He was Beto O'Rourke 2.0--a new and improved version of the liberal darling who could "finally turn Texas blue" by appealing to normal Americans. Meanwhile, a billionaire-funded super PAC linked to Talarico--who repeatedly assailed the influence of billionaire-funded super PACs--relentlessly attacked Crockett on the airwaves. The Lone Star Rising PAC, started by a longtime friend of Talarico just days before the candidate launched his Senate campaign, spent millions on negative ads against Crockett over the past few weeks. LinkedIn founder and Jeffrey Epstein pal Reid Hoffman was among the billionaires who bankrolled the super PAC, along with hedge fund titans Stephen Mandel and Mark Heising. In the primary, he got 823K votes of the 1.927M cast. In the run off, he got 633K out of 931K.
This is like special election turnout. TX doesn't show for the run offs anymore than anyone else does for special elections. So, in a run off, it's a different ball game for who can win b/c you'll have half as many voters as the primary, probably at best. And those voters will be older, whiter, and more female...b/c women vote more than men.

That Crockett ad with the Trump voice over does seem stupid... however, with all the TDS on the Dem side it's possible it was an effective ad for the democratic primary. Herrera and Gonzalez is going to be the more interesting runoff. Gonzalez snuck by Herrera by a few hundred votes in 2024 but with the worsening crisis for Gonzalez in DC over ethics complaint is probably going to be the tiebreaker in the runoff.

I saw the Unsub Podcast show up here in Boston back in December. The show was hilarious, and the theater was packed. In MA. Great time. And, holy carp, was the crowd drunk.
So, hope he gets in. He got like 43% to the incumbent's 40% and last time he lost by only a few hundred votes. that was before Gonzales' mistress set herself on fire. Literally.

But you neglect Cornyn's baggage which is his past votes and positions. The guy is a walking talking example of a Mitch McConnell republican and runoff electorates almost always are more partisan activists walk over broken glass than the more normie primary voters. From past research, figure about 20-30 percent dropoff in turnout, maybe as high as 50 percent. Turnout drops the longer the runoff is from the primary and Texas has a long almost two month period from primary to runoff. May 26th is the date.
I think Paxton wins narrowly depending on how he campaigns in the next 7 weeks or so.
