Puppy has too much blanket for too little dog.

Big dog needs his comfort wooby.

Self-soothing beaver.

Graduation day for service dogs.

Punch the monkey is now an XXXtreme daredevil.

Me when I drop the remote under the couch.

Missing dog, answers to Chewbacca or "Chewie."

Service with a slobber.

It's funny when dogs disobey their masters.

Buying $60 of cat toys: No reaction at all. Throwing a piece of random crap on the ground: Endless playtime possibilities.

Anteater plays. Keep your eye on its real head. It's like three card monty.

13 Evening, everybody,

Ace writes, "Buying $60 of cat toys: No reaction at all." Which is why I avoid buying new cat toys in the main. My furry thugs are just as happy with crinkly paper like Christmas wrapping, or with cardboard boxes. They have a basket of toys which were bought for their predecessors, and a few specifically for them. They love those items and often fish them out themselves for a play session.

By the way: Today is big black Stirling's fourth birthday! Or so I think. He was, the shelter told me, three months old on 6/11/22, so I went with 3/11 as his birthday. His "sister" Dagny is about two weeks younger. I have the date on her papers, but don't recall the exact date right now.

This was his first offense (ever, in his career) and if things had gone sideways it would have only hurt him.
So now he's just waiting to see if he's going to get a reprimand in his personnel file, or a suspension. He's pretty well liked and respected there, so we are hoping for the best.
He's never been in a situation like this, been working in factories his whole career, pretty much, and he is a very safe employee. Been really stressful for him.

105 Well, thank you all for the prayers. Looks like MrTea isn't going to lose his job over this. Nothing from HR and the plant manager yet, but we are thinking if they were going to fire him, they would just do it.

106 TecumsehTea-- prayers up for your hubby to keep his job.

One of our senior employees was on a tour through production area (high speed presses) and had forgotten his safety goggles. "Oh, it's just a quick walk-thru" so he didn't go back to fetch a pair.

As (bad) luck would have it, a punch shattered and shrapnel pierced his eye. He lost the eye. Another fraction of inch, and that shrapnel would have entered his brain. Very serious. He "retired" after that, and gave us all a safety lecture once he had recovered a bit.

I believe he consulted on some projects later, as a contract rather than regular employee.

148 Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) violations (29 CFR 1910.147) consistently rank in the top 5 of OSHA's annual list of most frequently cited safety standards, ranking #4 in 2025 with 2,177 violations. These violations are a critical focus due to dangers of unexpected startup during maintenance, etc.

Employers aren't trying to be evil in those cases but, as you can see, they're common OSHA violations, carrying very heavy penalties. (Violations are capable of causing terrible injuries - amputations, burns, being overcome by chemicals, gasses, etc. - depending.)

Presses are never limited to just one form of energy & the best operators can miss steps if not carefully adhering to sops.

A letter of disciplinary action and retraining - necessary for insurance and possibility as evidence of good safety and health practices being enforced - would be appropriate for the 1st (and last, hopefully) offense.

Again, good luck.

To be fair, it was during the pipeline era up here, and there were a lot of oil kids here from Louisiana and Texas who had never experienced snow, let alone below zero temps. Girls at the bus stop wearing panty hose or something equally stupid. Pretty well cured that.

193 152. Yes, usually terrible injuries if not death. And then the attempts to sue employers for work-related injuries. Everyone suffers.

I had so many inspections related and those in chicken processing plants really stuck with me. A young man climbed onto a table to unjam an auger. His booted foot slipped and became trapped in the auger. Physicians had to come to help the freeing of the kid's foot which had to be amputated. (His family didn't speak English.)

A woman from the USDA was in the aisle of a processing room being cleaned. She slipped & her arm also went into an auger, one being washed. She, too, incurred an amputation...same hospital's physicians responding though plants were miles apart.

And when everyone hears Workers Comp vs a big lawsuit, it hits the fan.

195 I read a book about a tornado that wiped out a KS town in the 50s. One boy was taken up in the tornado but survived it. He was left with wooden splinters in his body, that would work their way out. He had one in his knee that the doctors couldn't remove. He was in his 20s when he heard it pop. It had finally gotten infected enough to work its way out. Interesting book. They did rebuild the town because the mayor wouldn't let it die

203 I had a boss at the print shop who told a horror story to new employees about the laminator. No idea if it's true.

"Never run the laminator alone. Never run it with your sleeves or hair down. If you must break one rule, never break both. We had a lady do that and we got back she was dead, with her scalp torn off."

I know one print shop horror story that is definitely true though. We used to run these K-M high speed B&W digital presses for large volume document printing. The ADUs on these motherfuckers would get to about half the temperature of the sun when they were at full tilt.

One day one jammed, nothing uncommon, but for reasons known only to G-d, this guy withdrew the assembly and, without letting it cool, he just opened the metal cover on the developer - with his bare hand. Former hand, anyway.

207 My dad was a corpsman in the late 50’s, he helped give new recruits battlefield medical training at Ft. Sam Houston. They would show some films with real footage and he and the other staff there would make bets on how many helmets would hit the ground (ie, how many recruits would pass out) at the scene where some poor guy with a stomach wound was rolled over and all his intestines came popping out right in front of the camera.

I guess when you’re in that biz you develop a dark sense of humor.
