The Morning Rant: Marco Rubio Is A Star, And He Isn't The Only One In The Cabinet!

punk-monkey.jpg

Our current Secretary of State may be the most consequential one in the last 50 years. Marco Rubio is teaching a master class in how to be a statesman, a diplomat, and a powerful and unapologetic defender of the president's policies.

And as JD Vance dabbles in partisan politics, and perhaps even flirts with the lunatic faux-right, Marco Rubio is cementing his position as an indispensable part of President Trump's administration, and perhaps a rising star for the 2028 Republican Presidential nomination.

Here is Marco Rubio's press conference on March 2nd, 2026, which has been butchered by the mainstream media to make the administration sound as if it is flailing. But a full listen will reveal a perfectly prepared presentation of the rationale behind our preemptive strikes against the Iranian theocratic maniacs.

Secretary Rubio has full command of the facts, and presents exactly the correct tone of deference to the President without sounding like an apparatchik. There is no parallel foreign policy being conducted on the sly...he is a proud American, a proud member of the Trump administration, and gives the impression that he is 100% on board with the President's goals.

It is a testament to President Trump's resolve to be a different president than in his first term; he has chosen a far more impressive cabinet, with a few bona fide stars. Rubio, Scott Bessent at Treasury, Doug Burgum at Interior, Pete Hegseth at War, Lee Zeldin at EPA, RFK Jr. at HHS, and several others who are comporting themselves well.

Sure, we can bitch and moan about a few others, in particular Bondi at Justice, but President Trump has constructed a superb cabinet without any of the political turmoil of his last administration and, more importantly, without the disloyalty that was rife among the GOPe-chosen officials.

I look forward to these people continuing their work for years, if not in the next Republican administration, then in Congress or their state houses or governor's mansions!

I think he would have loved a stronger cabinet from the start.

But the realities of confirmations put a lot of power in Mitch's hands.

Getting Mitch out of leadership and putting weathervane Thune in did a lot. Thune is willing to do the popular thing. Mitch was never going to do the popular thing unless it aligned with his pre-existing motives and desires.

Can't recall where I read this (maybe something Tulsi said?), but most of Trump's cabinet have been hanging out with each other at Mar-a-Lago for several years. Most of them, such as Tulsi and RFK jr., had been "cancelled," so that not only are they experienced in a hostile media, but have decided that they will fight for what they believe in despite them.

Trump no doubt has used the years between his first admin and his current one to truly vet his team, ensuring they will not drop him when under lawfare. Sounds like he was also team building, thus ensuring that his cabinet is not a team of strangers, but a team of friends who communicate and coordinate with each other directly.

Statements from prominent Democrats make it clear that they are planning something like January 30, 1933 in Germany - they intend to crush the opposition so throughly that there will never be a chance that they would lose power in the future.

Not a prominent Democrat, but wimp Will Stancil in Minneapolis expressed what is now conventional wisdom in the Democratic Party:

"Eventually the Trump regime will collapse, because it’s built on a single rotten, 79-year pillar. When it does, the army of cranks who have tried to shelter under the boss’s seeming impunity, in order to commit crimes of their own, will have nowhere to hide. Look up the rules on actually going into recess.

It requires a majority vote.

All it takes is 4 GOP Senators to say no. I could name 4 off the top of my head who would say no (Murk, Mitch, Collins, and Grassley). There are probably 10 more because the appointment power is pretty much the only thing the Senate does anymore.

86 I don't think any of us really understand what life is like when you enter politics... when you get elected, say to the US House, when you first show up for work you are basically going to your first day at work in a new company. We all know what that is like, first thing it to navigate your interactions with the other employees, who just happen to be experienced legislators, whereas you are a newb. So, then you have to start picking lanes, and that is the process that will ultimately define your values. I have no empirical proof to offer, but my gut is telling me Rubio has picked his lane, and it truly is MAGA.

I need to dig into the details but it is maddening how the US Navy managed to gold plate into unaffordability a proven design in the Constellation class.

Not to be outdone, Hegseth has cancelled the USAF E-7 Wedgetail which was supposed to replace the small aging fleet of E-3 AWACS. The E-7 was a design proven by the RAAF so again need to find the details on why it got chopped. The assertion that E-2 Hawkeyes can pick up the slack does not seem to pass the smell test unless they are tied into the remaining E-3s.

Yep. Israel’s greatest desire is to puppeteer America into murdering Muslims for them.

What's tragically comical here is either we intentionally targeted school children or accidentally killed school children. Both are equally terrible news.

Also, understand the number of Iranians that are now radicalized (bacause we bombed a school of young girls) and promise retribution to Americans

If the Senate won't vote for a recess, I don't know the point of focusing on the scheduling of pro-forma sessions.

The problem is that the Senate won't vote to recess, not that pro-forma sessions are held. Pro-forma sessions are a symptom, an ancillary effect, of the Senate refusing to vote to go into recess.

The U.S. Air Force (USAF) has officially terminated its E-7 Wedgetail program as part of the fiscal 2026 defense budget rollout, citing significant cost overruns—increasing from $588 million to $724 million per aircraft—and concerns about survivability in contested environments.

Despite earlier plans to replace aging E-3 Sentry AWACS aircraft with a fleet of 26 E-7s by 2032, the Pentagon announced in July 2025 that it would cancel the program in favor of space-based sensing solutions, including the proposed Golden Dome system, and additional E-2D Advanced Hawkeye aircraft.

Apparently, Congress said, "No. We're using this plane, dammit."

172 There are only three things that can happen in the Senate according to Senate rules:

1) Debate
2) Vote
3) Quorum call

If the Senate is not conducting one of these things, it is considered to be out of session and ending the Legislative Day. That's why when nobody is on the floor doing anything because they're all lazy fucks, someone will "Suggest the absence of a quorum," forcing the Clerk of the Senate to call the roll, which she/he does at a snail's pace. Like one name every few minutes slow, just to eat up the clock.

Pro Forma sessions are agreed upon by unanimous consent so as to avoid a debate/filibuster/vote on putting the Senate into recess when there isn't a wide agreement on doing so. Every three days or so they gavel in, sit there for five minutes, and gavel out.

179 Setting up a rocket launcher near a school.... sounds right on point for the Iranians.

A note about launchers; Iran has a manufacturing pool that spits out missile/rocket launchers very quickly. They're not specialized pieces of equipment like those the US (and other countries) use. They're basically commercial trucks with locally built launch equipment bolted on.

It's one reason why after days/weeks of bombing there are still hundreds of launch vehicles available for the thousands of missiles in storage.

Defanging Iran of their suicide drones, rockets and missiles is going to take a while. A long while.

189 >>Maybe she is great, but her public persona and her ability to steady the department is laughable.

I don't care that much about public persona, Obama wowed a lot of people with his public persona, but I don't know what you mean by steady the department. It's pretty obvious the DOJ/FBI was at least tied for the most corrupt department in the government. First task was to get rid of those people which in some cases included gutting entire divisions and doing it while keeping the plane in the air.

And she is up against what everyone can see is an out of control activist judiciary that is just making shit up to throw sand in the gears. Still, the DOJ has an outstanding record of actually winning cases when they get to superior courts including the Supreme Court. And unless Brennan and other conspirators are lying there is a grand jury currently hearing evidence of a decade long conspiracy against Trump in Ft. Pierce, Florida. And the FBI is putting up record numbers across the board.

By nature, these cases take time. She can't just call in a bombing raid. She might not be the best in front of the camera but the overwrought complaints are the laughable part.

Virtually all of them would point to some area on the map other than the USA -- upon which he would correct them.

It really does seem like political personalities have moments to run for president.

DeSantis' national ambitions have been steamrolled by the fact that we now have two much more prominent GOP politicians at the national stage.

His 2024 run was misguided, but it still made sense. He was probably never going to have a higher profile than that moment. It was then or never.

Would that have changed if Trump had appointed him AG, or something? I dunno, but the moment is definitely past.

Hear me out: Freedom & Affordability Czar. An interdepartmental portfolio focused on deregulation, both identifying prime candidates for regulatory recission across the Federal gov't, and identifying legal levers that can be used to incentivize the same at the state and local level. Picture a meme where bureaucrats "getting DeSantis'd" means getting nationally highlighted for their scummy work driving up living costs for working stiffs in their city or state, and it becomes something everyone wants to avoid, since recall elections and pink slips tend to follow.

I have given this some thought, and there isn't really any one single department head position that can make use of all the administrative talents that DeSantis has shown. If not that, then something like it.

340 Yeah, we piss and moan about Bondi at Justice because there aren't any indictments coming despite all those investigations. But I also bear in mind that in 2020 nobody could even get into court to challenge the conduct of that election. It was all tossed out for "lack of standing."

To make the indictments and to have them actually stick takes a lot more prep than anybody with a D after their name would need. A lot of this stuff has to be filed in DC, and so she is against an exceedingly hostile court. Every move she makes will be dismissed, and she will have to appeal it. These cases need to survive appeal, too.

Can she even build cases that even a DC court does not dare to ignore? Hell, it took five years to finally get the Supreme Court to say "the candidate has standing to challenge the conduct of an election." Five freakin' years to get even that pathetic little ruling!

Posted by: LCMS Rulz! at March 03, 2026 12:59 PM (bufu1)

341 A further thought to the above...

2028 is not guaranteed for Vance or Rubio to take the helm. If somehow the Dems grab the Presidency in 2028, their day one action will include summarily dismissing everything that Bondi built. She really only has two years to get what indictments / convictions she can. No matter what, it's not going to be satisfying -- but it will be pretty much all that could be done under our current court system.
