Evening and morning for all on this Friday the 13th! Hey, it's a Friday, so it's still the consummation devoutly to be wished.
Like you, Warai-otoko, I've found these 13ths to be lucky, or at least no more unlucky for me than a Monday the 17th, to pick an example out of the air. I've always understood that Fri. 13th's bad rep came from two ideas: that Jesus was crucified on a Friday, and that there were thirteen diners at the Last Supper. (Amazing how people can connect wildly separate ideas -- like peas rolling around on a plate, in the immortal words of Lord Peter Wimsey.) Anyway! 'Tis chilly this morning for here, 58 F. I'll do a light workout and then, to enjoy this weather, head out to breakfast before washing the car and hitting Walmart. Howzabout choo? >>My main issue with them is price. They are pricey. Pricey compared to what, garbage wintel laptops that have half the build quality and half the life expectancy? At the end of the day when you buy a Mac laptop, what you are getting is a well built machine, with a well thought out, non annoying OS that hasn’t changed its essential look, feel and operation in 40 years, running Unix under the hood, that’s going to last you, a decade or more. You cannot say that for any wintel laptops. You can also run Windows on a Mac, seamlessly with parallels. So you don’t even have to give up your windows software if you switch. Now a MacBook Neo is not going to be able to run a vm of windows 11 well, but the option will be there. The Neo might be the biggest disruption in tech since the iPhone. 55:Thomas Bender, my current laptops (2 of them) are former Windows 10 machines but now are Linux Mint. I do have a Beelink mini PC with Win11 on it, for now. That's going to change to Linux too, at some point. I'm thinking of adding an Apple laptop (Neo or Air) to my collection of IT gadgets that I probably don't need but want. I'm just not that familiar with Apple products and they are more expensive. Just so happens I can afford one now.

If you like it, and it will last you for several years until the SSD is full and it slows down, you can always go for an Air or Macbook Pro. If you don't need the screen and keyboard with the laptop you could always try a Mac Mini (for the same price as the upgraded Neo) and hook it up to your existing setup. I'll have to replace my 2017 model iMac eventually, and I still don't know if I'll go with a Mini or laptop when I do. You can run windows seamlessly in Parallels, I run Photoshop, Autocad, MS Project and Visio in my Win11 vm. In fact, Parallels has a coherence mode that integrates the Win11 vm environment into the Mac environment, you don't even know you're running a vm. If you're simply talking about being on a pure linux os system like Arch or Mint, then yeah, Wine Sux, Virtualbox sux. I have used both throughout my career. Macs are superior - long ago, in a galaxy far away. You can get the same performance from a PC for thousands less. I haven't had a problem with my Dells breaking down, but for one that had a main processor go - which they replaced for free. And for me, the main draw for Macs was the stability of the OS and software, which is long gone. The damn things crash constantly. They're fine as consumer toys/light office use for people who love the convenience of the ecosystem for integration with their other consumer-grade toys. But the days of Macs being competitive for industrial use are in the rearview.
