Homan, who described himself as a practicing Catholic, said Church leadership should be aligned with law enforcement and the rule of law. "I'm a lifelong Catholic, a still-practicing Catholic," he added. "The Catholic faith is always in support of law enforcement -- always has been. [Pope Leo] should be too."

He also invited the Pope to allow unlimited immigration into Vatican City and see how that works out for them: "If we jumped the wall at the Vatican, penalties are MUCH harder than in America." Video here.

Vice President JD Vance announced Wednesday that the Trump administration is temporarily halting portions of federal Medicaid funding to Minnesota, delivering a blunt warning that the state must prove it can safeguard taxpayer dollars before the money starts flowing again.
Standing alongside Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Administrator Mehmet Oz, Vance said the administration is preparing to move "very aggressively" against individuals and organizations accused of exploiting Medicare and Medicaid programs.
"We're announcing today that we have decided to temporarily halt certain amounts of Medicaid funding that are going to the state of Minnesota," Vance said, arguing the pause is necessary "to ensure that the state of Minnesota takes its obligation seriously to be good stewards of the American people's tax money."
Oz confirmed that roughly $259 million in Medicaid payments to the state would be deferred.
Vance emphasized that health care providers in Minnesota have already been paid and that reimbursements to doctors and hospitals are not being cut off. Instead, the administration is suspending federal payments directed to the state government itself until officials demonstrate concrete steps to root out fraud and tighten oversight.
The vice president pointed to what he described as particularly egregious abuse inside a program designed to provide after-school services to autistic children.
"A program that existed to ensure that autistic children had access to some after-school services has made a number of people rich," Vance said, alleging that fraudsters set up sham businesses and even claimed services for individuals who were not autistic in order to siphon federal funds.

Other states -- including California, Massachusetts, and Maine -- face similar problems, he said, framing the issue as part of a broader culture of fraud that flourished under weak enforcement and open-border policies.
"This is the kind of corruption that shreds the fabric of a nation," Trump declared, warning that the consequences don't stay confined to balance sheets. He argued that unchecked fraud and mass immigration drive up medical bills, insurance premiums, rent, taxes, and crime -- costs that land squarely on working Americans.
In one of the night's defining moments, Trump announced a formal federal "war on fraud," naming Vice President JD Vance to lead the charge. Though the administration began targeting waste months ago, Trump said the effort is now entering a more aggressive phase. The scale of abuse already uncovered, he claimed, is so vast that fully eliminating it could move the federal government to a balanced budget with stunning speed.
Democrats erupted when Trump referred to "Somali pirates" who "ransacked Minnesota," language that immediately drew outrage from Omar. Omar shouted "liar" from her seat as the president continued speaking -- a moment that crystallized the partisan divide over immigration, oversight, and accountability.

I don't know if I can take credit, but I began calling them "Somali pirates" before I saw anyone else doing so.

I tend to think a more accurate description would be the "Somali Gypsies". First, the Gypsies (Romani) are nomadic. They have an origin (probably), but disperse themselves all over the globe (you will find them in little pickets everywhere). AND, you will find the same issues at each location (Sweden being on of the latest to realize a "Somali" school system had misappropriated millions right out of the country). I didn't try to find out exactly what sent those cops to the hospital, so I don't know if they were struck by well aimed ice balls, or fell down or what. From the snippets it sounds like the cops had to retreat and then the city used the cameras to ID some thugs for later arrest.

IIRC, MacArthur ordered all planes up for an expected Japanese attack at dawn. The Japanese attack was delayed by fog (I'm working from memory here) or some other reason, and by the time they showed up over Clark Field and the other USAAC bases, the US planes were being refueled. Of course, there were no radar nets operating in the PI and even coastal observation posts would have been of little use for detecting Japanese AF units based in Indochina and flying over water.

196 I just woke from a very rare 2hr nap. Had some benign things zapped off my face & the dermatology esthetician went very wild for perfection. I was a complete idiot (which is also rare) & did not use the numbing cream to numb my entire face.

I endured pain for my craft, which I still haven't found. Whoa. High tolerance for pain but after the 30min mark I was very close to saying enough. Being tough I do not show pain, so it was exhausting.

That said, I could no more roll into a Goodyear Tire place for a tire silicone butt lift that wear a jetpack on the Interstate.

I once saw a woman in TJ Maxx in FL & felt sorry for her as her face was so severely burned and oozing. Thought, "Bless her heart." She was having a ball & foreign. Women would fly in from wherever for plastic surgery.

It is one thing to go through a windshield & need plastic surgery. Another to look like a burn victim & appear in public as it was revolting. I think it was from a CO2 laser. Or she was dragged under a car on asphalt.

I look like I have chickenpox & will not venture out of my cave for days. Maybe if my grands want to come mock me, that's fine. At least I don't look like my entire face is falling off.

I hate to tell you but one of the reasons that laws, codes, regulations, are poorly written here is that it is a craft and writing statutes is seldom taught at law schools and certainly not a required ABA core class. The mythos of the US law emphasizes case study so the students presumably learn how to write statutes by reading of cases where it is applied.

Turns out it is a piss poor method to teach students. Euroland, because of civil law depends a lot more on teaching students how to craft statutes, codes, etc.

Our law students are taught common law applications via caselaw to statutory law instead.

And fwiw, no law school teaches writing judicial opinions either except as a special course on occasion. Last I checked, Judge Aldisert's textbook was about the only formal text out there on doing so.

And much of our Congressional law is now crafted by outside interests and presented to Congress critters to sponsor. They have become PR flacks for the laws they propose rather than they or their staffs actually writing the laws.
