The Media Is Exactly Who We Thought They Were

With a few honorable exceptions.

An as-of-yet unnamed producer texted a reporter in the field to "not focus" on the Iranians celebrating the death of Khamenei. He (or, likely, she) wanted to play this as tragedy and portray the strike as a war crime.

The reporter refused and said he'd focus on the celebrations.

A CBS Austin reporter was seen on a live Facebook stream appearing to get a directive from a superior to steer away from a pro-Israel, pro-US and pro-Trump protest behind him -- and then refusing to go along with the instruction on camera.
Vinny Martorano was outside the Texas Capitol on Saturday covering dueling demonstrations in the wake of US and Israeli strikes on Iran when a crew member handed him a phone with a message from an unnamed boss.
After reading the screen, the reporter asked out loud, "What does that mean?"
An off-screen staffer answered, "It means they don't want us to focus on this."
"Well, I am," Martorano shot back, continuing his coverage.
Sinclair Broadcast Group, which owns CBS Austin, insisted Martorano had not been instructed to avoid certain perspectives.
"[S]tation management directed the crew to follow our standard protest and rally safety and coverage guidelines, remain on the perimeter, gather necessary content, complete the live shot, and move to a safe location," a Sinclair spokesperson told The Post in an email.
"There was no directive to avoid or de-emphasize any particular perspective," the spokersperson added. "The guidance was focused on safety, logistics, and ensuring comprehensive coverage in a rapidly evolving situation. The safety of our teams is top priority."
The moment was clipped down to roughly 35 seconds and quickly went viral as it got reshared by conservative social media accounts.

But overall, the media once again sided with terrorists and butchers while praising themselves as Holy.

ABC couldn't wait to report the false claim that the US (or Israel) had bombed a girls school in Iran. In fact, the school was hit by an Iranian missile whose engine had conked out.

Breaking: The regime in Iran has now admitted that the IRGC mistakenly bombed an Iranian school yesterday, killing many children.

Sadly, bad actors have exploited the death and war fog to help the Iranian regime hide this crime and avoid accountability.

We'll see if it's reflected in ratings. It won't be from me. I have not for years, and will never again watch mainstream evening television news. I sometimes tune in during the mornings for the traffic report, but rarely. Perhaps my attitude will help ensure that things never improve. I don't know. But I cannot foresee any behavior, situation or reality where I will ever trust that anything on the news is truthful or that any newsman is worthy of anything but contempt. The well is simply too poisoned, and has been for too long.

I watched the BBC News streaming channel on Dish for a few hours Saturday and Sunday morning.

Literally every hour they'd repeat the girls school bombing story with banners and by Sunday had a full package report with video of crying fathers around the bomb site repeating over & over that it was caused by an airstrike.

Meanwhile by Saturday afternoon on X people had already been posting satellite maps of the area and one photo of a rocket smoke trail going from the IRGC compound next door right into the school.

There is no way the BBC did not realize by Sunday that this was more than likely an Iranian rocket misfire but still kept on reporting it as an airstrike.

It's like watching them report on Gaza they lie so much.

Not me.

When I was in high school, I had an English teacher. Former reporter, and also run the school newspaper. On the wall in her room, she had a big blown-up copy of the famous picture of the Palestinian boy draped in the flag, winding up to hurl a rock at an Israeli soldier (soldier not pictured). It was from early in the Second Intifada. Famous picture.

Next to it was an equally blown-up picture of the reverse angle. Same boy, just from the other side. It showed a phalanx of press photographers all in position to catch the heroic moment. It was staged. The whole thing.

I asked her why she had those two pictures on her wall. She told me, "because this kind of dishonesty is why I quit to do something else."

In today's terms, she'd probably be called "based" - though I didn't realize that at the time.

Next to it was an equally blown-up picture of the reverse angle. Same boy, just from the other side. It showed a phalanx of press photographers all in position to catch the heroic moment. It was staged. The whole thing.

I asked her why she had those two pictures on her wall. She told me, "because this kind of dishonesty is why I quit to do something else."

In today's terms, she'd probably be called "based" - though I didn't realize that at the time.

Ukraine did not use any of the bombs, it was mainly artillery and MLRS with anti tank missiles. We got plenty of bombs and JDAM kits. The expensive stuff is the standoff munitions that are jam proof.

I think we even still have the laser designated bombs with that tech dating back to Vietnam

306 I grew up in Houston when we had two newspapers. We took both papers back in those days. The Houston Post was owned by the Hobby family of Houston. It was considered to be slightly liberal.
The Houston Chronicle was owned by The Houston Endowment Fund that was a legacy of the owner Jesse Jones and it was the conservative paper.
The Chronicle absorbed the Post and soon after (1987 I think) then Hearst bought the Chronicle.
It is a bullshit rag of bullshit now. Every large city in Texas has Hearst papers exclusively. They are all the same bullshit.

Okay then why didn't any of you call for an attack on Iran at any point until now? Why didn't you make a case for Trump "ending the war, not starting it" until precisely the moment when Trump did it? You and I both know that you are latching onto a talking point you never used until 45 seconds ago. You and I both know that almost every conservative influencer in the business was opposed to war with Iran until just now. And now you're trying to use justifications that stretch back decades. It doesn't make any sense. If you changed your mind, fine. Say so. Explain why. You're allowed to change your mind. I've changed my mind about things. But don't try to rewrite history. Be honest about it. There's too much at stake to play these games.
