FBI Director Kash Patel recently fired nearly a dozen FBI agents who worked on special counsel Jack Smith's probe into President Trump's classified documents case -- and CBS News has learned from multiple sources that many of those agents were working on global counterintelligence cases, including some involving Iran.
One source called the firings "devastating to the FBI's Iran program."
The FBI said it still maintains robust counterintelligence operations across the U.S.

1) I spoke to four FBI execs and supervisors, all of whom confirmed that only 3 of the individuals fired actually worked the Iran issue
2) Further - all called the quote that it's "devastating to the Iran program" total BS. Not just because it's 3 people - but FBI surges resources and personnel from all over the country to prepare for these things.
3) It's a false suggestion to begin with. The FBI had a record year on CounterIntel last year (+35% arrests, Six of the Ten Most Wanted fugitives captured, etc) - all involving a massive operation, not something run by three people out of one unit.
This is a transparent spin job by people mad about firings.

Mayor Brandon Scott's administration blew taxpayer cash on over-the-top perks for staffers -- including $52,589 on grub in the Mayoral Suite at Ravens and Orioles games -- in a gross violation of the city's "public funds" rules, according to baltimorebrew.com.

James, however, didn't actually leave City Hall and is still on the payroll as the mayor's $190,000-plus-a-year senior adviser.
In total, the office spent $801,839 on meals and catering, $42,691 on floral arrangements and funeral services, and $45,646 "unreconciled" expenses between July 2022 and November 2025, according to the outlet.

An elementary school in Fresno was forced to file a police report after a child sex offender running for city council held a press conference just steps away.
Rene Campos, 41, a candidate in Fresno City Council's District 7 race, spoke Friday on a street outside St. John's Cathedral to address outrage over his past, the Fresno Bee reported.
He was about 10 feet away from Big Picture Elementary School, a public charter school, which later contacted local cops.

It remains unclear whether Campos is subject to any specific court orders, restraining orders or individualized restrictions related to his offense, or whether his limitations fall solely under California's general sex offender registration requirements.
Campos was about 10 feet away from Big Picture Elementary School in Fresno, which later contacted local cops.
Esparza said the council is considering legislation to prevent people like Campos from seeking office. Other city leaders were also furious.
"It has come to my attention and even hit national news that we have a registered sex offender that is currently running for Fresno City Council," Councilwoman Annalisa Perea said in a statement.

Paxton finishing second did not help his case. For whatever reason, he raised little and spent little. Spent about 5 million in a huge state, raised ten, has about 5 in the bank. Cornyn has about the same in the bank but can call on a lot more from teh Senate Fund that hurts all other GOP candidates in close races like for Ossoff's seat, Collins in ME, and the North Carolina race. Under its rules, incumbents get first dibs on that money.

Talarico winning the primary instead of Crockett weakens the case for Paxton even more as the DC Senate types are thinking it will require a lot of money to be spent in the general there that would not need to be spent if Cornyn was the nominee.

Without going into the weeds of viewing the entrails of campaign data from the primary yet, finishing second and Cornyn's statewide strength, Paxton is in a weaker electability position although policy wise he is the far better choice.

Lot of moving parts but Cornyn is not liked as much by the base as is Paxton but Paxton has some passionate haters in the TX GOP establishment ( I think Paxton is in the right on this btw on the impeachment bullshit, etc.) but he is having trouble raising funds while Cornyn isn't.

A runoff where Paxton and Cornyn go and blow a bunch of money until May 26th means that other Senate GOP priorities cannot be funded. And then for the General, Paxton will require more funding than Cornyn to beat Talarico. If Paxton had finished above Cornyn in the runoff, his argument would have been you want the front leader to step aside? but being second, harder to make that argument. Last, we don't know who Hunt may endorse.

The old rule is polling below 50 is a problem but that is normally for a two party race, not a three. Three or more in an election very often result in the incumbent squeezing by or a Dem squeezing in like in the Palin Begich Peltota race in AK House seat in 2022.

#Nicaragua’s Attorney General’s Office has reportedly confiscated BHMB Mining, a U.S.-Canadian company with an ~$80 million investment, and reportedly handed it over to a "Chinese businessman." Beyond corruption, it's the direct seizure of Americans' property. The report details how the plant was occupied and transferred by the Nicaraguan state. This should surprise no one doing business in that nation.
