Saturday Night Jokes and Other Funnies

A United Nations plane carrying a large number of ambassadors was flying across the Pacific Ocean to go from America to Japan, when suddenly they lost several engines. They were too far away from any land, including Hawaii. The pilot announced that after jettisoning as much as they could from the cargo bay and fuel tanks, they still needed to reduce the overall load by 600 pounds, or three people to reach the closest airport. The crew was needed to fly the plane to safety, so three of the ambassadors would have to sacrifice themselves for everyone else by jumping to their deaths in the ocean below, as there were no parachutes.

While a crew member opened the emergency door, the French ambassador stepped forward. "Vive la France!" he exclaimed as he plunged to his demise. Next, the British ambassador approached the door and said, "God save the king!", and plummeted to a watery grave. Finally, the American ambassador stood up, grabbed the Mexican ambassador and yelled, "Remember the Alamo!" and pushed him out.

A wealthy Texan commissioned an artist to paint him a mural depicting general Custer's last words at the Alamo. He gave the artist free range as to how he would arrange the mural. Weeks passed as the mural was in progress, but eventually the time came for the wealthy man to view the work.

He entered the room, full of expectation, to see a mural depicting a large blue fish with a halo atop a hoard of copulating Native Americans on the hillside below.

"What the hell is this?" the man said. "That's not what I asked for."

"Oh, but it is," said the artist. "It shows the true last sentiments and words of general Custer. I figured they'd be 'Holy Mackerel, look at all those fucking Indians!'"

Squirrel blamed for government Internet outage in Ohio county

A network outage that caused several government offices to lose phone and Internet services in an Ohio county is now being blamed on a meddlesome squirrel.

Medina County officials said the Feb. 20 outage that knocked out phone and Internet services at government facilities including the county prosecutor's office was initially thought to be caused by contractors accidentally slicing through underground fiber.

County Administrator Matt Springer revealed at last week's commissioner's meeting that the true cause has now been found to be a squirrel that built a nest inside the fiber infrastructure and chewed through multiple lines.

20 Camels Diqualified from Oman Beauty Contest for Botox Fillers and Plastic Surgery

In Arab countries like Oman, camel beauty contests are a big deal! Breeders from far and wide bring their best specimens for a chance to win the title of ‘most beautiful camel in the land,’ but in recent years, events have been plagued by scandals involving various cosmetic enhancements.

Last month, the 2026 Camel Beauty Show Festival in Al Musanaa, Omanaa, was rocked by the disqualification of 20 participants after veterinarians ruled that they had been artificially enhanced. Botox, lip fillers, silicone reshaping, and artificial hump inflation were some of the forbidden procedures discovered during the inspection.

Camel beauty contests are an important part of Arab tradition. For centuries, camel owners struggled to emphasize features like glossy coats, long, well-set necks, full lips, long eyelashes and firm humps through selective breeding and grooming, but in recent years, cosmetic enhancements have become very common.

Back in the Aughts and Teens, there were donnybrooks and Yellowstone Caldera-level eruptions weekly, sometimes daily, and lots and lots of flouncing, oh my yes. Often by The Man himself.

Not to mention accidentally duping the entire thread in one's comment field. I miss that.

What happened to us, man?

The civilians, including the Ayatollahs, have lost all control over the Revolutionary Guards. They’re gonna do whatever they feel like doing, including starting wars with every country around them.

The Missourian volunteers who marched West to help take California and wound up garrisoning Taos in time for the Taos rebellion were much the same sort of troops. Hard fighting in war, and in peace provoking the locals to rebel.

172 Kind of exciting if you're staying at the Ramada in Beirut. Evil jooos just took out 4* IRGC Quds Force big-turbans with what looks like a fairly precise strike. Two rooms appear to have been hit. Inside hallway view shows minimal disruption and walls/doors not blown out (I think).

As long as Iran remained a threat to the chokepoint of Hormuz, there would always be a risk premium. By permanently removing that risk, oil will go down and stay down once this is over.

The currrent prices are a short term inconvenience to reach a beneficial long term future.

Good casting, I admit, with Rex Harrison as Julius Caesar and Roddy McDowall as the young Octavian. There are amazing scenes. The arrival of Cleopatra's barge at Alexandria (?) makes you think that, if you were standing there in thirty-something BC, it would have looked just like that. And McDowall shines as the "callow youth" that everyone thought Octavian was, until he emerged as the survivor from the civil wars.

Long film though.

Yer making fun of Stevie Nicks again.
----

I saw Stevie Nicks live on her solo tour. If you want to watch her, she has a talented band and a couple of backup singers that can hit the notes that she no longer can.

If you're a Fleetwood Mac fan...you might want to sit this one out. For a couple of reasons.

Her band doesn't have the "touch" that Fleetwood Mac does. If one of the guitarists has the distortion pedal at 7 for a rocker, its set at 7 for a softer song as well. As a result, a LOT of the nuance that Fleetwood Mac achieved gets lost.

The bigger problem I have is her treatment of Lindsey Buckingham.

Stevie had at least a DOZEN pictures included in her background screen of...Tom Petty. Another DOZEN of Christine McVie. A half dozen of...Joe Walsh.

Lindsey Buckingham? None...by himself. A "group" Fleetwood Mac photo...with Lindsey sitting on the floor the furthest away from the photographer.

Stevie would have never sniffed Fleetwood Mac without him. But sure, just pretend he didn't mean a damn thing to your career.

Magnificent scene, and a loose recreation of something that actually happened. The first actual meeting of Antony and Cleopatra (for real, not in the movie) was when she recognized he would be useful, and she sailed a magnificent barge up to Tarsus, in Asia Minor where he was encamped with his troops. She dressed as the goddess Venus to dazzle him and everyone else there.

My other favorite scene is the procession into Rome, complete with a pyramid on wheels.

236 Born today: Chris White in 1943, bass guitarist and composer for The Zombies. The song I know best of theirs, Time Of The Season, was written by keyboardist Rod Argent; so here's a deep cut written by White, from their second album Odessey And Oracle:

The Zombies - Beechwood Park (Lyric Video)

Also, Randy Guss, drummer for Toad The Wet Sprocket, was born today in 1967. He stopped touring in 2017 and left the band in 2020, due to osteogenesis imperfecta. I can only imagine that he had some good times with friendly ladies in the meantime, though, despite his apparent stature. No deep cut, just a top-20 hit from platinum album Fear:

249 Variation of the first joke (circa 1979):

President Jimmy Carter, a priest, and a hippie are on a small plane when it develops engine trouble and starts going down. Pilot announces he's going down with the ship, but there are two parachutes in the back, so figure out the best way to divvy them out and good luck.

The hippie recommends drawing straws, but the priest rejects the idea as too close to gambling. As they discuss this, Jimmy Carter stands up, grabs a parachute and declares, "As President of the United States, I'm at least the smartest guy on this plane, therefore, I have the most to contribute the world and should survive this!" and he jumps out the door.

The priest watches him disappear into the clouds, turns to the hippie and says, "My son, I've lived a fruitful life while in this world, and I know what awaits me in the next. Take the remaining parachute and be a light to those that you encounter in your following days."

The hippie casually leans against the bulkhead and smiles at the priest: I think we'll be ok, Father. The smartest guy on this plane jumped out wearing my backpack"...

Remember, today's retail rate is based on what the price is expected to be when they refill their tanks. Retail gas is very low profit / high-volume so the retailer can lose their ass if it only goes up 5-10% when they have to refill the big tanks.
Retail goes down slow because there is no reason to lower price until the station across the road does... and then verify the price to refill.

The Convention met pursuant to adjournment. This day intelligence was received of the fall of the Alamo. The accounts state that the place was carried by assault on the morning of the 6th inst., and that the whole garrison were put to the sword. Col. Travis, Col. Bowie, and Davy Crockett are said to have fallen. The information produced a deep sensation in the Convention. The members seemed stunned by the intelligence. It is a severe blow. The enemy are represented as advancing in great force.

The country is in the utmost alarm. The roads are crowded with fugitives. Women and children are flying from their homes. The scene is distressing in the extreme. Yet amidst all this the Convention continues its deliberations. The organization of the Government proceeds. It is felt that there must be no delay. The country must have a Government.

The Dead's studio albums are pretty good. Edited so the songs are short enough for radio airplay.

401 I like how some of the cartoonists draw an ayatola / with his turban looking like a mushroom cloud

402 "I have heard them referred to as a jug band. No frigging clue what that means."

You'd be surprised.

403 Come on man, pot is everywhere now. And back when it wasn't everywhere, there was more *suspense* in a Blue Oyster Cult set than in the best Dead set.

I bet you like Yoko's singing.

404 We will not be patronizing the New Year's parade this year because the CCP-loving Chinese Chamber of Commerce made Elaine Giu the Grand Marshal.

I Do not hold making money against anyone. Get your paycheck. But if you're Chinese then be Chinese. And gtfo. Also it was completely clear that she only cares about herself and her brand. She also faked hate crimes at Stanford. She can FOAD for all I care.

405 Nah, the most hated band of that era was the Countjng fucking crowes. With that shitty, pretentious e. Fuck you guys. And fuck Mr Jones. Hope they all die in a tragic bathhouse fire.

406 Another hated one, the Jug Band Mungo Jerry.

Thats jug band. Gah.

Posted by: Aetius451AD work phone at March 08, 2026 12:27 AM (zZu0s)

407 Like a jug with 3Xs on it and a washboard? Cause I'd prefer that.

Very well could be what it means. A non serious jam for the sake of playing. I can almost see it..almost. Almost what I do at casa berserker on saturday night, but much more intense with hiher energy music. An hour of Rush, then 3 hours of metal. Its really to keep people in shape until the next project forms.

I could maybe see that. The blues influence shows up. Just can't take the 15min songs. And in my experience the dead heads hate the studio albums.

409 But HEY, POT!

Umm, for the Dead, that's "But HEY, ACID!"

410 At least Josey and the Pussycats really had jugs.
