Iranian Liberation Dance Party Goes Worldwide

Just a quick happy one to start the day. I'll put up a real post soon.


Reportedly, Trump moved up the start of the operation when the CIA managed to actually do something useful. They determined that Khamenei and his top advisors would be, inadvisedly, getting together Saturday morning for a national security meeting. Trump forwarded that information to Israel which actually hit the site.

Khameni and up to ten of his top officials were killed in that single strike. Since then most of Khamenei's family and his male successors have been killed, as well as 40 Revolutionary Guard commanders.

Update: I just heard that there were three national security meetings that morning. All three were hit.

Here are Iranians celebrating and thanking the USA (and Trump_ for their deliverance.

I just saw a factoid reported -- only 37% of Iran is actually Muslim.

I guess that's why Tousi always calls Iran "Islamic-occupied."

Weird that our Truth Telling Media never bothered to share that fact with us.

I read that study. It was ... very suspect in part because of how they collected the data. They ended up with whacky results like 25% of the surveyed people believed in genies. Yes, those kinds of genies.

I suspect there are more non-Muslims in Iran than the mullahs say there are, but nowhere near 60% of the population.

Trump was a bit unclear in his first speech after the bombs started falling. He called on the people to rise up, but he also told them to stay in their homes, because the bombs were falling. I think the Iranian people are hunkering down for a bit, and will then rise up after they get the all clear.

Closest thing was a statement against interest about a year or two ago by a Shi'a religious official who was complaining about empty mosques and fewer and fewer worshippers attending services. Iran was actually closing down mosques about like the Church of England is doing to its churches from lack of attendees.

State churches are almost always a bad idea but particularly so in a theocracy as bad outcomes in policies inevitably get blamed on the religion and religious behavior laws inevitably get blamed for make life suck. So every bad thing that happens eventually gets blamed on the theocracy and the behavior of the clerics and their bullies stealing everything in sight does make matters better.

Only so long you can blame foreign bogeymen for making the citizens' lives horrible before they realize the problem is their own government/religion oppressing them.

That was Reuters Ipsos which is consistently the worst of all media polls in results for years now and that particular polling outfit was so bad that even Fox fired them .

It will take a couple of days as most polling respondents wait and see what is happening rather than answer like an automaton.

Anything above about 5-9% is an intractable problem, depending on how devout the host population is to their own religion, and Iran's share is much much, higher than that. Even at 10% you definitely have an insoluble problem, short of killings, expulsions, and involuntary religious conversion, and all the horrors that go along with those things. And even then, the expelled will attempt new invasions, and the converted will try and rise.

If anyone thinks Iran's particularly aggressive Muslim fanatics will lay down their arms, accept a debate-based government, and submit to the will of the infidels and sinners who they once ruled, they're in for a terrible shock soon.

I think Trump is doing to China what I've been advocating for:

Containment.

Not direct confrontation, but cutting them out of the global market by cutting them off from the American market (as much as tariffs can), while ending their special relationships with oil producing partners.

Everyone else in the world is a winner, except Russia, and their loss comes out in the wash.

Sure - they lose their only Middle Eastern ally. That's bad, and I don't figure they're happy at the prospect.

But:

1.) Iran is a rabid dog, and as China could tell you, a hydrophobic ally is often a liability.

2.) China is getting the remainder of it's post-Maduro cut-rate fuels from Iran, and in the absence of that, they're gonna have to pay market rates - and the only hope they'll have of a dependable supply at any cost is from the Russians.

3.) The cherry on top is that the IRGC deposited their country's wealth in Russia against this day, but they are op in smoke, and with no depositors to collect, Russia is a little richer today.

If I'm Putin, I shrug and say "da, is ok, we move on."

That's a big statement, and I don't believe it.

Yes, many of Russia's allies - all of whom are American rivals or enemies - are toppling due to Venezuela and possibly Iran, but Russia isn't on the list as far as I can tell from an outside. Biden took care of evicting Russia from the West, and sent it running to the loving embrace of Red China. That hasn't changed.

What was Russia getting from Iran? Not much. It may no longer be able to use Iran for its MidEast policy, but Red China is arguably much worse off. It's now down *two* discount sources for oil. Other than what it can get out of Russia on favorable terms, Red China is on the open market for oil now. That strikes me as a bigger deal for it than the loss of Iran would be for Russia.

Everyone else in the world is a winner, except Russia, and their loss comes out in the wash.

Sure - they lose their only Middle Eastern ally. That's bad, and I don't figure they're happy at the prospect.

But:

1.) Iran is a rabid dog, and as China could tell you, a hydrophobic ally is often a liability.

2.) China is getting the remainder of it's post-Maduro cut-rate fuels from Iran, and in the absence of that, they're gonna have to pay market rates - and the only hope they'll have of a dependable supply at any cost is from the Russians.

3.) The cherry on top is that the IRGC deposited their country's wealth in Russia against this day, but they are op in smoke, and with no depositors to collect, Russia is a little richer today.

If I'm Putin, I shrug and say "da, is ok, we move on."
