The Morning Rant: Family Dinner Is Now A Bad Thing?

punk-monkey.jpg

It's easy to despise the media when they willfully, transparently, stupidly misrepresent absolutely everything said and done by their political enemies. And it is abundantly clear that their political enemies are the American people.

An apparently anodyne announcement from RFK Jr., the current HHS Secretary, about the importance of preparing and eating meals with family has been tortured and manipulated and twisted into something bad. Hell, family meals used to be axiomatic in America, and the idea that there is anything remotely wrong with it is frankly insane. It is an objective good, and it is backed up with a fair amount of data that show families that eat together are better in many ways.

Whether that is cause or effect is another question, but the idea that there is anything wrong with advocating for family meals is ridiculous, and those who suggest it are stupid, or evil, and probably both.

Here is the unspeakably awful "Daily Beast," with a short video of RFK Jr's statement. How they got "anti-demons" is beyond me, but then I have not been trained as a serial liar and manipulator. I apologize in advance for the link to that sewer, but I couldn't find another video, except from another sewer rat...Don Lemon.

RFK Jr. Gives Bonkers 'Anti-Demons' Health Advice

And here is some well-done push back.

Apparently, Eating Dinner With Your Family Is Now 'Bonkers'

Secretary Kennedy’s message about the strength of community and the importance of sharing meals together should surprise absolutely no one. Like much of his and President Trump’s platform, it’s rooted in something (seemingly) fairly radical these days: common sense.

But common sense doesn’t generate clicks like outrage does. Because let’s be honest for a moment here…

It’s not bonkers to say we’re in a cultural — even spiritual — battle right now.

It’s not bonkers to say that spending more time with your community is good for your health.

It’s not bonkers to want kids spending less time glued to their phones and more time interacting with actual humans.

This is an entirely unsurprising response, because it is an entirely uncontroversial point. But the rabid left is maniacally fixated on anything that the Trump administration advocates, and they will attack it as if the administration is recommending that we eat and serve stray children and puppies for family dinner. Never mind that just a few years ago, RFK Jr. was the darling of the left, not just because of his famous name, but because he was seen as a brave warrior in the fight against traditional culture (even though he wasn't).

But now? He is a tool of TRUMP! And a traitor to boot, so he must be destroyed, even when advocating for an unalloyed good thing. Of course family meals are an integral part of traditional American culture, so the left is attacking two things here. But that is who they are...they dispose America and American Exceptionalism, and President Trump is a Colossus of those two things! They have to drag him and his supporters down into the muck!

Sigh.

I wish he would stop making me like a Kennedy. But here we are.
I mentioned this to my NP when they announced that HRT for women wouldn't have warnings or whatever. She said, I know just how you feel but... the heart wants what the heart wants! My doc said he's spent years trying to get ladies to take the HRT so they can feel good again and trying to convince them that those warnings were overkill. He was thrilled with that decision to remove the warnings.

28 Family dinner at my house growing up . . . five nights a week my mother, father, brother, and I ate at the dining table, something Mom cooked. She made good bacon, shrimp, baked potatoes, and breaded veal (remember when veal was affordable?). Her hamburgers and steaks weren't so good:
She mixed onion bits into the former and picked cuts of meat with thick, hard to chew fat for the latter. Still, it was solid food.

Two nights a week, when my father was away, she usually served us our dinners on trays in front of the TV. I have better memories of those times than I do of the other.

29 Jay Timmons and the National Association of Manufacturers loyally supported Trump. Trump unleashed RFK Jr. and MAHA to wreck member food manufacturing businesses by driving up costs, leading to increasingly higher grocery prices.

The fact that a certified anti science nutcase like RFK Jr was touted by Trump before the election, everyone knew who he was, and still Trump got elected vindicates Asimov 46 years ago: The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.

When Michelle Obama said school lunches should have a vegetable the right lost their damn minds calling it Marxism and communism and socialism and now when Trump/rfk say that and more and they want states to ban fast food and they want outlets to prove it’s safe to sell certain sugary drinks to teens it’s “yeah make us healthy!!”

Seems Trump’s policies and actions might be eating big corpos bottom lines. But they all funded and backed a know grifter and failed businessman. Too bad the little guy, again, gets screwed.

32 This is just another example of commies trying to destroy the family and any allegiance or loyalty to anything other than The Party.

This is Commie 101: destroy the family, create despair and hopelessness, and offer a fake salvation. If that don't work, then just line the nonbelievers up against the wall and shoot them.

Yet the commies will never ever criticize goatfuckers for their Iftar dinners or communal child rape clubs. As of today, commies see themselves aligned with the goatfuckers in destroying western culture. Commies don't realize that they will be next on the head-chopping block.

"Trump is a sexual predator" is the base of a lot of the critique. Vance, who's been married one time and is having his fourth child with his current wife without a hint of impropriety is different. Yes, but we don't want artificial junk food that's terrible for most folks' health to BE perceived better than healthier options, not while we're paying for half the country's healthcare.

That's without even considering what the artificial dye might do.

And it's not like we haven't figured out how normal foods, like beet and spinach and tumeric, can color stuff...

So, when you have something that provides zero health benefit (and actually negative health benefit in use) and possible additional health harms, it should have been an easy no at the time...but things that got through the 90s and 00s on the non-denial loophole...

Maybe.

But it, I think, stems from a female desire to preserve the moral order. Partisan women can get really worked up to hate on a political figure they're supposed to hate if improper sex is involved.

It's what, I think, really fed the intensity of Trump hate from the left. Something I think the Democrat Party will just find hard to recreate with Vance who doesn't have the same biography that lends itself to that narrative.

And, since the left is majority women now, this effort to try and paint a good ole boy Marine who made good, went to Yale, and married the pretty brown lady as a sexual predator will just not work that well.

_________

Lotsa rage-bait on this topic. The "67 breeds" comes from a voluntary initiative aimed at breeders. It's not a dog ban or even proposed dog ban. It's basically a database and breed tool that identifies potential health issues in various breed combinations. There is evidence that breeding and cross-breeding frenzy has created dog breeds with physical and health issues. This was designed to address that.

There is a difference between what leftists scream at each other and what they can convince soft-partisans of.

Clarence Thomas married to a white woman is in the weeds stuff.

"The GOP presidential candidate is a racist, even though he has a brown wife," is the kind of stuff that actually gets to the less perennially online in the lead up to an election.

227 Lotsa rage-bait on this topic. The "67 breeds" comes from a voluntary initiative aimed at breeders. It's not a dog ban or even proposed dog ban. It's basically a database and breed tool that identifies potential health issues in various breed combinations. The point is that the anti-Vance narratives will just have less fire and less broad support on the left.

The hard left and dedicated Partisans will keep it up. Vance will be trying to break down their doors to rape them every night.

But the ones who don't pay as much attention? "Vance? That guy? Really? Nah, I'm not going to protest over him being a sexual predator."

That is correct, and why I would never choose him for the GOP nom. It was a very ill-advised effort to quickly catapult himself to statesman status, but showed a devastating lack of both political acumen and ethics.

Someone noted recently that Vance has spoken about the Great Replacement and they think that will be a driver in the 2028 election. The media of course will probably be at “and it’s good that it’s happening” by then.

CNN and the rest of the MFM are a bunch of pussies. Say something outrageously anti-American and then when normal people push back, make excuses "oops, mistaken tweet", "some say" etc.

Reminds me of the infamous incident where some Hollywood organization advertised some event for African-Americans in the movie industry. Charlize Theron showed up, and was chagrined when they wouldn't let her in the door, despite the fact that she's more African than 99% of Hollywood.

Beautiful woman, but profoundly stupid.

When I was in junior high, pizza consisted of an opened hamburger bun with tomato sauce and two slices of American cheese on it, baked long enough to melt the cheese. It was still way better than what was depicted in photos of Michelle Obama's fraudulent healthy lunches.

I had the impression in junior high that the cafeteria staff didn't like us much, and would put out the cheapest crap they could get away with. They got in trouble eventually for things like the fake pizza. The Obama Lunches program encouraged cafeteria staff to wallow in their worst tendencies. I wouldn't be surprised if the staff pocketed some money.

Obama lunches were to food as Obamacare was to actual health insurance.

I would blame a staffer for coming up with her entire scheme but its so bad and stupid that only someone in charge would have let it through.

And the funniest part? Leftists are now saying "you hated Michele Obama for saying the same things as RFK!"

Um... she didn't even begin to say anything remotely similar beyond "kids should eat healthy." A statement so self evident that its insulting to even bring up.

253 We often talk about the memories we have of big family gatherings around the table- priceless. While we are empty nesters, we still eat at the table and I bring out the good stuff for Sunday dinner, why not.
We also as kids ate what Mom cooked or was brought home. Mom was not going to cook a separate meal for each of us, nor would we have asked that. We are glad when parents hold to the you eat what is made rather than be short order cooks.
