The Dems are enslaved by the primary system. Their base is completely unhinged, which means that only radicals can win the nomination, making them completely toxic in the general.

For people of a certain age, this was a huge problem for them in the 1980s. That's how Reagan destroyed Mondale and an otherwise pathetic H.W. Bush could dominate Dukakis.

That rout convinced Dems that the GOP was a shoo-in, especially with Bushs 92% approval rating, so Clinton was viewed as a long shot because the heavy hitters sat the election out, biding their time until 1996. But Bush had broken his promise on taxes, and Perot was hammering him on trade. And that's how we got where we are.

They can't commit to *anything.* They go in with locked arms to sit and sulk through the whole thing, and then the Party HQ blast goes out and they turn on their heels.

Not one of them is sincere about anything and there's not an independent thought among them. At least "our side" has a handful of actual people in it. Say what you will about Rand Paul, for example, he is at least reasonably consistent.

I think it did. We have the original letter, and it contained updated intel from the rider sent to carry the message.

And the Mexicans did pay, on April 21 at San Jacinto.
