I picked up two silencers today. I started the paperwork in early January, expecting the system to be totally overwhelmed, with a drought of silencers, after the "tax" dropped to zero dollars. I'm pleasantly surprised that my dealer has silencers in stock, and the ATF e-form system seems to have recovered.
On the way home, I stopped at a small town drive-in and had a Jumbo Wompus, a greasy double cheeseburger with a slice of deli ham, AKA "The Gentile Special." Posted by: Idaho Spudboy at February 26, 2026 07:32 PM (TR4+2) 13

Satellite images reveal how Emperor penguins could be on the pathway to extinction as shrinking sea ice is forcing the birds into crowded groups, producing distinctive brown patches that can be seen from space.
This overcrowding has led to increasingly wide ranging migrations, with penguins being spotted as far North as Greenland. Persistent penguin propaganda has misled the public about the mephitic menace, as Big Penguin spreads it's malignant flippers over the future of mankind. I already generated a dossier on [Abigail] Spanberger, but the most interesting part of it is that she is part of a cohort of 50+ military-intelligence veterans that have been recruited to run as [Democrat] candidates starting in 2018. @SomeBitchIIKnow first hypothesized this, but my new dossier pipeline independently captured them. A Democrat retires. A CIA member takes over. Spanberger is part of a much deeper, much more disturbing story here. Posted by: JackStraw at February 26, 2026 08:44 PM (viF8m) --- None of the news that you see is really breaking. Sure, there are plane crashes and stuff, but all of the revelations, investigations, sudden reveals are plotted and planned. Those brave investigative reporters are being fed by other players. They do good work sometimes, but they can't penetrate as deep as they do without inside help. So understand that the drip drip drip is deliberate, and for those screaming for convictions, understand that you have to set the table before saying grace. Trump's decision to surge ICE into Minnesota and now Michigan when it's too cold to mount mass street protests was no accident. What they found will be released on a schedule for maximum effect. I early-voted today in the Texas Republican primary. 96 elected positions, and 10 draft propositions. Wow! Took me a while to get it done. No line when I arrived at 10:40. I timed it right. After the post-breakfast retiree crowd; before the crowd voting during their lunchtime. I voted for Paxton for Senator. Cornyn is useless.

The way you phrased it indicated that the insurance was on a $300,000 home. That's what I interpreted it to mean. Depending on the features of the house and damage sustained, it could run a lot more than that.
Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Lloyd Current market value, assessed value for tax, and insurance company's estimated replacement value all different. In the article I assume it was the market value, which if new would be close to the insurance company's estimate. Got my place for about $200k, current assessed value for taxes is about $350k, insurence company makes me carry closer to $500k for replacement value for a total loss. On the positive side - they assume I can keep the land, underground utilities, and the slab on grade foundation will be reusable. Posted by: Eromero at February 26, 2026 09:14 PM (LHPAg) Couple of record freezes in the early 80s didn't help either. Posted by: Orange A Chinese citrus canker virus did it. "However, a third, more persistent outbreak began in Miami-Dade County in 1995, leading to a decade-long eradication effort. Due to widespread spread from hurricanes in 2004–2005, eradication was officially abandoned in 2006, and efforts shifted to containment and management. Currently, the entire state of Florida is under a USDA-APHIS quarantine, and movement of citrus fruit and plant material is restricted to prevent spread. The disease is now established in 24 counties across Florida, and has also been detected in Alabama (2021), Louisiana (2013), Texas (2016), South Carolina (2022), and Georgia (2022). The pathogen spreads primarily through wind-driven rain, overhead irrigation, contaminated equipment, and human movement of infected plant material. A more robust building code, and houses built to survive CAT-5 should lower insurance premiums. Should.
... Posted by: NaCly Dog Should. But they don't. They know what 'builder grade' is. They have some complex empirical formulas for adjusting insurance rates, they are mandated by law, but the insurance company can pull any number they want out of their ass to 'adjust', and they do. Or just turn you away. Posted by: Itinerant Alley Butcher at February 26, 2026 09:30 PM (/lPRQ) 186

Not teasing for months while defenses are strengthened.
Posted by: NaCly Dog at February 26, 2026 09:24 PM (u82oZ) --- Dude, they can't build trenches against 90% disapproval. When your opponent is taking a suicidally unpopular stand, you make them own it every single day. As I said, maybe there are squishes on the GOP side that need spine transplants as well, but there is no downside to letting this twist in the wind while all the fake "Country over party" candidates show their true colors and reports of ever more rampant voter fraud multiply - because we know it's only going to get worse as the investigators dig deeper. I expect Trump's guys will start running campaign ads saying "So and so thinks you're completely stupid" and then playing clips of the "Well, rural voters are dumb, and can't find their IDs, and black people never buy liquor" etc. Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H.
